Directed Multicut with linearly ordered terminals
Motivated by an application in network security, we investigate the following
"linear" case of Directed Mutlicut. Let be a directed graph which includes
some distinguished vertices . What is the size of the
smallest edge cut which eliminates all paths from to for all ? We show that this problem is fixed-parameter tractable when parametrized in
the cutset size via an algorithm running in time.Comment: 12 pages, 1 figur
Payments by a Cash Basis Federal Savings and Loan Association to the FSLIC: Are They Deductible
The author is an attorney in a Kansas City, Missouri law firm. His topic is the deductibility for federal income tax purposes of certain premium payments made by federally chartered savings and loan associations to the Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corporation (FSLIC). Recently his firm was successful in establishing this point before a federal district court, and more recently the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, re- versing the Tax Court, reached a similar conclusion involving a savings and loan institution chartered under the laws of the state of California. In this article the author urges the correctness of the result in these recent cases while arguing against the reasoning of a published ruling of the Internal Revenue Service which reaches a different conclusion

On Continuity: Rush Rhees on Outer and InnerSurfaces of Bodies
This article presents an edited excerpt from a hitherto unknown fragmentary treatise by Rush Rhees. In the treatise, Rhees gives his account of the problem of continuity that he had started elaborating before he became acquainted with Wittgenstein. The excerpt, which contains Rhees' original distinction between outer and inner surfaces of bodies, builds on Brentano's theory of the continuum and his doctrine of plerosis. This treatment of continuity sheds light on Rhees' early philosophical development and confirms that even though he and Wittgenstein discussed the problem of continuity, Rhees' own approach remained distinct from that of Wittgenstein.publishedVersio
