    Health Outcomes in Pathways to Housing Clients

    Introduction: Homelessness is widespread throughout the United States, with homeless individuals accounting for over half a million of the country’s population. In addition, chronic mental, behavioral, and medical issues are overly expressed in this population. Therefore, the purpose of this project was to determine if the Housing First Model, represented by Pathways to Housing PA, would alleviate these chronic conditions over the course of stay. Methods: The target population of the study was the homeless population, specifically within the city of Philadelphia. Data was collected via the SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) NOMs (National Outcome Measures) survey. To determine the difference of clinical measures over time, a repeated measures ANOVA was conducted. The main outcomes measured were systolic blood pressure, perception of life quality, and overall perception of health, as they were the three measures with the most robust data. Results: Data collected from all four sites (n=256) of Pathways to Housing was analyzed together to see if there was a noticeable difference from baseline to time of departure, in 6-month increments. However, the analysis for all three measures of systolic blood pressure (p=.136), perception of life quality (p=.223), and overall perception of health (p=.484) had p-values above the cutoff of 0.05. Therefore, there was no statistical difference in the three of the outcome measures over time. Conclusion: The results fail to support the hypothesis that Pathways to Housing PA made a statistically significant difference in systolic blood pressure, perception of life quality, and overall perception of health. It has been hypothesized that this may be due to the attrition rate as well as missing data points. In the future we are looking to see if there are more data points to analyze as the data is continually being collected. In addition, we are looking at analyzing more site-specific information

    Esta investigación tuvo como objetivo determinar la relación entre el clima organizacional y la percepción de rotación en trabajadores de una empresa metalmecánica de Ate. Fue un estudio de tipo básico de nivel correlacional, no experimental y transversal. La población fue compuesta por 200 personas, entre varones y mujeres, trabajadores de una empresa metalmecánica. La recolección de datos se obtuvo a través de dos instrumentos. La escala de clima organizacional (EDCO) de Egoavil (2014) y la escala de rotación del personal (ERS) de Galindo (2020). Se obtuvo como resultado una correlación negativa alta (-0.781), esto señala que hay correlación ambas variables, esto se corrobora mediante el valor de la significancia (Sig.=0.000) que es menor a 0.05. En conclusión, se visualiza que entre ambas variables se encuentra una correlación negativa alta Indicando que si en la organización se presenta un buen clima organizacional los niveles de percepción de rotación bajan, y de forma inversa si el clima el bajo o malo, los niveles de percepción de rotar aumentarían

En el desarrollo de esta actividad haremos uso de una solución tecnológica para el filtrado web e implementación de firewall y la prestación de otros servicios, esta herramienta es llamada Zentyal y a través de ella realizaremos la configuración de una red servidor cliente en donde tendremos que instalar los servicios de servidor DHCP, DNS y por último un controlador de dominio.The implementation of the different tools offered by Linux distributions allow having applications capable of providing a technological infrastructure, with better characteristics or similar to those that can be seen in the market such as Windows, with the value proposition of be free and freely usable by different organizations. In the development of this activity we will use a technological solution for web filtering and firewall implementation and the provision of other services, this tool is called Zentyal and through it we will configure a client server network where we will have to install the DHCP server services, DNS and finally a domain controller

    A Multilaboratory Comparison of Calibration Accuracy and the Performance of External References in Analytical Ultracentrifugation

    Analytical ultracentrifugation (AUC) is a first principles based method to determine absolute sedimentation coefficients and buoyant molar masses of macromolecules and their complexes, reporting on their size and shape in free solution. The purpose of this multi-laboratory study was to establish the precision and accuracy of basic data dimensions in AUC and validate previously proposed calibration techniques. Three kits of AUC cell assemblies containing radial and temperature calibration tools and a bovine serum albumin (BSA) reference sample were shared among 67 laboratories, generating 129 comprehensive data sets. These allowed for an assessment of many parameters of instrument performance, including accuracy of the reported scan time after the start of centrifugation, the accuracy of the temperature calibration, and the accuracy of the radial magnification. The range of sedimentation coefficients obtained for BSA monomer in different instruments and using different optical systems was from 3.655 S to 4.949 S, with a mean and standard deviation of (4.304 ± 0.188) S (4.4%). After the combined application of correction factors derived from the external calibration references for elapsed time, scan velocity, temperature, and radial magnification, the range of s-values was reduced 7-fold with a mean of 4.325 S and a 6-fold reduced standard deviation of ± 0.030 S (0.7%). In addition, the large data set provided an opportunity to determine the instrument-to-instrument variation of the absolute radial positions reported in the scan files, the precision of photometric or refractometric signal magnitudes, and the precision of the calculated apparent molar mass of BSA monomer and the fraction of BSA dimers. These results highlight the necessity and effectiveness of independent calibration of basic AUC data dimensions for reliable quantitative studies

