Realistic simulations of single-spin nondemolition measurement by magnetic resonance force microscopy

    Get PDF
A requirement for many quantum computation schemes is the ability to measure single spins. This paper examines one proposed scheme: magnetic resonance force microscopy, including the effects of thermal noise and back-action from monitoring. We derive a simplified equation using the adiabatic approximation, and produce a stochastic pure state unraveling which is useful for numerical simulations.Comment: 33 pages LaTeX, 9 figure files in EPS format. Higgs-Boson Production Associated with a Single Bottom Quark in Supersymmetric QCD

Due to the enhancement of the couplings between Higgs boson and bottom quarks in the minimal sypersymmetric standard model (MSSM), the cross section of the process pp(p\bar{p}) \to h^0b(h^0\bar{b})+X at hadron colliders can be considerably enhanced. We investigated the production of Higgs boson associated with a single high-p_T bottom quark via subprocess bg(\bar{b}g) \to h^0b(h^0\bar{b}) at hadron colliders including the next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections in MSSM. We find that the NLO QCD correction in the MSSM reaches 50%-70% at the LHC and 60%-85% at the Fermilab Tevatron in our chosen parameter space.Comment: accepted by Phys. Rev.

Pseudoscalar Higgs boson production associated with a single bottom quark at hadron colliders

We compute the complete next-to-leading order (NLO) SUSY-QCD corrections for the associated production of a pseudoscalar Higgs boson with a bottom quark via bottom-gluon fusion at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the Fermilab Tevatron. We find that the NLO QCD correction in the MSSM reaches 4040%\sim50% at the LHC and 4545%\sim80% at the Tevatron in our chosen parameter space

Measurement of the Bottom-Strange Meson Mixing Phase in the Full CDF Data Set

We report a measurement of the bottom-strange meson mixing phase \beta_s using the time evolution of B0_s -> J/\psi (->\mu+\mu-) \phi (-> K+ K-) decays in which the quark-flavor content of the bottom-strange meson is identified at production. This measurement uses the full data set of proton-antiproton collisions at sqrt(s)= 1.96 TeV collected by the Collider Detector experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron, corresponding to 9.6 fb-1 of integrated luminosity. We report confidence regions in the two-dimensional space of \beta_s and the B0_s decay-width difference \Delta\Gamma_s, and measure \beta_s in [-\pi/2, -1.51] U [-0.06, 0.30] U [1.26, \pi/2] at the 68% confidence level, in agreement with the standard model expectation. Assuming the standard model value of \beta_s, we also determine \Delta\Gamma_s = 0.068 +- 0.026 (stat) +- 0.009 (syst) ps-1 and the mean B0_s lifetime, \tau_s = 1.528 +- 0.019 (stat) +- 0.009 (syst) ps, which are consistent and competitive with determinations by other experiments.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures, Phys. Space-like Penguin Effects in BPPB \to PP Decays

The space-like penguin contributions to branching ratios and CP asymmetries in charmless decays of BB to two pseudoscalar mesons are studied using the next-to-leading order low energy effective Hamiltonian. Both the gluonic penguin and the electroweak penguin diagrams are considered. We find that the effects are significant.Comment: 18 pages, LaTex file, 2 figure

Discovery of widespread transcription initiation at microsatellites predictable by sequence-based deep neural network

Using the Cap Analysis of Gene Expression (CAGE) technology, the FANTOM5 consortium provided one of the most comprehensive maps of transcription start sites (TSSs) in several species. Strikingly, ~72% of them could not be assigned to a specific gene and initiate at unconventional regions, outside promoters or enhancers. Here, we probe these unassigned TSSs and show that, in all species studied, a significant fraction of CAGE peaks initiate at microsatellites, also called short tandem repeats (STRs). To confirm this transcription, we develop Cap Trap RNA-seq, a technology which combines cap trapping and long read MinION sequencing. We train sequence-based deep learning models able to predict CAGE signal at STRs with high accuracy. These models unveil the importance of STR surrounding sequences not only to distinguish STR classes, but also to predict the level of transcription initiation. Importantly, genetic variants linked to human diseases are preferentially found at STRs with high transcription initiation level, supporting the biological and clinical relevance of transcription initiation at STRs. Together, our results extend the repertoire of non-coding transcription associated with DNA tandem repeats and complexify STR polymorphism

A HIGH TEMPERATURE INTERNAL FRICTION STUDY OF THE RARE EARTH ELEMENT IN 16MN STEEL

    No full text
Five kinds of specimens of 6Mn steel were contained a small amount of Cerium of different contents (1,0 ; 2,0.028wt% ; 3,0.050wt% ; 4,0.12wt% ; 5,0.083wt%). An internal friction peak near 600 °C (f=0.65Hz) was observed with torsion pendulum. The activation energy of this peak was found to be about 2.5eV, which the specimen contained Ce element after Carbon and Nitrogen were removed. But no peak was abserved which the specimen did not contain any rare earth element. It was abserved that the peak of specimen, containing some rare earth element, either appeared or disappeared with the different heat-treatment procedure. The microanalysis with EPMA showed that 0.308wt% was the content of Cerium element in the grain boundary area where no inclusion existance, on which the X-ray was irradiated. Based on the characters of internal friction peaks in this work and the former researches of the rare earth internal friction, it may be concluded that the peaks are the solid solution peak of Cerium element in 16Mn steel. The mechanism of the solid solution of Cerium in 16Mn steel will be discussed
