Torre Asturias Real design Musk Group
The
Asturias Real Residential Complex project is located at Avenida Carrera 14 #
37-48 Sur, in the city of Bogotá, Colombia, on a 6,911.3 m2 lot. This project
will consist of four multifamily housing towers of 11, 14, 15 and 16 effective
apartment floors, featuring four apartments per floor combining to a total of
224 apartments in the project. The thesis focused on the development of the
11-story tower, that is, a structure with approximately 44 apartments.
Regarding the detailed engineering design, related to sustainability and
socio-environmental aspects, the development of a sustainable construction is
presented which is a benchmark for both the city and the country, based on the
balance between social, economic and environmental components. The development
of sustainable constructions has presented a notable increase, not only in the
reduction of pollution, and social benefits such as the creation of comfortable
spaces, but can also present benefits at an economic level, both for the
builder and for the people who will inhabit the structure. Some of the benefits
are building operational savings, tax benefits and increased business value.
Additionally, through these constructions, it contributes to the reduction of
global warming, and the commitment of Colombia at COP21, among others. The
socio-environmental study considered the identification of the project's areas
of influence, that is, those that would be affected by the construction of the
infrastructure work. In these areas the potential effects are analyzed and
based on their evaluation, measures are proposed focused on the prevention,
mitigation, control and / or compensation of the impacts that are contemplated
in the Environmental and Social Management Plan (PMAS). One of the most important
impacts is related to the dispersion of particulate material into the
atmosphere, produced by activities such as excavation. In addition, the
generation of noise due to the use of machinery and equipment such as the
pneumatic hammer, cutting saws, dozers has also been considered. Proposals
focused on the use and reuse of water and the implementation of a green roof
were designed. In this way, the consumption of drinking water is reduced using
low consumption equipment. With the design of the green roof, a contribution is
generated to the reduction of heat islands and indoor environmental quality,
amongst others, within the framework of the LEED certification. A risk analysis
has also been carried out including threats such as earthquakes, electrical storms
and floods. To attend to these contingencies, activities and measures contained
in informational, strategic and operational plans were designed. Another
measure, focused on security and considering the current situation caused by
the global pandemic, was the formulation of a biosafety protocol where days,
hygiene measures and actions are to be recorded and defined in the event of
reporting cases of COVID-19, with the intention of ensuring the health of the
staff and their family nucleus. Lastly, a Construction and Demolition Waste
(RCD) management plan was designed, defining a percentage of 11% for its use in
the work corresponding to the 1199.4 m3 of waste generated on site. The
geotechnical area development plan was based on geological-geotechnical models
designed after terrain analysis and secondary information. As a product, the
optimal design and constructive recommendations for the foundation, containment
and stability system are presented, as well as the corresponding monitoring
system for the follow up of the work throughout their useful life.
Simultaneously, the environmental risks associated with the construction
processes were assessed concluding with the alternative to mitigation. From a
geotechnical point of view, the most important challenge faced in the
development of this project was the limited primary information available and
the validity of the soil tests in the field, information on which the
geotechnical model designs are based. The soil study provided was supplemented
by secondary information, conducted through meticulous research of nearby
projects supported by state endorsement, including the use of rock information
tables that matched the description given by geotechnical exploration. These
values compared with the analysis of the tests results and its corresponding
correlations, allowed the acquisition of the required design parameters. This
in turn allowed the development of designs which were based on a sensitivity
analysis allowing the evaluation for each of the geotechnical work proposed,
i.e., foundation and containment system, allowing us to obtain the optimal
solutions always prioritizing the safety of the structure. The development of
this calculation report focuses on the management and construction of tower 1
of the project, this being the first phase of the entire project; Constructive
proposals will be developed to carry out a better control and start-up of the
project, estimates of the time and costs necessary to carry out the general
budget of the work will be elaborated taking into account a list of basic
resources that will allow through an analysis of unit prices (APUs) estimate
costs and unit durations per established activity; in turn, they will serve as
the basis for the development of a schedule and work schedule to satisfy the
first phase of the project, which is the construction of tower 1 of said
Residential Complex. The correct analysis of the budget and final cost of the
project is based on a good implementation of adequate supplies, yields
according to projects of the same magnitude and nature, an adequate development
of unit prices, correct quantities of work and a detailed and correct planning
