Рецидив гетеротопической оссификации в результате вывиха эндопротеза тазобедренного сустава: клинический случай
Background. Heterotopic ossification (HO) is the formation of mature bone in soft tissues. HO in the hip area can be a consequence of both injury to the nervous system and local trauma. After total hip arthroplasty HO develops in 30% of cases.
The aim of the study is to demonstrate a rare clinical case of a recurrence of HO in patient after a primary total hip arthroplasty, accompanied by ankylosing.
Case presentation. A 32-year-old patient was admitted to the clinic for revision hip arthroplasty with a diagnosis long-standing dislocation of the right hip joint endoprosthesis head, heterotopic ossification 3 years after dislocation. During the surgery, there were difficulties with the sciatic nerve dissection, as well as the structures of the endoprosthesis. We removed all the ossifications that obstructed the dislocation of the endoprosthesis. The patient had sciatic nerve neuropathy on the right lower limb with lesions of the fibular and tibial nerves on the background of edema. The patient was discharged on the 21st day. The presented clinical case is interesting because the patients relapse could be caused by a combination of various risk factors. Taking into account the fact that the injury was received as a result of an accident and the patient had a fracture of the bones of the contralateral shin, it could be the effect of a local hip injury that aggravated the process.
Conclusions. This clinical observation highlights the importance of preventing possible complications after surgery and maintaining feedback with patients, especially those belonging to the high-risk group. It is likely that with adequate prevention of the HO formation and timely reduction of dislocation, the problems described in the article after primary total hip arthroplasty could have been avoided.
One-shot learning with triplet loss for vegetation classification tasks
Triplet loss function is one of the options that can significantly improve the accuracy of the One-shot Learning tasks. Starting from 2015, many projects use Siamese networks and this kind of loss for face recognition and object classification. In our research, we focused on two tasks related to vegetation. The first one is plant disease detection on 25 classes of five crops (grape, cotton, wheat, cucumbers, and corn). This task is motivated because harvest losses due to diseases is a serious problem for both large farming structures and rural families. The second task is the identification of moss species (5 classes). Mosses are natural bioaccumulators of pollutants; therefore, they are used in environmental monitoring programs. The identification of moss species is an important step in the sample preprocessing. In both tasks, we used self-collected image databases. We tried several deep learning architectures and approaches. Our Siamese network architecture with a triplet loss function and MobileNetV2 as a base network showed the most impressive results in both above-mentioned tasks. The average accuracy for plant disease detection amounted to over 97.8% and 97.6% for moss species classification.A.V.U. and A.V.N. gratefully acknowledge financial support from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation in accordance with agreement No 075-15-2020-905 dated November 16, 2020 on providing a grant in the form of subsidies from the Federal budget of Russian Federation. Ladle and In-mold Modification Methods for Obtaining Castings from Cast Irons with Various Graphite Morphology
Introduction. In the world practice of foundry, modification has reached the status of leading direction of research and
applied work to improve the technological and service properties of structural cast irons.
Problem Statement. Modifying treatment of liquid iron provides for not only the creation of certain types of modifiers,
but also for the development of such methods for introducing modifier into the melt, which are adaptable to the conditions
of foundries and take into account the requirements for specific groups of castings.
Purpose. To develop a pilot technology for the modification of electric furnace melts of cast iron in unsealed ladle with
removable bowl caver and casting molds using complex reagents in the form of pressed powder briquettes and lumpy fused
master alloys for the production of castings with lamellar, vermicular and spherical graphite.
Materials and Methods. The following materials have been used in the research: gray cast iron, as an object of research
for modifying treatment, magnesium-lanthanum-containing lumpy and briquetted powder modifiers, as well as nitrogencontaining
lumpy and briquetted powder modifiers to produce cast iron with various forms of graphite, depending on the
requirements for castings.
Results. A pilot technology for cast irons using pressed powder nitriding briquettes to increase twice the tensile strength
of structural gray cast irons (from 200 MPa to 400 MPa) without alloying and heat treatment and a ladle process for modifying
molten iron melts with lanthanum-containing modifiers have been developed. The prospects for the production of nitrated
iron with vermicular graphite with a sulfur content of up to 0.1% wt. by re-melting the nitrogenous metal charge and fresh
and rotary cast irons and therefore with the possible minimum additional introduction of nitrogen in the furnace or in the
ladle or in the mold have been substantiated.
Conclusions. The pressed powder composite modifiers are recommended as the most effective ones for the mentioned
modifying methods, depending on the requirements for castings.Вступ. У світовій практиці ливарного виробництва модифікування досягло статусу провідного напряму науково-дослідних та прикладних робіт з поліпшення технологічних і службових властивостей конструкційних чавунів.

