J/psi Pair Production at the Tevatron
The double J/psi production in p\bar{p} collision is revisited. It is found
that the J/\psi pair production rate at leading order with p_T > 4 GeV in
conventional scheme is larger than the rate derived from color-octet mechanism
by a factor of five. As the double J/psi production is shown to be attainable
with data yet collected at the Tevatron detectors, experimental study on it
would be helpful to clarify the validity of the conventional color-singlet

Calculating rutting of some thin flexible pavements from repeated load triaxial test data
This paper describes parts of a Nordic pavement performance prediction model study (at the project level of the NordFoU project) where a material performance model, developed at VTT research centre in Finland, has been selected as a mean of calculating the permanently accumulated (plastic) deformation (i.e. rutting) of unbound granular materials (UGMs) in flexible pavements subjected to trafficking. The paper aims to assess the suitability of this VTT model application to Swedish roads comprising thin asphalt layers over a thick UGM base. To achieve this, the VTT model has been used to calculate the deformations of two tested road sections in Sweden. These calculations have been compared with another permanent deformation model for UGM (the Gidel model) and with rutting measurements from trafficked pavements. It is shown from this study that the applied rutting prediction method with VTT model is capable of predicting the development of rutting depth despite some overestimations
Revisiting the -Meson Production at the Hadronic Colliders
The production of heavy-flavored hadron at the hadronic colliders provides a
challenging opportunity to test the validity of pQCD predictions. There are two
mechanisms for the hadroproduction, i.e. the gluon-gluon fusion
mechanism via the subprocess and the
extrinsic heavy quark mechanism via the subprocesses and , both of which shall have sizable
contributions in proper kinematic region. Different from the
fixed-flavor-number scheme (FFNS) previously adopted in the literature, we
study the hadroproduction under the general-mass
variable-flavor-number scheme (GM-VFNS), in which we can consistently deal with
the double counting problem from the above two mechanisms. Properties for the
hadroproduction are discussed. To be useful reference, a
comparative study of FFNS and GM-VFNS is presented. Both of which can provide
reasonable estimations for the hadroproduction. At the Tevatron,
the difference between these two schemes is small, however such difference is
obvious at the LHC. The forthcoming more precise data on LHC shall provide a
good chance to check which scheme is more appropriate to deal with the
-meson production and to further study the heavy quark components in
hadrons.Comment: 18 pages, 8 figures, 4 tables. To match the published version. To be

Heavy quarkonium: progress, puzzles, and opportunities
A golden age for heavy quarkonium physics dawned a decade ago, initiated by
the confluence of exciting advances in quantum chromodynamics (QCD) and an
explosion of related experimental activity. The early years of this period were
chronicled in the Quarkonium Working Group (QWG) CERN Yellow Report (YR) in
2004, which presented a comprehensive review of the status of the field at that
time and provided specific recommendations for further progress. However, the
broad spectrum of subsequent breakthroughs, surprises, and continuing puzzles
could only be partially anticipated. Since the release of the YR, the BESII
program concluded only to give birth to BESIII; the -factories and CLEO-c
flourished; quarkonium production and polarization measurements at HERA and the
Tevatron matured; and heavy-ion collisions at RHIC have opened a window on the
deconfinement regime. All these experiments leave legacies of quality,
precision, and unsolved mysteries for quarkonium physics, and therefore beg for
continuing investigations. The plethora of newly-found quarkonium-like states
unleashed a flood of theoretical investigations into new forms of matter such
as quark-gluon hybrids, mesonic molecules, and tetraquarks. Measurements of the
spectroscopy, decays, production, and in-medium behavior of c\bar{c}, b\bar{b},
and b\bar{c} bound states have been shown to validate some theoretical
approaches to QCD and highlight lack of quantitative success for others. The
intriguing details of quarkonium suppression in heavy-ion collisions that have
emerged from RHIC have elevated the importance of separating hot- and
cold-nuclear-matter effects in quark-gluon plasma studies. This review
systematically addresses all these matters and concludes by prioritizing
directions for ongoing and future efforts.Comment: 182 pages, 112 figures. Editors: N. Brambilla, S. Eidelman, B. K.

Study of J/Psi decays into eta Kstar Kstar-bar
We report the first observation of \mPJpsi \to \mPeta\mPKst\mAPKst decay in
a \mPJpsi sample of 58 million events collected with the BESII detector. The
branching fraction is determined to be . The selected signal event sample is further used to search for the
\mPY resonance through \mPJpsi \to \mPeta \mPY, \mPY\to\mPKst\mAPKst. No
evidence of a signal is seen. An upper limit of \mathrm{Br}(\mPJpsi \to \mPeta
\mPY)\cdot\mathrm{Br}(\mPY\to\mPKst\mAPKst) < 2.52\times 10^{-4} is set at the
90% confidence level.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figure
Urban coral reefs: Degradation and resilience of hard coral assemblages in coastal cities of East and Southeast Asia
© 2018 The Author(s) Given predicted increases in urbanization in tropical and subtropical regions, understanding the processes shaping urban coral reefs may be essential for anticipating future conservation challenges. We used a case study approach to identify unifying patterns of urban coral reefs and clarify the effects of urbanization on hard coral assemblages. Data were compiled from 11 cities throughout East and Southeast Asia, with particular focus on Singapore, Jakarta, Hong Kong, and Naha (Okinawa). Our review highlights several key characteristics of urban coral reefs, including “reef compression” (a decline in bathymetric range with increasing turbidity and decreasing water clarity over time and relative to shore), dominance by domed coral growth forms and low reef complexity, variable city-specific inshore-offshore gradients, early declines in coral cover with recent fluctuating periods of acute impacts and rapid recovery, and colonization of urban infrastructure by hard corals. We present hypotheses for urban reef community dynamics and discuss potential of ecological engineering for corals in urban areas
Search for the Xb and other hidden-beauty states in the π+π−ϒ(1S) channel at ATLAS
This Letter presents a search for a hidden-beauty counterpart of the X(3872) in the mass ranges of 10.05–10.31 GeV and 10.40–11.00 GeV, in the channel Xb→π+π−ϒ(1S)(→μ+μ−), using 16.2 fb−1 of pp collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. No evidence for new narrow states is found, and upper limits are set on the product of the Xb cross section and branching fraction, relative to those of the ϒ(2S), at the 95% confidence level using the CLS approach. These limits range from 0.8% to 4.0%, depending on mass. For masses above 10.1 GeV, the expected upper limits from this analysis are the most restrictive to date. Searches for production of the ϒ(13DJ), , and states also reveal no significant signals
Using the longman mini-concordancer on tagged and parsed corpora, with special reference to their use as an aid to grammar learning
This paper presents methods to use the Longman Mini-Concordancer on tagged and parsed corpora, rather than plain text corpora. Several aspects are discussed with models to be applied in the classroom as an aid to grammar learning, which creates a more student-centred and data-driven study style. The exercises suggested in the paper are suitable for teaching English to both native and non-native speakers. At the same time, the tagged and parsed corpora are also rich resources for teachers to prepare lessons with appropriate examples. Copyrigh