during the construction processes on site, which will improve the correct
estimation of times on site. The development of this project "tower 1 of
the Asturias Real Residential Complex" will create a quality reference in
the south of the city of Bogotá and be compatible with the resources available
in Colombia to build a sustainable, efficient and environmentally friendly building,
where all the areas established in the company complement each other and carry
out collaborative work. Also, the company "MUSK" proposed a combined
structural system which is the most optimal solution from a technical point of
view. In addition, from an economic perspective, we sought to provide all our
clients with a project that is functional and complies with all the
requirements of current regulations. This project is different from many
others, as it considered the smallest design details, in conjunction with
guaranteeing the salable areas of the project, and the small changes made, had
the approval of the architect. In "MUSK" collaborative work is
developed throughout the project, guaranteeing safety, quality and at the same
time effective interaction between the different branches of knowledge involved
in the building of the Asturias Real Torre 1 Residential Complex. One of the
great challenges, that arose in the development of the project, was the design
of the piles, as those working on structures and geotechnics at first had
different considerations and concepts, for which there was the need to make
changes in both parties designs in order to converge to the same design that
was optimal, viable and acceptable for both. The development of this project
"Asturias Real Residential Complex, Tower 1" will create a quality
benchmark in the south of the city of Bogotá and be compatible with the
resources available in Colombia to build a sustainable, efficient, and
environmentally friendly building, where all areas in the company complement
each other and facilitate collaborative work. In addition to, Asturias Real
residential tower detailed engineering project had diverse challenges regarding
its hydrotechnical and sanitary design, in which challenges were resolved so
that the project could be developed according to engineering solutions
considering economic aspects. Firstly, the socioeconomical aspect surrounding
the project was taken into account because the water supply required, depended
directly on the previously mentioned aspect, therefore determining the design
solutions that had to be made. Also, considering that one of the main
objectives of the project was to achieve a sustainable engineered design, a
green rooftop was proposed, and both an irrigation and drainage system was
designed. Finally, the design had to factor in a whole potable water
distribution network that would guarantee the correct supply of water resources
on all floors of the building whilst considering all the potable water needs of
the project's inhabitants. Likewise, the sanitary drainage network was designed
considering the correct transport of wastewater and evaluating its correct
handling. It was important to provide a drainage solution to the project's
containment structures to maintain the conditions of the slope and avoid
possible future construction disasters. The differentiating aspect in the
hydrotechnical design area of the project was the development of a design with
characteristics of sustainability but at the same time saving water and money.
A network was proposed for the reuse of sewage

Clonal chromosomal mosaicism and loss of chromosome Y in elderly men increase vulnerability for SARS-CoV-2
The pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2, COVID-19) had an estimated overall case fatality ratio of 1.38% (pre-vaccination), being 53% higher in males and increasing exponentially with age. Among 9578 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 in the SCOURGE study, we found 133 cases (1.42%) with detectable clonal mosaicism for chromosome alterations (mCA) and 226 males (5.08%) with acquired loss of chromosome Y (LOY). Individuals with clonal mosaic events (mCA and/or LOY) showed a 54% increase in the risk of COVID-19 lethality. LOY is associated with transcriptomic biomarkers of immune dysfunction, pro-coagulation activity and cardiovascular risk. Interferon-induced genes involved in the initial immune response to SARS-CoV-2 are also down-regulated in LOY. Thus, mCA and LOY underlie at least part of the sex-biased severity and mortality of COVID-19 in aging patients. Given its potential therapeutic and prognostic relevance, evaluation of clonal mosaicism should be implemented as biomarker of COVID-19 severity in elderly people. Among 9578 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 in the SCOURGE study, individuals with clonal mosaic events (clonal mosaicism for chromosome alterations and/or loss of chromosome Y) showed an increased risk of COVID-19 lethality
The evolution of the ventilatory ratio is a prognostic factor in mechanically ventilated COVID-19 ARDS patients
