In the past ten years the Mentoring has proved itself as a wide-applied method of support in the career of people with disabilities. A good example of successfully held Mentoring programme in Europe is the “Equal Employment Opportunities: Mentoring and Training for Disabled People and Employers” Project. It is a transnational initiative supported by the “Leonardo da Vinci” Programme of the European Commission. The project includes 3 European countries: Bulgaria, Greece and the UK. Linking factual and procedural knowledge in solving science problems: A case study in a thermodynamics course

Well-specified problems of the type presented boxed in the introduction to this article are extremely common in science courses. Unfortunately, this does not mean that students find them easy to solve, even when a teacher provides model answers to problems which differ only marginally (in the teacher's eyes) from those put before the students. The central difficulty with such courses is that they do not embody instructional principles that reflect students' need for “direction” in problem solving. In this article, we describe how the necessary heuristics and strategic knowledge were built into the remake of a conventional thermodynamics course. In contrast to mainstream American work on learning problem solving we chose to direct our curriculum reconstruction using the Gal'perin theory of stage-by-stage formation of mental actions and Landa's description of the “through” systematization of knowledge. As indicated by both, we first developed an integrated system of instructional objectives: a programme of actions and methods (PAM) to solve problems in thermodynamics. Then the plan of instruction was designed. This plan indicates which instructional procedures and materials should be used to realize the instructional functions, derived from the learning theory. The evaluation design contained two control and three experimental courses. The missing link – the role of primary care in global health

This chapter provides an overview of the role of primary care in the context of global health. Universal health coverage is a key priority for WHO and its member states, and provision of accessible and safe primary care is recognised as essential to meet this important international policy goal. Nevertheless, more than three decades after Alma Ata, the provision of primary health care remains inadequate, indicating that primary care has not received the priority it deserves, in many parts of the world. This is despite the proven health benefits that result from access to comprehensive primary health care. We highlight some examples of good practice and discuss the relevance of primary care in the context of health equity and cost-effectiveness. Challenges that influence the success of primary care include the availability of a qualified workforce, financing and system design and quality assurance and patient safety

Kyak was engaged by the RCMP to assist many patrols out of Pond Inlet during the early 1940s. Members of the RCMP who had the good fortune to travel with Kyak recognized his sense of justice and protection. His dedication to duty led eventually to his engagement as a Special Constable in September 1943. Being an ardent seaman, he patrolled hundreds of miles of Baffin and Ellesmere island coastline. Kyak realized the potential of the site for the existing community of Grise Fiord and was instrumental in its selection. ... La décomposition chimique et isotopique d'un hydrogramme de crue d'un petit torrent méditerranéen (Cannone, Corse, France), a été tentée dans un cas simple, en confrontant les résultats des deux méthodes et en discutant leurs limites. L'outil isotopique permet de bien différencier l'eau préexistante et l'eau nouvelle. L'analyse de la variation des éléments chimiques met en évidence la participation d'eau du soi, sans qu'il soit possible de quantifier sa contribution; elle démontre que la composition de la pluie n'est pas conservative; le rôle du pluviolessivage est mis en évidence, conjointement à celui du transfert dans la zone non-saturée. Ainsi les décompositions chimiques des hydrogrammes (en particulier celles réalisées avec la conductivité) reposent le plus souvent sur des approximations théoriquement contestables et conduisent à des erreurs notables, à l'exception toutefois de celles réalisées avec la silice.Problems of environmental water quality such as transfer of pollutants and ecosystem acidification call for a new insight to the path and the contact time of water in the different subsurface reservoirs. An isotopic and chemical hydrograph separation is carried out for a flood in a small upland watershed in the Mediterranean region (Cannone, Corsica Island, France) with special attention to a comparison between the two methods and discussion of their limits. Here, old and new water are clearly distinguished by isotopic composition. The pattern of the dissolved constituents of stream water shows the contribution of ground water, often assumed to be negligible. The non-conservative behaviour of rain-water chemistry during its path to the stream channel due to enrichment by throughfall and leaching of soils, is the main obstacle to chemical separation. Chemical separation, especially through specific conductance seems generally to be hazardous, except perhaps for dissolved silica. Checking the variation of all dissolved constituents would prevent questionable approximations