Reversible Pressure-Induced Amorphization in Solid C70 : Raman and Photoluminescence Study
We have studied single crystals of by Raman scattering and
photoluminescence in the pressure range from 0 to 31.1 GPa. The Raman spectrum
at 31.1 GPa shows only a broad band similar to that of the amorphous carbon
without any trace of the Raman lines of . After releasing the pressure
from 31.1 GPa, the Raman and the photoluminescence spectra of the recovered
sample are that of the starting crystal. These results indicate that
the molecules are stable upto 31.1 GPa and the amorphous carbon high
pressure phase is reversible, in sharp contrast to the results on solid
. A qualitative explaination is suggested in terms of inter- versus
intra-molecular interactions.Comment: To appear in Phys. Rev. Lett., 12 pages, RevTeX (preprint format), 3

The first dozen years of the history of ITEP Theoretical Physics Laboratory
The theoretical investigations at ITEP in the years 1945-1958 are reviewed.
There are exposed the most important theoretical results, obtained in the
following branches of physics: 1) the theory of nuclear reactors on thermal
neutrons; 2) the hydrogen bomb project ("Tube" in USSR and "Classical Super" in
USA); 3) radiation theory; ~4) low temperature physics; 5) quantum
electrodynamics and quantum field theories; 6) parity violation in weak
interactions, the theory of -decay and other weak processes; 7) strong
interaction and nuclear physics. To the review are added the English
translations of few papers, originally published in Russian, but unknown (or
almost unknown) to Western readers.Comment: 55 pages, 5 fig
Evidence of Color Coherence Effects in W+jets Events from ppbar Collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV
We report the results of a study of color coherence effects in ppbar
collisions based on data collected by the D0 detector during the 1994-1995 run
of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, at a center of mass energy sqrt(s) = 1.8
TeV. Initial-to-final state color interference effects are studied by examining
particle distribution patterns in events with a W boson and at least one jet.
The data are compared to Monte Carlo simulations with different color coherence
implementations and to an analytic modified-leading-logarithm perturbative
calculation based on the local parton-hadron duality hypothesis.Comment: 13 pages, 6 figures. Submitted to Physics Letters
Shrinking a large dataset to identify variables associated with increased risk of Plasmodium falciparum infection in Western Kenya
Large datasets are often not amenable to analysis using traditional single-step approaches. Here, our general objective was to apply imputation techniques, principal component analysis (PCA), elastic net and generalized linear models to a large dataset in a systematic approach to extract the most meaningful predictors for a health outcome. We extracted predictors for Plasmodium falciparum infection, from a large covariate dataset while facing limited numbers of observations, using data from the People, Animals, and their Zoonoses (PAZ) project to demonstrate these techniques: data collected from 415 homesteads in western Kenya, contained over 1500 variables that describe the health, environment, and social factors of the humans, livestock, and the homesteads in which they reside. The wide, sparse dataset was simplified to 42 predictors of P. falciparum malaria infection and wealth rankings were produced for all homesteads. The 42 predictors make biological sense and are supported by previous studies. This systematic data-mining approach we used would make many large datasets more manageable and informative for decision-making processes and health policy prioritization
Improved W boson mass measurement with the D0 detector
We have measured the W boson mass using the D0 detector and a data sample of
82 pb^-1 from the Tevatron collider. This measurement used W -> e nu decays,
where the electron is close to a boundary of a central electromagnetic
calorimeter module. Such 'edge' electrons have not been used in any previous D0
analysis, and represent a 14% increase in the W boson sample size. For these
electrons, new response and resolution parameters are determined, and revised
backgrounds and underlying event energy flow measurements are made. When the
current measurement is combined with previous D0 W boson mass measurements, we
obtain M_W = 80.483 +/- 0.084 GeV. The 8% improvement from the previous D0
measurement is primarily due to the improved determination of the response
parameters for non-edge electrons using the sample of Z bosons with non-edge
and edge electrons.Comment: submitted to Phys. Rev. D; 20 pages, 18 figures, 9 table
Global Search for New Physics with 2.0/fb at CDF
Data collected in Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron are searched for
indications of new electroweak-scale physics. Rather than focusing on
particular new physics scenarios, CDF data are analyzed for discrepancies with
the standard model prediction. A model-independent approach (Vista) considers
gross features of the data, and is sensitive to new large cross-section
physics. Further sensitivity to new physics is provided by two additional
algorithms: a Bump Hunter searches invariant mass distributions for "bumps"
that could indicate resonant production of new particles; and the Sleuth
procedure scans for data excesses at large summed transverse momentum. This
combined global search for new physics in 2.0/fb of ppbar collisions at
sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV reveals no indication of physics beyond the standard model.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures. Final version which appeared in Physical Review D

Observation of Orbitally Excited B_s Mesons
We report the first observation of two narrow resonances consistent with
states of orbitally excited (L=1) B_s mesons using 1 fb^{-1} of ppbar
collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV collected with the CDF II detector at the
Fermilab Tevatron. We use two-body decays into K^- and B^+ mesons reconstructed
as B^+ \to J/\psi K^+, J/\psi \to \mu^+ \mu^- or B^+ \to \bar{D}^0 \pi^+,
\bar{D}^0 \to K^+ \pi^-. We deduce the masses of the two states to be m(B_{s1})
= 5829.4 +- 0.7 MeV/c^2 and m(B_{s2}^*) = 5839.7 +- 0.7 MeV/c^2.Comment: Version accepted and published by Phys. Rev. Let