Background: Mortality due to COVID-19 is high, especially in patients requiring mechanical ventilation. The purpose of the study is to investigate associations between mortality and variables measured during the first three days of mechanical ventilation in patients with COVID-19 intubated at ICU admission. Methods: Multicenter, observational, cohort study includes consecutive patients with COVID-19 admitted to 44 Spanish ICUs between February 25 and July 31, 2020, who required intubation at ICU admission and mechanical ventilation for more than three days. We collected demographic and clinical data prior to admission; information about clinical evolution at days 1 and 3 of mechanical ventilation; and outcomes. Results: Of the 2,095 patients with COVID-19 admitted to the ICU, 1,118 (53.3%) were intubated at day 1 and remained under mechanical ventilation at day three. From days 1 to 3, PaO2/FiO2 increased from 115.6 [80.0-171.2] to 180.0 [135.4-227.9] mmHg and the ventilatory ratio from 1.73 [1.33-2.25] to 1.96 [1.61-2.40]. In-hospital mortality was 38.7%. A higher increase between ICU admission and day 3 in the ventilatory ratio (OR 1.04 [CI 1.01-1.07], p = 0.030) and creatinine levels (OR 1.05 [CI 1.01-1.09], p = 0.005) and a lower increase in platelet counts (OR 0.96 [CI 0.93-1.00], p = 0.037) were independently associated with a higher risk of death. No association between mortality and the PaO2/FiO2 variation was observed (OR 0.99 [CI 0.95 to 1.02], p = 0.47). Conclusions: Higher ventilatory ratio and its increase at day 3 is associated with mortality in patients with COVID-19 receiving mechanical ventilation at ICU admission. No association was found in the PaO2/FiO2 variation
Autoantibodies neutralizing type I IFNs are present in ~4% of uninfected individuals over 70 years old and account for ~20% of COVID-19 deaths
Publisher Copyright: © 2021 The Authors, some rights reserved.Circulating autoantibodies (auto-Abs) neutralizing high concentrations (10 ng/ml; in plasma diluted 1:10) of IFN-alpha and/or IFN-omega are found in about 10% of patients with critical COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) pneumonia but not in individuals with asymptomatic infections. We detect auto-Abs neutralizing 100-fold lower, more physiological, concentrations of IFN-alpha and/or IFN-omega (100 pg/ml; in 1:10 dilutions of plasma) in 13.6% of 3595 patients with critical COVID-19, including 21% of 374 patients >80 years, and 6.5% of 522 patients with severe COVID-19. These antibodies are also detected in 18% of the 1124 deceased patients (aged 20 days to 99 years; mean: 70 years). Moreover, another 1.3% of patients with critical COVID-19 and 0.9% of the deceased patients have auto-Abs neutralizing high concentrations of IFN-beta. We also show, in a sample of 34,159 uninfected individuals from the general population, that auto-Abs neutralizing high concentrations of IFN-alpha and/or IFN-omega are present in 0.18% of individuals between 18 and 69 years, 1.1% between 70 and 79 years, and 3.4% >80 years. Moreover, the proportion of individuals carrying auto-Abs neutralizing lower concentrations is greater in a subsample of 10,778 uninfected individuals: 1% of individuals 80 years. By contrast, auto-Abs neutralizing IFN-beta do not become more frequent with age. Auto-Abs neutralizing type I IFNs predate SARS-CoV-2 infection and sharply increase in prevalence after the age of 70 years.

Repositioning of the global epicentre of non-optimal cholesterol
High blood cholesterol is typically considered a feature of wealthy western countries(1,2). However, dietary and behavioural determinants of blood cholesterol are changing rapidly throughout the world(3) and countries are using lipid-lowering medications at varying rates. These changes can have distinct effects on the levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and non-HDL cholesterol, which have different effects on human health(4,5). However, the trends of HDL and non-HDL cholesterol levels over time have not been previously reported in a global analysis. Here we pooled 1,127 population-based studies that measured blood lipids in 102.6 million individuals aged 18 years and older to estimate trends from 1980 to 2018 in mean total, non-HDL and HDL cholesterol levels for 200 countries. Globally, there was little change in total or non-HDL cholesterol from 1980 to 2018. This was a net effect of increases in low- and middle-income countries, especially in east and southeast Asia, and decreases in high-income western countries, especially those in northwestern Europe, and in central and eastern Europe. As a result, countries with the highest level of non-HDL cholesterol-which is a marker of cardiovascular riskchanged from those in western Europe such as Belgium, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and Malta in 1980 to those in Asia and the Pacific, such as Tokelau, Malaysia, The Philippines and Thailand. In 2017, high non-HDL cholesterol was responsible for an estimated 3.9 million (95% credible interval 3.7 million-4.2 million) worldwide deaths, half of which occurred in east, southeast and south Asia. The global repositioning of lipid-related risk, with non-optimal cholesterol shifting from a distinct feature of high-income countries in northwestern Europe, north America and Australasia to one that affects countries in east and southeast Asia and Oceania should motivate the use of population-based policies and personal interventions to improve nutrition and enhance access to treatment throughout the world.Peer reviewe
The risk of COVID-19 death is much greater and age dependent with type I IFN autoantibodies
SignificanceThere is growing evidence that preexisting autoantibodies neutralizing type I interferons (IFNs) are strong determinants of life-threatening COVID-19 pneumonia. It is important to estimate their quantitative impact on COVID-19 mortality upon SARS-CoV-2 infection, by age and sex, as both the prevalence of these autoantibodies and the risk of COVID-19 death increase with age and are higher in men. Using an unvaccinated sample of 1,261 deceased patients and 34,159 individuals from the general population, we found that autoantibodies against type I IFNs strongly increased the SARS-CoV-2 infection fatality rate at all ages, in both men and women. Autoantibodies against type I IFNs are strong and common predictors of life-threatening COVID-19. Testing for these autoantibodies should be considered in the general population
