    Methodological Issues in Experimental Research

    As a History it is important to know that Bombay University was the first to start the M.Ed. course in 1936. Also the Bombay University was the first to introduce Ph.D. in Education in 1941 and it awarded the first Ph.D. degree in Education in 1943. The Lucknow University was the next to award Ph.D. degree in Education in 1949. Jangira and Sharma (1974) reported that the first Experimental study was conducted by Javli in 1949. Most of the Experimental studies were conducted in areas, like, Microteaching, Programmed Learning, Models of Teaching, etc. On the basis of findings of Experimental studies conducted in various Universities, it was decided to make Microteaching and Models of Teaching as part of B.Ed. curriculum. Till 2009 researchers were allowed to pursue their research to get Ph.D. degree in Education without undergoing any pre- Ph.D. course in Research Methodology. But looking to the quality of research in Education and other subjects, University Grants Commission, New Delhi made pre- Ph.D. course in Research Methodology compulsory. Now it is hoped that the quality of Research in Education and other subjects will improve. I personally feel that the quality of Research in Education on the whole is on the decline. Further even the quality of pre-Ph.D. course as well as teaching is of poor quality

    Examination is a part and parcel of Teaching-Learning Process. In examination or tests different types of question are asked by teachers. These are Essay, Short Answer, Multiple Choice, Fill-in the Blanks, and Matching Types. These are not very suitable for Open Book Examination. Multiple Answers Type Items in Research Methodology were developed for the research. It is a new type of question which can be used by school, College and University teachers irrespective of the subject taught by them. The objective of this research was to study the influence of Discipline, Gender and their interaction on Performance of participants on Multiple Answers Type Items in Research Methodology. The Hypothesis formulated in null form was there is no significant influence of Discipline, Gender and their interaction on Performance of participants on Multiple Answers Type Items in Research Methodology. This study was conducted on Sample of 423 Deans, Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, Research Fellows and Postgraduate students from 26 states and six countries. Data were collected online using WhatsApp and emails during Covid-19 period. The findings were: (1) Social Science participants were found to have better understanding of Research Methodology than Science as well as Humanities participants. Further Science as well as Humanities participants were found to similar understanding of Research Methodology. (2) Male and Female Participants were found to perform equally well on Multiple Answers Type Items in Research Methodology. (3) Performance on Multiple Answers Type Items in Research Methodology was found to be independent of interaction between Discipline and Gender of Participants

    On the exponential metric increasing

    The metric increasing property of the exponential map is known to be equivalent to the fact that the set of positive definite matrices is a Riemannian manifold of nonpositive curvature. We show that this property is an easy consequence of the logarithmic-geometric mean inequality for positive numbers. Operator versions of this inequality lead to a generalisation of the exponential metric increasing property to all Schatten-von Neumann norms.

    Effect of Compatible and Incompatible Endophytic Bacteria on Growth of Chickpea Plant

    Chickpea is one of the important pulse crops among legumes due to its high protein content. During the last few decades chickpea production has declined because of various biotic and abiotic factors. To increase its production farmers are relying on the traditional methods (using chemical fertilizers) that pollute the environment. An alternative to chemical fertilizers is the eco-friendly process of endophytic inoculation. Compatible endophytic coinoculations improve plant growth as compared to single inoculation due to the synergistic performance of the constituent bacteria. In the current study, the compatibility of six bacterial inoculants (BM5 (rhizobial), BP2 and P36 (phosphate solubiliser), RE2, HE8, and ME9 (other endophytes) was tested. Among these bacterial inoculants, endophyte ME9 was found to be compatible with phosphate solubilising bacteria (P36) and rhizobial culture BM5. However, the endophytic bacteria RE2 and HE8 were found to be incompatible with phosphate solubilising bacteria and rhizobial bacteria. Further, individual inoculation, combined compatible and combined incompatible inoculants were applied to chickpea seeds in the pot house experiment. The results revealed that among all the inoculations, compatible bacterial consortia (ME9, P36 and BM5) produced highest increase in shoot (225%) and root dry weight (600 %) and grain weight (250 % ) compared to the control group. The incompatible inoculations were ineffective in improving the root dry weight, shoot dry weight, and grain weight in comparison to the respective individual inoculations

    Abstract Sclerosing stromal tumor (SST) is an extremely rare and benign ovarian neoplasm of the sex cord stromal category which occurs predominantly in the second and third decades of life. Herein, we report a case of sclerosing stromal tumor of ovary in a 22 year old woman who was clinically suspected to have malignancy, but proven to be SST of ovary on histopathological examination. Hence, in such circumstances it is essential to keep in mind the possibility of sclerosing stromal tumor in a young woman

    Measurement of the Bottom-Strange Meson Mixing Phase in the Full CDF Data Set

    We report a measurement of the bottom-strange meson mixing phase \beta_s using the time evolution of B0_s -> J/\psi (->\mu+\mu-) \phi (-> K+ K-) decays in which the quark-flavor content of the bottom-strange meson is identified at production. This measurement uses the full data set of proton-antiproton collisions at sqrt(s)= 1.96 TeV collected by the Collider Detector experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron, corresponding to 9.6 fb-1 of integrated luminosity. We report confidence regions in the two-dimensional space of \beta_s and the B0_s decay-width difference \Delta\Gamma_s, and measure \beta_s in [-\pi/2, -1.51] U [-0.06, 0.30] U [1.26, \pi/2] at the 68% confidence level, in agreement with the standard model expectation. Assuming the standard model value of \beta_s, we also determine \Delta\Gamma_s = 0.068 +- 0.026 (stat) +- 0.009 (syst) ps-1 and the mean B0_s lifetime, \tau_s = 1.528 +- 0.019 (stat) +- 0.009 (syst) ps, which are consistent and competitive with determinations by other experiments.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures, Phys.     57-64Physico-chemical studies of some aqueous surfactant solutions were carried out by employing conductance, surface tension and spectrofluorometric techniques. From conductivity and surface tension measurements, critical micelle concentration (CMC), counter-ion association (α), equivalent conductance at infinite dilution (٨0), surface excess concentration (), minimum area per molecule (Amin), surface pressure at CMC ( CMC), thermodynamic properties of micellization (Gºmic, Hºmic, Sºmic) and adsorption (Gºads, Hºads and Sºads) have been obtained for an anionic [bis (2-ethylhexyl) sulphosuccinate sodium salt (AOT)], a cationic [cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB)] and a nonionic [polyethylene (23) lauryl ether (Brij-35)] surfactant solutions. Effect of mixing co-solutes (dioxane and glycerol) on the physico-chemical properties of surfactant systems at 298.15, 308.15 and 318.15 K has been investigated.
