Proportions - disposition relationship analysis of a historical truss in a rural house in Vápenná Village, Czech Republic

    Get PDF
We have analysed historical trusses based on previous building-historical researches, particularly focusing on sacral buildings, in chosen regions of Slovakia, with one of the primary goals to examine geometric concepts and proportional relationships used for their construction. The knowledge of proportional principles and relationships used in various historical sacral trusses, additionally supported by contemporary literature, was applied to a village house truss from 1774 in Vapenna, Jeseniky district of the Czech Republic.Web of Science12211511

Pro porovnání účinků BR a LR na markery metabolismu a oxidačního stresu byly biologické aktivity zkoumány in vitro na buňkách lidského hepatoblastomu (HepG2), fibroblastu (MRC5)...Phototherapy (PT) with blue-green light (420-490 nm) is the standard treatment for severe neonatal jaundice to prevent infants from toxic bilirubin (BR). Upon blue-green light exposure, BR is converted to more polar photoisomer (PI) lumirubin (LR) and the other oxidation products (mono-, di-, tripyrrols) which can be more easily disposed of the body via urine and/or bile. Although generally considered to be safe, PT is accompanied by an increased risk of various pathophysiological conditions (inflammatory processes, allergies, diabetes, and some types of cancer), in extremely low-birth-weight newborns. Thus, to account for these consequences, our study aimed to understand the mechanism of BR secretion in different tissues and cell lines and investigate the bioactive properties of BR and its main photooxidation product LR. At first, we focused on the detection of BR in the bile and feces of hyperbilirubinemic Gunn rats. Simultaneously, we tested the antioxidant and pro-oxidant effects of unconjugated BR in human hepatoblastoma (HepG2), proximal tubular (HK2), neuroblastoma (SH-SY5Y), and murine endothelial (H5V) cells by exposing them to progressively increasing concentrations of BR. To compare the BR and LR effects on metabolic and oxidative stress markers, the biological activities were...Ústav lékařské biochemie a laboratorní diagnostiky 1. Approaches to a “new" World Literature

The history of written Romani literature is only about 100 years old, and thus Romani literatures are still being defined and consolidated. At least two special features characterize this young literature: on the one hand, it is a multilingual diasporic world literature that often can be characterized as engaged literature and tries to deconstruct various age-old stereotypes of the minority. On the other hand, female authors play a strikingly prominent role. Female authors frequently achieve visibility with their texts on the national book markets. Some authors appear in their own texts as committed feminists and/or human rights activists. For other authors, sexuality and gender play a less prominent role in their works. Additionally, women often also play very central roles in texts by male authors. Therefore, this volume aims to explore the different facets of Romani literatures on two interrelated axes. First, the essays explore the status of several diverse works as transnational world literature. Second, the contributions examine the significance of writing as a form of social engagement and self-empowerment. What emerges is the observation that mainly women authors have been speaking out and standing up for their rights as women and Romnya

Carrageenan as an Ecological Alternative of Polyvinylidene Difluoride Binder for Li-S Batteries

Lithium-sulfur batteries are one of the most promising battery systems nowadays. However, this system is still not suitable for practical application because of the number of shortcomings that limit its cycle life. One of the main problems related to this system is the volumetric change during cycling. This deficiency can be compensated by using the appropriate binder. In this article, we present the influence of a water-soluble binder carrageenan on the electrochemical properties of the Li-S battery. The electrode with a carrageenan binder provides good stability during cycling and at high C-rates. Electrochemical testing was also carried out with a small prototype pouch cell with a capacity of 16 mAh. This prototype pouch cell with the water-based carrageenan binder showed lower self-discharge and low capacity drop. Capacity decreased by 7% after 70 cycles

Heterogeneous contributions of change in population distribution of body mass index to change in obesity and underweight NCD Risk Factor Collaboration (NCD-RisC)

From 1985 to 2016, the prevalence of underweight decreased, and that of obesity and severe obesity increased, in most regions, with significant variation in the magnitude of these changes across regions. We investigated how much change in mean body mass index (BMI) explains changes in the prevalence of underweight, obesity, and severe obesity in different regions using data from 2896 population-based studies with 187 million participants. Changes in the prevalence of underweight and total obesity, and to a lesser extent severe obesity, are largely driven by shifts in the distribution of BMI, with smaller contributions from changes in the shape of the distribution. In East and Southeast Asia and sub-Saharan Africa, the underweight tail of the BMI distribution was left behind as the distribution shifted. There is a need for policies that address all forms of malnutrition by making healthy foods accessible and affordable, while restricting unhealthy foods through fiscal and regulatory restrictions
