    Process of social integration: the key to making enterprise systems-enabled change

    Most previous enterprise systems (ES) studies focus on the ES implementation issues or critical success factors without taking into consideration that complex relationship of reciprocal causality between technology and human factors would cause the failure of ES to meet organizational expectations or deliverance of values promised. In this study, we try to understand the concept of social integration (SI) through exploring the use of ES in supporting organizational daily operations. In our in-depth case study of Talam, 40 interviews were collected from a company with ten years of experience in the management and application of ES. We have successfully identified six social integration processes and three social integration mechanisms that help to explain the interrelationship of the dynamic nature of social integration

    Lattice Boltzmann modeling of dendritic growth in forced and natural convection

    AbstractA two-dimensional (2D) coupled model is developed for the simulation of dendritic growth during alloy solidification in the presence of forced and natural convection. Instead of conventional continuum-based Navier–Stokes (NS) solvers, the present model adopts a kinetic-based lattice Boltzmann method (LBM), which describes flow dynamics by the evolution of distribution functions of moving pseudo-particles, for the numerical computations of flow dynamics as well as thermal and solutal transport. The dendritic growth is modeled using a solutal equilibrium approach previously proposed by Zhu and Stefanescu (ZS), in which the evolution of the solid/liquid interface is driven by the difference between the local equilibrium composition and the local actual liquid composition. The local equilibrium composition is calculated from the local temperature and curvature. The local temperature and actual liquid composition, controlled by both diffusion and convection, are obtained by solving the LB equations using the lattice Bhatnagar–Gross–Krook (LBGK) scheme. Detailed model validation is performed by comparing the simulations with analytical predictions, which demonstrates the quantitative capability of the proposed model. Furthermore, the convective dendritic growth features predicted by the present model are compared with those obtained from the Zhu–Stefanescu and Navier–Stokes (ZS–NS) model, in which the fluid flow is calculated using an NS solver. It is found that the evolution of the solid fraction of dendritic growth calculated by both models coincides well. However, the present model has the significant advantages of numerical stability and computational efficiency for the simulation of dendritic growth with melt convection

    Partially spin polarized quantum Hall effect in the filling factor range 1/3 < nu < 2/5

    The residual interaction between composite fermions (CFs) can express itself through higher order fractional Hall effect. With the help of diagonalization in a truncated composite fermion basis of low-energy many-body states, we predict that quantum Hall effect with partial spin polarization is possible at several fractions between Μ=1/3\nu=1/3 and Μ=2/5\nu=2/5. The estimated excitation gaps are approximately two orders of magnitude smaller than the gap at Μ=1/3\nu=1/3, confirming that the inter-CF interaction is extremely weak in higher CF levels.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figure

    Fermion Chern Simons Theory of Hierarchical Fractional Quantum Hall States

    We present an effective Chern-Simons theory for the bulk fully polarized fractional quantum Hall (FQH) hierarchical states constructed as daughters of general states of the Jain series, {\it i. e.} as FQH states of the quasi-particles or quasi-holes of Jain states. We discuss the stability of these new states and present two reasonable stability criteria. We discuss the theory of their edge states which follows naturally from this bulk theory. We construct the operators that create elementary excitations, and discuss the scaling behavior of the tunneling conductance in different situations. Under the assumption that the edge states of these fully polarized hierarchical states are unreconstructed and unresolved, we find that the differential conductance GG for tunneling of electrons from a Fermi liquid into {\em any} hierarchical Jain FQH states has the scaling behavior G∌VαG\sim V^\alpha with the universal exponent α=1/Îœ\alpha=1/\nu, where Îœ\nu is the filling fraction of the hierarchical state. Finally, we explore alternative ways of constructing FQH states with the same filling fractions as partially polarized states, and conclude that this is not possible within our approach.Comment: 10 pages, 50 references, no figures; formerly known as "Composite Fermions: The Next Generation(s)" (title changed by the PRB thought police).     Flexible Near-Field Wireless Optoelectronics as Subdermal Implants for Broad Applications in Optogenetics

