Surface Structures Determined by Kinetic Processes: Adsorption and Diffusion of Oxygen on Pd(100)
Atomic oxygen forms a metastable c(2×2) phase on Pd(100) under conditions of rapid adsorption (high pressure) and slow diffusion (low sample temperature). One possible explanation is that oxygen molecules require an 8-fold ensemble of empty sites for dissociative chemisorption, and that subsequent adatom motion is limited and creates no neighboring pairs of filled sites. Evidence for the classical integrability of the complete AdS(4) x CP(3) superstring
We construct a zero-curvature Lax connection in a sub-sector of the
superstring theory on AdS(4) x CP(3) which is not described by the
OSp(6|4)/U(3) x SO(1,3) supercoset sigma-model. In this sub-sector worldsheet
fermions associated to eight broken supersymmetries of the type IIA background
are physical fields. As such, the prescription for the construction of the Lax
connection based on the Z_4-automorphism of the isometry superalgebra OSp(6|4)
does not do the job. So, to construct the Lax connection we have used an
alternative method which nevertheless relies on the isometry of the target

Dualities for Loop Amplitudes of N=6 Chern-Simons Matter Theory
In this paper we study the one- and two-loop corrections to the four-point
amplitude of N=6 Chern-Simons matter theory. Using generalized unitarity
methods we express the one- and two-loop amplitudes in terms of dual-conformal
integrals. Explicit integration by using dimensional reduction gives vanishing
one-loop result as expected, while the two-loop result is non-vanishing and
matches with the Wilson loop computation. Furthermore, the two-loop correction
takes the same form as the one-loop correction to the four-point amplitude of
N=4 super Yang-Mills. We discuss possible higher loop extensions of this
correspondence between the two theories. As a side result, we extend the method
of dimensional reduction for three dimensions to five dimensions where dual
conformal symmetry is most manifest, demonstrating significant simplification

A dearth of small particles in the transiting material around the white dwarfWD 1145+017
White dwarf WD 1145+017 is orbited by several clouds of dust, possibly
emanating from actively disintegrating bodies. These dust clouds reveal
themselves through deep, broad, and evolving transits in the star's light
curve. Here, we report two epochs of multi-wavelength photometric observations
of WD 1145+017, including several filters in the optical, K and
4.5 m bands in 2016 and 2017. The observed transit depths are different at
these wavelengths. However, after correcting for excess dust emission at
K and 4.5 m, we find the transit depths for the white dwarf
itself are the same at all wavelengths, at least to within the observational
uncertainties of 5%-10%. From this surprising result, and under the
assumption of low optical depth dust clouds, we conclude that there is a
deficit of small particles (with radii 1.5 m) in the
transiting material. We propose a model wherein only large particles can
survive the high equilibrium temperature environment corresponding to 4.5 hr
orbital periods around WD 1145+017, while small particles sublimate rapidly. In
addition, we evaluate dust models that are permitted by our measurements of
infrared emission
Manufacturing of CD19 Specific CAR T-Cells and Evaluation of their Functional Activity in Vitro
Background. The most promising variant of adoptive immunotherapy of the B-line oncohematological diseases includes the use of cells with the chimeric antigen receptor (CAR T-cells), that showed extraordinary results in clinical studies.
Aim. To manufacture CAR T-cells for the clinical use and to study their cytotoxicity in vitro.
Methods. Human T-lymphocytes were transduced by the lentiviral vector containing anti-CD19-CAR, RIAD, and GFP genes. The T-cell transduction efficacy was assessed on the basis of GFP protein signal by flow cytometry. Propidium iodide was used to analyse the cell viability. Cytotoxic activity of the manufactured CAR T-cells was studied in the presence of the target cells being directly co-cultivated. Analysis of the number and viability of CAR T-cells and cytokine expression was performed by flow cytometry.
Results. The viability of the transduced T-cells and GFP expression reached 91.87 % and 50.87 % respectively. When cultured in the presence of IL-2 and recombinant CD19 (the target antigen), the amount of CAR-T after 120 h of the process was 1.4 times larger compared with the period of 48 h. In the cytotoxic test of co-cultivation CAR-T with the K562-CD19+ cells the percentage of CAR-T increased to 57 % and 84.5 % after 48 h and 120 h of exposure respectively. When cultured with the K562 cells (test line not expressing CD19) the number of CAR T-cells decreased to 36.2 % within 48 h while the number of K562 cells increased to 58.3 %. The viability of target cells in the experimental and control groups was 3.5 % and 36.74 % respectively. Comparison of IL-6 level in the control and experimental groups revealed that the differences are insignificant, as opposed to the level of other cytokines (IFN-γ, IL-2, TNF) which proved to be different in both groups.
Conclusion. The present work resulted in the production of anti-CD19 CAR T-cells with adequate viability. The in vitro model demonstrated their cytotoxicity. Manufacturing of CAR T-cells for clinical use is the first step of the development of adoptive immunotherapy in the Russian Federation
To respond or not to respond - a personal perspective of intestinal tolerance
For many years, the intestine was one of the poor relations of the immunology world, being a realm inhabited mostly by specialists and those interested in unusual phenomena. However, this has changed dramatically in recent years with the realization of how important the microbiota is in shaping immune function throughout the body, and almost every major immunology institution now includes the intestine as an area of interest. One of the most important aspects of the intestinal immune system is how it discriminates carefully between harmless and harmful antigens, in particular, its ability to generate active tolerance to materials such as commensal bacteria and food proteins. This phenomenon has been recognized for more than 100 years, and it is essential for preventing inflammatory disease in the intestine, but its basis remains enigmatic. Here, I discuss the progress that has been made in understanding oral tolerance during my 40 years in the field and highlight the topics that will be the focus of future research
Holographic Vitrification
We establish the existence of stable and metastable stationary black hole
bound states at finite temperature and chemical potentials in global and planar
four-dimensional asymptotically anti-de Sitter space. We determine a number of
features of their holographic duals and argue they represent structural
glasses. We map out their thermodynamic landscape in the probe approximation,
and show their relaxation dynamics exhibits logarithmic aging, with aging rates

