This paper contains first some definitions and classifications regarding the fluidic elements. Thegeneral current status is presented, nominating the main specific elements based on the Coanda effect developedspecially in Romania. In particularly the development of an original bistable element using industrial compressedair at industrial pressure supply is presented. The function of this element is based on the controlled attachmentof the main jet at a curved wall through the Coanda effect. The methods used for particular calculation andexperiments are nominated. The main application of these elements was to develop a specific execution element:a fluidic step–by-step motor based on the Coanda effect

The lack of suitable didactic material for the study of the Italian Culture and Civilization, as well as the interest that this knowledge has for the complete acquisition of the Italian language, which does not only imply the knowledge of linguistic and grammar resources, as the traditional language teaching system would have thought, has made us decide to develop a multimedia game. This computer game asks a series of questions which have different possible answers, and once the student answers, he gets visual and oral feeback on his answer, even if this answer is wrong. The items presented are of general knowledge (history, geography, politics, well known institutions, literature, arts, science, show business and traditions). Therefore, the player acquires a knowledge similar to the one average Italians have

A New Chapter in the Management of Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy: Cardiac Myosin Inhibitors

    Get PDF
In the recent years, there has been a significant breakthrough in the treatment of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. New precision molecules have been developed and successfully applied in clinical trials. A new class of orally available allosteric inhibitors reduces heart muscle hypercontractility, the core molecular defect of the disease, by selectively inhibiting cardiac beta-myosin. Based on the results obtained with the first two agents developed to date, mavacamten and aficamten, their use is safe and is associated with rapid and unprecedented improvement in quality of life and functional capacity in patients with left ventricular outflow tract obstruction, comparable to an optimal surgical result. This review provides an overview of the latest and most important studies that led to the approval of mavacamten by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and the clinical development of aficamten

Pattern and degree of left ventricular remodeling following a tailored surgical approach for hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy.

Background The role of a tailored surgical approach for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) on regional ventricular remodelling remains unknown. The aims of this study were to evaluate the pattern, extent and functional impact of regional ventricular remodelling after a tailored surgical approach. Methods From 2005 to 2008, 44 patients with obstructive HCM underwent tailored surgical intervention. Of those, 14 were ineligible for cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) studies. From the remainder, 14 unselected patients (42±12 years) underwent pre- and post-operative CMR studies at a median 12 months post-operatively (range 4-37 months). Regional changes in left ventricular (LV) thickness as well as global LV function following surgery were assessed using CMR Tools (London, UK). Results Pre-operative mean echocardiographic septal thickness was 21±4 mm and mean LV outflow gradient was 69±32 mmHg. Following surgery, there was a significant degree of regional regression of LV thickness in all segments of the LV, ranging from 16% in the antero-lateral midventricular segment to 41% in the anterior basal segment. Wall thickening was significantly increased in basal segments but showed no significant change in the midventricular or apical segments. Globally, mean indexed LV mass decreased significantly after surgery (120±29g/m2 versus 154±36g/m2; p<0.001). There was a trend for increased indexed LV end-diastolic volume (70±13 mL versus 65±11 mL; p=0.16) with a normalization of LV ejection fraction (68±7% versus 75±9%; p<0.01). Conclusion Following a tailored surgical relief of outflow obstruction for HCM, there is a marked regional reverse LV remodelling. These changes could have a significant impact on overall ventricular dynamics and function
