Blue luminescence of Au nanoclusters embedded in silica matrix
Photoluminescence study using the 325 nm He-Cd excitation is reported for the
Au nanoclusters embedded in SiO2 matrix. Au clusters are grown by ion beam
mixing with 100 KeV Ar+ irradiation on Au [40 nm]/SiO2 at various fluences and
subsequent annealing at high temperature. The blue bands above ~3 eV match
closely with reported values for colloidal Au nanoclusters and supported Au
nanoislands. Radiative recombination of sp electrons above Fermi level to
occupied d-band holes are assigned for observed luminescence peaks. Peaks at
3.1 eV and 3.4 eV are correlated to energy gaps at the X- and L-symmetry
points, respectively, with possible involvement of relaxation mechanism. The
blue shift of peak positions at 3.4 eV with decreasing cluster size is reported
to be due to the compressive strain in small clusters. A first principle
calculation based on density functional theory using the full potential linear
augmented plane wave plus local orbitals (FP-LAPW+LO) formalism with
generalized gradient approximation (GGA) for the exchange correlation energy is
used to estimate the band gaps at the X- and L-symmetry points by calculating
the band structures and joint density of states (JDOS) for different strain
values in order to explain the blueshift of ~0.1 eV with decreasing cluster

(Not) being at home: Hsu Ming Teo's Behind the Moon (2005) and Michelle de Kretser's Questions of Travel (2012)
This article examines some interventions of Asian Australian writing into the debate over multiculturalism, and the shift from negative stereotyping of Asian migrants, to reification of racial divisions and propagation of a masked racism, to the creation of new alignments and the revival of pre-existing affiliations by migrant and second generation subjects. It compares the practices of not-at-homeness by Asian migrants and their descendants and white Australians in Hsu Ming Teo’s Behind the Moon with those of a Sri Lankan refugee and a white Australian traveller in Michelle de Kretser’s Questions of Travel. The changing concepts of belonging in the novels show a realignment of core and periphery relations within the nation state under the pressures of multiculturalism and globalization: where home is and how it is configured are questions as important for white Australians whose sense of territory is challenged as they are for Asian migrants who seek to establish a new belonging
Mapping of hydrogen fuel quality in Europe
As part of FCH-JU funded HyCoRA project running from 2014 to 2017, 28 gaseous and 13 particulate samples were collected from hydrogen refueling stations in Europe. Samples were collected with commercial sampling instruments and analysis performed in compliance with prevailing fuel quality standards. Sampling was conducted with focus on diversity in feedstock as well as commissioning date of the HRS. Results indicate that the strategy for sampling was good. No evidence of impurity cross-over was observed. Parallel samples collected indicate some variation in analytical results. It was however found that fuel quality was generally good. Fourteen analytical results were in violation with the fuel tolerance limits. Therefore, eight or 29% of the samples were in violation with the fuel quality requirements. Nitrogen, oxygen and organics were the predominant impurities quantified. Particulate impurities were found to be within fuel quality specifications. No correlation between fuel quality and hydrogen feedstock or HRS commissioning date was found. Nitrogen to oxygen ratios gave no indication of samples being contaminated by air. A comparison of analytical results between two different laboratories were conducted. Some difference in analytical results were observed.publishedVersio
