Generalized Transformation for Decorated Spin Models
The paper discusses the transformation of decorated Ising models into an
effective \textit{undecorated} spin models, using the most general Hamiltonian
for interacting Ising models including a long range and high order
interactions. The inverse of a Vandermonde matrix with equidistant nodes
is used to obtain an analytical expression of the transformation. This
kind of transformation is very useful to obtain the partition function of
decorated systems. The method presented by Fisher is also extended, in order to
obtain the correlation functions of the decorated Ising models transforming
into an effective undecorated Ising models. We apply this transformation to a
particular mixed spin-(1/2,1) and (1/2,2) square lattice with only nearest site
interaction. This model could be transformed into an effective uniform spin-
square lattice with nearest and next-nearest interaction, furthermore the
effective Hamiltonian also include combinations of three-body and four-body
interactions, particularly we considered spin 1 and 2.Comment: 16 pages, 4 figure
The number of eigenstates: counting function and heat kernel
The main aim of this paper is twofold: (1) revealing a relation between the
counting function N(lambda) (the number of the eigenstates with eigenvalue
smaller than a given number) and the heat kernel K(t), which is still an open
problem in mathematics, and (2) introducing an approach for the calculation of
N(lambda), for there is no effective method for calculating N(lambda) beyond
leading order. We suggest a new expression of N(lambda) which is more suitable
for practical calculations. A renormalization procedure is constructed for
removing the divergences which appear when obtaining N(lambda) from a
nonuniformly convergent expansion of K(t). We calculate N(lambda) for
D-dimensional boxes, three-dimensional balls, and two-dimensional
multiply-connected irregular regions. By the Gauss-Bonnet theorem, we
generalize the simply-connected heat kernel to the multiply-connected case;
this result proves Kac's conjecture on the two-dimensional multiply-connected
heat kernel. The approaches for calculating eigenvalue spectra and state
densities from N(lambda) are introduced.Comment: 17 pages, 1 figure. v2: Equivalent forms of Eqs. (4.8) and (9.2) are

Strange particle production in proton-proton collisions at TeV with ALICE at the LHC
The production of mesons containing strange quarks (K, ) and both
singly and doubly strange baryons (, Anti-, and
+Anti-) are measured at central rapidity in pp collisions at
= 0.9 TeV with the ALICE experiment at the LHC. The results are
obtained from the analysis of about 250 k minimum bias events recorded in 2009.
Measurements of yields (dN/dy) and transverse momentum spectra at central
rapidities for inelastic pp collisions are presented. For mesons, we report
yields () of 0.184 0.002 stat. 0.006 syst. for K and
0.021 0.004 stat. 0.003 syst. for . For baryons, we find
= 0.048 0.001 stat. 0.004 syst. for , 0.047
0.002 stat. 0.005 syst. for Anti- and 0.0101 0.0020 stat.
0.0009 syst. for +Anti-. The results are also compared with
predictions for identified particle spectra from QCD-inspired models and
provide a baseline for comparisons with both future pp measurements at higher
energies and heavy-ion collisions.Comment: 33 pages, 21 captioned figures, 10 tables, authors from page 28,

Measurement of the Bottom-Strange Meson Mixing Phase in the Full CDF Data Set
We report a measurement of the bottom-strange meson mixing phase \beta_s
using the time evolution of B0_s -> J/\psi (->\mu+\mu-) \phi (-> K+ K-) decays
in which the quark-flavor content of the bottom-strange meson is identified at
production. This measurement uses the full data set of proton-antiproton
collisions at sqrt(s)= 1.96 TeV collected by the Collider Detector experiment
at the Fermilab Tevatron, corresponding to 9.6 fb-1 of integrated luminosity.
We report confidence regions in the two-dimensional space of \beta_s and the
B0_s decay-width difference \Delta\Gamma_s, and measure \beta_s in [-\pi/2,
-1.51] U [-0.06, 0.30] U [1.26, \pi/2] at the 68% confidence level, in
agreement with the standard model expectation. Assuming the standard model
value of \beta_s, we also determine \Delta\Gamma_s = 0.068 +- 0.026 (stat) +-
0.009 (syst) ps-1 and the mean B0_s lifetime, \tau_s = 1.528 +- 0.019 (stat) +-
0.009 (syst) ps, which are consistent and competitive with determinations by
other experiments.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures, Phys. Rev. Lett 109, 171802 (2012
Suppression of charged particle production at large transverse momentum in central Pb-Pb collisions at TeV
Inclusive transverse momentum spectra of primary charged particles in Pb-Pb
collisions at = 2.76 TeV have been measured by the ALICE
Collaboration at the LHC. The data are presented for central and peripheral
collisions, corresponding to 0-5% and 70-80% of the hadronic Pb-Pb cross
section. The measured charged particle spectra in and GeV/ are compared to the expectation in pp collisions at the same
, scaled by the number of underlying nucleon-nucleon
collisions. The comparison is expressed in terms of the nuclear modification
factor . The result indicates only weak medium effects ( 0.7) in peripheral collisions. In central collisions,
reaches a minimum of about 0.14 at -7GeV/ and increases
significantly at larger . The measured suppression of high- particles is stronger than that observed at lower collision energies,
indicating that a very dense medium is formed in central Pb-Pb collisions at
the LHC.Comment: 15 pages, 5 captioned figures, 3 tables, authors from page 10,