Search for Gravitational Waves from Primordial Black Hole Binary Coalescences in the Galactic Halo
We use data from the second science run of the LIGO gravitational-wave
detectors to search for the gravitational waves from primordial black hole
(PBH) binary coalescence with component masses in the range 0.2--.
The analysis requires a signal to be found in the data from both LIGO
observatories, according to a set of coincidence criteria. No inspiral signals
were found. Assuming a spherical halo with core radius 5 kpc extending to 50
kpc containing non-spinning black holes with masses in the range 0.2--, we place an observational upper limit on the rate of PBH coalescence
of 63 per year per Milky Way halo (MWH) with 90% confidence.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures, to be submitted to Phys. Rev.
Effective Rheology of Bubbles Moving in a Capillary Tube
We calculate the average volumetric flux versus pressure drop of bubbles
moving in a single capillary tube with varying diameter, finding a square-root
relation from mapping the flow equations onto that of a driven overdamped
pendulum. The calculation is based on a derivation of the equation of motion of
a bubble train from considering the capillary forces and the entropy production
associated with the viscous flow. We also calculate the configurational
probability of the positions of the bubbles.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figur
Measurement of the Bottom-Strange Meson Mixing Phase in the Full CDF Data Set
We report a measurement of the bottom-strange meson mixing phase \beta_s
using the time evolution of B0_s -> J/\psi (->\mu+\mu-) \phi (-> K+ K-) decays
in which the quark-flavor content of the bottom-strange meson is identified at
production. This measurement uses the full data set of proton-antiproton
collisions at sqrt(s)= 1.96 TeV collected by the Collider Detector experiment
at the Fermilab Tevatron, corresponding to 9.6 fb-1 of integrated luminosity.
We report confidence regions in the two-dimensional space of \beta_s and the
B0_s decay-width difference \Delta\Gamma_s, and measure \beta_s in [-\pi/2,
-1.51] U [-0.06, 0.30] U [1.26, \pi/2] at the 68% confidence level, in
agreement with the standard model expectation. Assuming the standard model
value of \beta_s, we also determine \Delta\Gamma_s = 0.068 +- 0.026 (stat) +-
0.009 (syst) ps-1 and the mean B0_s lifetime, \tau_s = 1.528 +- 0.019 (stat) +-
0.009 (syst) ps, which are consistent and competitive with determinations by