    Genomic Relationships, Novel Loci, and Pleiotropic Mechanisms across Eight Psychiatric Disorders

    Genetic influences on psychiatric disorders transcend diagnostic boundaries, suggesting substantial pleiotropy of contributing loci. However, the nature and mechanisms of these pleiotropic effects remain unclear. We performed analyses of 232,964 cases and 494,162 controls from genome-wide studies of anorexia nervosa, attention-deficit/hyper-activity disorder, autism spectrum disorder, bipolar disorder, major depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, and Tourette syndrome. Genetic correlation analyses revealed a meaningful structure within the eight disorders, identifying three groups of inter-related disorders. Meta-analysis across these eight disorders detected 109 loci associated with at least two psychiatric disorders, including 23 loci with pleiotropic effects on four or more disorders and 11 loci with antagonistic effects on multiple disorders. The pleiotropic loci are located within genes that show heightened expression in the brain throughout the lifespan, beginning prenatally in the second trimester, and play prominent roles in neurodevelopmental processes. These findings have important implications for psychiatric nosology, drug development, and risk prediction.Peer reviewe

    Dissecting the Shared Genetic Architecture of Suicide Attempt, Psychiatric Disorders, and Known Risk Factors

    Background Suicide is a leading cause of death worldwide, and nonfatal suicide attempts, which occur far more frequently, are a major source of disability and social and economic burden. Both have substantial genetic etiology, which is partially shared and partially distinct from that of related psychiatric disorders. Methods We conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) of 29,782 suicide attempt (SA) cases and 519,961 controls in the International Suicide Genetics Consortium (ISGC). The GWAS of SA was conditioned on psychiatric disorders using GWAS summary statistics via multitrait-based conditional and joint analysis, to remove genetic effects on SA mediated by psychiatric disorders. We investigated the shared and divergent genetic architectures of SA, psychiatric disorders, and other known risk factors. Results Two loci reached genome-wide significance for SA: the major histocompatibility complex and an intergenic locus on chromosome 7, the latter of which remained associated with SA after conditioning on psychiatric disorders and replicated in an independent cohort from the Million Veteran Program. This locus has been implicated in risk-taking behavior, smoking, and insomnia. SA showed strong genetic correlation with psychiatric disorders, particularly major depression, and also with smoking, pain, risk-taking behavior, sleep disturbances, lower educational attainment, reproductive traits, lower socioeconomic status, and poorer general health. After conditioning on psychiatric disorders, the genetic correlations between SA and psychiatric disorders decreased, whereas those with nonpsychiatric traits remained largely unchanged. Conclusions Our results identify a risk locus that contributes more strongly to SA than other phenotypes and suggest a shared underlying biology between SA and known risk factors that is not mediated by psychiatric disorders.Peer reviewe

    Large expert-curated database for benchmarking document similarity detection in biomedical literature search

    Document recommendation systems for locating relevant literature have mostly relied on methods developed a decade ago. This is largely due to the lack of a large offline gold-standard benchmark of relevant documents that cover a variety of research fields such that newly developed literature search techniques can be compared, improved and translated into practice. To overcome this bottleneck, we have established the RElevant LIterature SearcH consortium consisting of more than 1500 scientists from 84 countries, who have collectively annotated the relevance of over 180 000 PubMed-listed articles with regard to their respective seed (input) article/s. The majority of annotations were contributed by highly experienced, original authors of the seed articles. The collected data cover 76% of all unique PubMed Medical Subject Headings descriptors. No systematic biases were observed across different experience levels, research fields or time spent on annotations. More importantly, annotations of the same document pairs contributed by different scientists were highly concordant. We further show that the three representative baseline methods used to generate recommended articles for evaluation (Okapi Best Matching 25, Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency and PubMed Related Articles) had similar overall performances. Additionally, we found that these methods each tend to produce distinct collections of recommended articles, suggesting that a hybrid method may be required to completely capture all relevant articles. The established database server located at https://relishdb.ict.griffith.edu.au is freely available for the downloading of annotation data and the blind testing of new methods. We expect that this benchmark will be useful for stimulating the development of new powerful techniques for title and title/abstract-based search engines for relevant articles in biomedical research.Peer reviewe