Two-pion Bose-Einstein correlations in central Pb-Pb collisions at = 2.76 TeV
The first measurement of two-pion Bose-Einstein correlations in central Pb-Pb
collisions at TeV at the Large Hadron Collider is
presented. We observe a growing trend with energy now not only for the
longitudinal and the outward but also for the sideward pion source radius. The
pion homogeneity volume and the decoupling time are significantly larger than
those measured at RHIC.Comment: 17 pages, 5 captioned figures, 1 table, authors from page 12,

Particle-yield modification in jet-like azimuthal di-hadron correlations in Pb-Pb collisions at = 2.76 TeV
The yield of charged particles associated with high- trigger
particles ( GeV/) is measured with the ALICE detector in
Pb-Pb collisions at = 2.76 TeV relative to proton-proton
collisions at the same energy. The conditional per-trigger yields are extracted
from the narrow jet-like correlation peaks in azimuthal di-hadron correlations.
In the 5% most central collisions, we observe that the yield of associated
charged particles with transverse momenta GeV/ on the
away-side drops to about 60% of that observed in pp collisions, while on the
near-side a moderate enhancement of 20-30% is found.Comment: 15 pages, 2 captioned figures, 1 table, authors from page 10,

Various correlations in a Heisenberg XXZ spin chain both in thermal equilibrium and under the intrinsic decoherence
In this paper we discuss various correlations measured by the concurrence
(C), classical correlation (CC), quantum discord (QD), and geometric measure of
discord (GMD) in a two-qubit Heisenberg XXZ spin chain in the presence of
external magnetic field and Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) anisotropic
antisymmetric interaction. Based on the analytically derived expressions for
the correlations for the cases of thermal equilibrium and the inclusion of
intrinsic decoherence, we discuss and compare the effects of various system
parameters on the correlations in different cases. The results show that the
anisotropy Jz is considerably crucial for the correlations in thermal
equilibrium at zero temperature limit but ineffective under the consideration
of the intrinsic decoherence, and these quantities decrease as temperature T
rises on the whole. Besides, J turned out to be constructive, but B be
detrimental in the manipulation and control of various quantities both in
thermal equilibrium and under the intrinsic decoherence which can be avoided by
tuning other system parameters, while D is constructive in thermal equilibrium,
but destructive in the case of intrinsic decoherence in general. In addition,
for the initial state , all
the correlations except the CC, exhibit a damping oscillation to a stable value
larger than zero following the time, while for the initial state , all the correlations monotonously
decrease, but CC still remains maximum. Moreover, there is not a definite
ordering of these quantities in thermal equilibrium, whereas there is a
descending order of the CC, C, GMD and QD under the intrinsic decoherence with
a nonnull B when the initial state is .Comment: 8 pages, 7 figure
Very Singular Diffusion Equations-Second and Fourth Order Problems
This paper studies singular diffusion equations whose diffusion effect is so strong that the speed of evolution becomes a nonlocal quantity. Typical examples include the total variation flow as well as crystalline flow which are formally of second order. This paper includes fourth order models which are less studied compared with second order models. A typical example of this model is an H−1 gradient flow of total variation. It turns out that such a flow is quite different from the second order total variation flow. For example, we prove that the solution may instantaneously develop jump discontinuity for the fourth order total variation flow by giving an explicit example