    In vivo optogenetics provides unique, powerful capabilities in the dissection of neural circuits implicated in neuropsychiatric disorders. Conventional hardware for such studies, however, physically tethers the experimental animal to an external light source, limiting the range of possible experiments. Emerging wireless options offer important capabilities that avoid some of these limitations, but the current size, bulk, weight, and wireless area of coverage is often disadvantageous. Here, we present a simple but powerful setup based on wireless, near-field power transfer and miniaturized, thin, flexible optoelectronic implants, for complete optical control in a variety of behavioral paradigms. The devices combine subdermal magnetic coil antennas connected to microscale, injectable light-emitting diodes (LEDs), with the ability to operate at wavelengths ranging from UV to blue, green-yellow, and red. An external loop antenna allows robust, straightforward application in a multitude of behavioral apparatuses.     Facile Synthesis of ZnO Nanorods by Microwave Irradiation of Zinc–Hydrazine Hydrate Complex

    ZnO nanorods have been successfully synthesized by a simple microwave-assisted solution phase approach. Hydrazine hydrate has been used as a mineralizer instead of sodium hydroxide. XRD and FESEM have been used to characterize the product. The FESEM images show that the diameter of the nanorods fall in the range of about 25–75 nm and length in the range of 500–1,500 nm with an aspect ratio of about 20–50. UV–VIS and photoluminescence spectra of the nanorods in solution have been taken to study their optical properties. A mechanism for microwave synthesis of the ZnO nanorods using hydrazine hydrate precursor has also been proposed

    Qualidade de Vida e Atitudes dos Idosos Face Ă  Velhice

    A problemĂĄtica do envelhecimento tem assumido, nos Ășltimos anos, uma crescente importĂąncia na consciĂȘncia coletiva da população, tornando-se cada vez mais importante compreender a população idosa e a sua realidade. Posto isto, foi realizado um estudo quantitativo e correlacional, que teve como objectivo avaliar a qualidade de vida e atitudes face Ă  velhice de idosos, bem como a relação entre estas e as variĂĄveis sociodemogrĂĄficas e familiares. Foram inquiridos 100 idosos, com mais de 65 anos e sem deficit cognitivo . Para a recolha de dados utilizou-se uma entrevista estruturada, constituĂ­da dados sĂłciodemogrĂĄficos do idoso, WHOQOL-AGE (Caballero, Miret, Power, Chatterji, Tobiasz-Adamczyk, Koskinen, Leonardi, Olaya, Haro &Ayuso-Mateos, 2013) e o AAQ ( Laidlaw, Power, Schmidt and the WHOQOL-OLD Group, 2007). Dos resultados destacamos os seguintes: A amostra Ă© constituĂ­da por 52% de idosos do sexo masculino tendo uma mĂ©dia de idades de 74,7 (DP=6,8). È no fator Perdas Psicossociais e no Desenvolvimento PsicolĂłgico que os idosos tĂȘm uma melhor atitude face ao envelhecimento. É no item “Tem dinheiro suficiente para satisfazer as suas necessidades?” que os idosos apresentam uma menor qualidade de vida. NĂŁo ter doença diagnosticada e ser do sexo masculino permitem ter melhores atitudes face ao envelhecimento. A Qualidade de Vida estĂĄ relacionada com a idade, com o estado de saĂșde e com a intensidade de preocupação da famĂ­lia. Constatou-se que os idosos que nĂŁo estĂŁo institucionalizados apresentam uma melhor qualidade de vida e uma melhor atitude face Ă  velhice. Quem nĂŁo precisa de ajudas tĂ©cnicas para se movimentar apresenta uma melhor qualidade de vida. Diferenças nas atitudes face ao envelhecimento consoante a residĂȘncia onde habita sĂŁo significativas nas mudanças fĂ­sicas e no desenvolvimento psicolĂłgico sendo que os idosos que nĂŁo vivem em lares tĂȘm uma atitude mais positiva em ambos os fatores. / Over the past few years the issue of aging has played a growing importance in the population`s collective consciousness becoming increasingly important to understand the elderly population and this reality. Therefore a quantitative correlational study was performed to assess the quality of life of seniors and their attitudes towards old age, and the relationship between these and the socio-demographic and family factors. 100 seniors with more than 65 years and without cognitive deficit were surveyed. For data collection we used a structured interview consisting of sociodemographic data of the elderly, WHOQOL-AGE (Caballero Miret Power Chatterji Tobiasz-Adamczyk Koskinen Leonardi Olaya Ayuso-Mateos & Haro 2013) and AAQ (Laidlaw Power Schmidt and the WHOQOL-OLD Group 2007). We highlight: The sample is composed of 52% of males with a mean age of 74.7 (SD = 6.8). It is in the factor Psychosocial Losses and Psychological Development that elderly people have a better attitude towards aging. It is in the item "Do you have enough money to meet your needs?" that seniors show less quality of life. Not having illness and being male allows having better attitudes towards aging. Quality of Life is related to age, health condition and the intensity of family concerns. It was observed that the elderly who are not institutionalized have a better quality of life and a better attitude towards old age. Who does not need assistive devices to move around has a better quality of life. Differences in attitudes towards aging, according to residency, are significant in physical changes and psychological development, thus verifying that elderly who do not live in nursing homes have a more positive attitude in both factors

