Dispositivos lingĂŒĂsticos de acogida, aprendizaje expansivo e interculturalidad: Contribuciones para la inclusiĂłn educativa de estudiantes extranjeros
IndexaciĂłn: Scopus.In the context of the progressive increase of foreigners in public schools in Chile and the recent changes in migratory patterns, the presence of students who do not master the working language of the educational system has systematically incremented in recent years. In a scenario marked by the absence of educational policies that respond to this new linguistic diversity, the purpose of our research was to understand how schools have responded to the arrival of foreign students and what educational practices they have implemented to tackle this challenge. Through a two-year school ethnography in four public schools with high enrollment of foreigners, institutional documents were analyzed and field observation, interviews and focus groups were conducted with different actors amidst the educational communities. Through an analysis of thematic content, the results reveal the implementation of ten devices to manage educational responses to foreign students. We have analyzed three of these devices with a focus on linguistics based on the tensions and contradictions that occur within the educational institutions of which they are part, identifying significant elements and dimensions to drive forward expansive learning. Statistical Considerations for Subjective Visual Vertical and Subjective Visual Horizontal Assessment in Normal Subjects
Objectives: Judgments of the subjective visual vertical (SVV) and subjective visual horizontal (SVH) while seated upright are commonly included in standard clinical test batteries for vestibular function. We examined SVV and SVH data from retrospective control to assess their statistical distributions and normative values for magnitudes of the preset effect, sex differences, and fixed-head versus head-free device platforms for assessment. Methods: Retrospective clinical SVV and SVH data from 2 test platforms, Neuro-otologic Test Center (NOTC) and the Neurolign Dx 100 (I-Portal Portable Assessment System Nystagmograph) were analyzed statistically (SPSS and MATLAB software) for 408 healthy male and female civilians and military service members, aged 18â50 years. Results: No prominent age-related effects were observed. The preset angle effects for both SVV and SVH, and their deviations from orthogonality, agree in magnitude with previous reports. Differences attributable to interactions with device type and sex are of small magnitude. Analyses confirmed that common clinical measure for SVV and SVH, the average of equal numbers of clockwise and counterclockwise preset trials, was not significantly affected by the test device or sex of the subject. Finally, distributional analyses failed to reject the hypothesis of underlying Gaussian distributions for the clinical metrics. Conclusions: z scores based on these normative findings can be used for objective detection of outliers from normal functional limits in the clinic
Resting State Functional Connectivity between Dorsal Attentional Network and Right Inferior Frontal Gyrus in Concussed and Control Adolescents
Concussion among adolescents continues to be a public health concern. Yet, the differences in brain function between adolescents with a recent concussion and adolescents with no history of concussion are not well understood. Although resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) can be a useful tool in examining these differences, few studies have used this technique to examine concussion in adolescents. Here, we investigate the differences in the resting state functional connectivity of 52 adolescents, 38 with a concussion in the previous 10 days (mean age = 15.6; female = 36.8%), and 14 controls with no concussion history (mean age = 15.1; female = 57.1%). Independent component analysis and dual regression revealed that control adolescents had significantly greater functional connectivity between the dorsal attention network (DAN) and right inferior frontal gyrus (RIFG) compared to concussed adolescents (p-corrected < 0.001). Specifically, there was a positive DAN-RIFG connectivity in control, but not concussed, adolescents. Our findings indicate that concussion is associated with disrupted DAN-RIFG connectivity, which may reflect a general, nonspecific response to injury

"The ACC and the AHA have long been involved in the joint development of practice guidelines designed to assist healthcare providers in the management of selected cardiovascular disorders or the selection of certain cardiovascular procedures. The determination of the disorders or procedures to develop guidelines for is based on several factors, including importance to healthcare providers and whether there are sufficient data from which to derive accepted guidelines. One important category of cardiac disorders that affect a large number of patients who require diagnostic procedures and decisions regarding long-term management is valvular heart disease. During the past 2 decades, major advances have occurred in diagnostic techniques, the understanding of natural history, and interventional cardiology and surgical procedures for patients with valvular heart disease. These advances have resulted in enhanced diagnosis, more scientific selection of patients for surgery or catheter-based intervention versus medical management, and increased survival of patients with these disorders. The information base from which to make clinical management decisions has greatly expanded in recent years, yet in many situations, management issues remain controversial or uncertain. Unlike many other forms of cardiovascular disease, there is a scarcity of large-scale multicenter trials addressing the diagnosis and treatment of patients with valvular disease from which to derive definitive conclusions, and the information available in the literature represents primarily the experiences reported by single institutions in relatively small numbers of patients.
