    Gallium data variability and KamLAND

We present an alternative fit to the conventional solar+KamLAND one which takes into account the possible time dependence of the Ga data and relies on the partial conversion of active →\to sterile neutrinos via the magnetic moment/solar field interaction. We evaluate the prediction for the solar neutrino rates obtaining a fit of similar quality as the LMA one. We also evaluate the KamLAND antineutrino survival probability as a function of reactor distance and find a better agreement with data as compared to LMA.Comment: 3 pages, 1 figure, presented at NOW2006, Sep.9-16, Otranto, Ital

Socio-economic Dimensions of Equine-rearing in Himachal Pradesh

Since equines play an important role in the economy of Himachal Pradesh, this study has examined the growth trends in equine population and socio-economic characteristics of equine-rearers. The problems being faced have been identified and some policy recommendations have been made. It has been found that equine population had a compound growth rate of 2.57 per cent per annum during the period 1966-2003 and constituted about 1 per cent of the total livestock population in 2003. Amongst different constituents of equines, viz. horses, ponies, mules and donkeys, mules have shown the maximum rise in number. The contribution of equines has been assessed to be 40 per cent in the gross household income of rearers. A mule pair has been found to be highly profitable for load-carrying activities. Road links to the villages having modern means of transport have been perceived to be the greatest threat to equine-rearing activity, followed by its disliking by younger generations and nonavailability of locally-bred mules. The study has emphasized on increased supply of Chamurthi horses through identification of additional local breeders by adopting systematic breeding policy, particularly in the Pin Valley of Spiti area. Keeping in view the demand for mules, their breeding should be undertaken at both public and at private levels so that local-bred mules become available at affordable prices.Livestock Production/Industries,

Approaching graduation, the first question for every student is “Will I be able to find a job?” If they find a job, the next question will properly be “Can I perform well at work” This research investigated whether students can use what they have learned when they start work, whether there is a gap, and what gap exists between accounting education and the requirements of practice. This study aims to identify the gap of expectation, skill obtained and skills required between student and practitioners’ point of view. This will provide information to students on what areas should they be paying attention to during study, and inform educators on where gaps exist, and brief employers on areas a graduate of accounting education may lack, so focused training can be provided. A questionnaire was designed using free survey tool Qualtrics. Questions were adapted from four different sources. The survey was sent to a Wintec CBITE accounting tutor. With their consent and permission, the survey link was posted onto a Moodle page to share with Wintec CBITE students. The researcher then collected data though Qualtrics. Analysis was done though Excel. A table was created for each question. Some answers were modified to match the literature’s format of presenting their result to show a fairer and equal comparison. The researcher received a total of 26 responses.,20 of which were from accounting major students. However, only 15 out of the 20 had completed the whole questionnaire. Comparison of the results gained from this study contrast with the literature. Conclusions and recommendations are still to be made

Inelastic Phonon Scattering in Graphene FETs

Inelastic phonon scattering in graphene field-effect transistors (FETs) is studied by numerically solving the Boltzmann transport equation in three dimensional real and phase spaces (x, kx, ky). A kink behavior due to ambipolar transport agreeing with experiments is observed. While low field behavior has previously been mostly attributed to elastic impurity scattering in earlier studies, it is found in the study that even low field mobility is affected by inelastic phonon scattering in recent graphene FET experiments reporting high mobilities . As the FET is biased in the saturation regime, the average carrier injection velocity at the source end of the device is found to remain almost constant with regard to the applied gate voltage over a wide voltage range, which results in significantly improved transistor linearity compared to what a simpler model would predict. Physical mechanisms for good linearity are explained, showing the potential of graphene FETs for analogue electronics applications