    Measurement of the Bottom-Strange Meson Mixing Phase in the Full CDF Data Set

    We report a measurement of the bottom-strange meson mixing phase \beta_s using the time evolution of B0_s -> J/\psi (->\mu+\mu-) \phi (-> K+ K-) decays in which the quark-flavor content of the bottom-strange meson is identified at production. This measurement uses the full data set of proton-antiproton collisions at sqrt(s)= 1.96 TeV collected by the Collider Detector experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron, corresponding to 9.6 fb-1 of integrated luminosity. We report confidence regions in the two-dimensional space of \beta_s and the B0_s decay-width difference \Delta\Gamma_s, and measure \beta_s in [-\pi/2, -1.51] U [-0.06, 0.30] U [1.26, \pi/2] at the 68% confidence level, in agreement with the standard model expectation. Assuming the standard model value of \beta_s, we also determine \Delta\Gamma_s = 0.068 +- 0.026 (stat) +- 0.009 (syst) ps-1 and the mean B0_s lifetime, \tau_s = 1.528 +- 0.019 (stat) +- 0.009 (syst) ps, which are consistent and competitive with determinations by other experiments.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures, Phys.     Measurement of the polarisation of W bosons produced with large transverse momentum in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV with the ATLAS experiment

    This paper describes an analysis of the angular distribution of W->enu and W->munu decays, using data from pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC in 2010, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 35 pb^-1. Using the decay lepton transverse momentum and the missing transverse energy, the W decay angular distribution projected onto the transverse plane is obtained and analysed in terms of helicity fractions f0, fL and fR over two ranges of W transverse momentum (ptw): 35 < ptw < 50 GeV and ptw > 50 GeV. Good agreement is found with theoretical predictions. For ptw > 50 GeV, the values of f0 and fL-fR, averaged over charge and lepton flavour, are measured to be : f0 = 0.127 +/- 0.030 +/- 0.108 and fL-fR = 0.252 +/- 0.017 +/- 0.030, where the first uncertainties are statistical, and the second include all systematic effects.Comment: 19 pages plus author list (34 pages total), 9 figures, 11 tables, revised author list, matches European Journal of Physics C versio

    Observation of a new chi_b state in radiative transitions to Upsilon(1S) and Upsilon(2S) at ATLAS

    The chi_b(nP) quarkonium states are produced in proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV and recorded by the ATLAS detector. Using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.4 fb^-1, these states are reconstructed through their radiative decays to Upsilon(1S,2S) with Upsilon->mu+mu-. In addition to the mass peaks corresponding to the decay modes chi_b(1P,2P)->Upsilon(1S)gamma, a new structure centered at a mass of 10.530+/-0.005 (stat.)+/-0.009 (syst.) GeV is also observed, in both the Upsilon(1S)gamma and Upsilon(2S)gamma decay modes.
