The following work proposes the analysis of the author's creative process, from the execution of an authorial audiovisual project, consummated to complete the graduation of Theater Interpretation at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). The research object in question is the short film Oculto (internship work in Theatrical Interpretation of the author), fulfilled together with the artist Túlio Fernandes, in the city of Tubarão/SC, during remote classes in the pandemic. Throughout the chapters, the author discusses the main references that supported the rehearsals and improvisations, founded the creation of dramaturgy and helped to accomplish a performance in a register that encompassed the atmosphere of the work. The film amalgamates realistic aspects in the interpretation and absurdities in the dramaturgy, mixing the theatrical and audiovisual language, both fields of work of the actress, who talks about the difficulties and progresses during the process
Reinforcement Learning for Joint Design and Control of Battery-PV Systems
The decentralisation and unpredictability of new renewable energy sources
require rethinking our energy system. Data-driven approaches, such as
reinforcement learning (RL), have emerged as new control strategies for
operating these systems, but they have not yet been applied to system design.
This paper aims to bridge this gap by studying the use of an RL-based method
for joint design and control of a real-world PV and battery system. The design
problem is first formulated as a mixed-integer linear programming problem
(MILP). The optimal MILP solution is then used to evaluate the performance of
an RL agent trained in a surrogate environment designed for applying an
existing data-driven algorithm. The main difference between the two models lies
in their optimization approaches: while MILP finds a solution that minimizes
the total costs for a one-year operation given the deterministic historical
data, RL is a stochastic method that searches for an optimal strategy over one
week of data on expectation over all weeks in the historical dataset. Both
methods were applied on a toy example using one-week data and on a case study
using one-year data. In both cases, models were found to converge to similar
control solutions, but their investment decisions differed. Overall, these
outcomes are an initial step illustrating benefits and challenges of using RL
for the joint design and control of energy systems
Los curiosos impertinentes
Guillén de Castro tomó para su obra El curioso irnpertinente un tema que, para la novela que intercala en el Quijote, ya había tomado Cervantes bien de Crotalón de Villalón o del Orlando furioso de Ariosto
Test of candidate light distributors for the muon (g2) laser calibration system
The new muon (g-2) experiment E989 at Fermilab will be equipped with a laser
calibration system for all the 1296 channels of the calorimeters. An
integrating sphere and an alternative system based on an engineered diffuser
have been considered as possible light distributors for the experiment. We
present here a detailed comparison of the two based on temporal response,
spatial uniformity, transmittance and time stability.Comment: accepted to Nucl.Instrum.Meth.
Design and construction of new central and forward muon counters for CDF II
New scintillation counters have been designed and constructed for the CDF
upgrade in order to complete the muon coverage of the central CDF detector, and
to extend this coverage to larger pseudorapidity. A novel light collection
technique using wavelength shifting fibers, together with high quality
polystyrene-based scintillator resulted in compact counters with good and
stable light collection efficiency over lengths extending up to 320 cm. Their
design and construction is described and results of their initial performance
are reported.Comment: 20 pages, 15 figure
Produção De Biomassa E Conteúdo De Fenóis E Flavonoides De Schinus Terebinthifolius Cultivada Em Fileira Simples E Dupla Com Cama De Frango
The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of the addition of poultry litter on growth, biomass yield, flavonoid and phenol content, and antioxidant activity in leaves of pink pepper. The experiment was carried out at the Federal University of Grande Dourados, in Dourados, Mato Grosso do Sul state, from October 2009 to May 2010. Pink pepper was grown in single or double row in soil with incorporated poultry litter at doses of 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 t ha-1. Treatments were arranged as 2 x 5 factorial in a randomized block design with four replications. There was a significant interaction between the doses of poultry litter and evaluation times for plant height and chlorophyll content. A linear increase in leaf area, fresh and dry weight of leaves and diameter of main stems with increasing doses of poultry litter was observed. Plants grown in single row showed higher fresh weight of stem with increasing doses of poultry litter. Poultry litter at 15 and 20 t ha-1 promoted an increase in flavonoid and phenolic contents in the leaves. No significant effect on the antioxidant activity was observed by the chemical method using DPPH. Therefore, it is recommended the cultivation of pink pepper plants with double row and 20 t ha-1 of poultry litter to higher growth, biomass yield, and flavonoid and phenol content. © 2016, Universidade Federal de Santa Maria. IRST SiPM characterizations and application studies
This paper reports on work undertaken, in collaboration with ITC-IRST at Trento, to characterize and test the silicon photomultiplers produced by them, with a view to their future application in high energy and astrophysics experiments. Results of static and dynamic measurents with various IRST devices under controlled climatic conditions, together with measurements with SiPMs from other distributors are reported and discussed with emphasis on progress in the understanding of operational principles and the reduction of noise. Results from the test beam application of the SiPMs are also reported and future plans are discusse
Determination of the Jet Energy Scale at the Collider Detector at Fermilab
A precise determination of the energy scale of jets at the Collider Detector
at Fermilab at the Tevatron collider is described. Jets are used in
many analyses to estimate the energies of partons resulting from the underlying
physics process. Several correction factors are developed to estimate the
original parton energy from the observed jet energy in the calorimeter. The jet
energy response is compared between data and Monte Carlo simulation for various
physics processes, and systematic uncertainties on the jet energy scale are
determined. For jets with transverse momenta above 50 GeV the jet energy scale
is determined with a 3% systematic uncertainty
