Search for supersymmetry in events with four or more leptons in √s =13 TeV pp collisions with ATLAS

    Get PDF
Results from a search for supersymmetry in events with four or more charged leptons (electrons, muons and taus) are presented. The analysis uses a data sample corresponding to 36.1 fb −1 of proton-proton collisions delivered by the Large Hadron Collider at s √ =13 TeV and recorded by the ATLAS detector. Four-lepton signal regions with up to two hadronically decaying taus are designed to target a range of supersymmetric scenarios that can be either enriched in or depleted of events involving the production and decay of a Z boson. Data yields are consistent with Standard Model expectations and results are used to set upper limits on the event yields from processes beyond the Standard Model. Exclusion limits are set at the 95% confidence level in simplified models of General Gauge Mediated supersymmetry, where higgsino masses are excluded up to 295 GeV. In R -parity-violating simplified models with decays of the lightest supersymmetric particle to charged leptons, lower limits of 1.46 TeV, 1.06 TeV, and 2.25 TeV are placed on wino, slepton and gluino masses, respectively

    Search for Wâ€Č→tb→qqbbW' \rightarrow tb \rightarrow qqbb W â€Č → t b → q q b b decays in pppp p p collisions at s\sqrt{s} s  = 8 TeV with the ATLAS detector

A search for a massive Wâ€Č gauge boson decaying to a top quark and a bottom quark is performed with the ATLAS detector in pp collisions at the LHC. The dataset was taken at a centre-of-mass energy of s√=8 TeVs=8 TeV and corresponds to 20.3 fb −120.3 fb −1 of integrated luminosity. This analysis is done in the hadronic decay mode of the top quark, where novel jet substructure techniques are used to identify jets from high-momentum top quarks. This allows for a search for high-mass Wâ€Č bosons in the range 1.5–3.0 TeV TeV. bb-tagging is used to identify jets originating from bb-quarks. The data are consistent with Standard Model background-only expectations, and upper limits at 95 % confidence level are set on the Wâ€Č→tbWâ€Č→tb cross section times branching ratio ranging from 0.16pb0.16pb to 0.33pb0.33pb for left-handed Wâ€ČWâ€Č bosons, and ranging from 0.10pb0.10pb to 0.21pb0.21pb for Wâ€Č bosons with purely right-handed couplings. Upper limits at 95 % confidence level are set on the Wâ€Č-boson coupling to tb as a function of the Wâ€Č mass using an effective field theory approach, which is independent of details of particular models predicting a Wâ€Č boson

Search for lepton flavour violating decays of a neutral heavy Higgs boson to Ότ and eτ in proton-proton collisions at s√ = 13 TeV

    Get PDF
A search for lepton flavour violating decays of a neutral non-standard-model Higgs boson in the Ότ and eτ decay modes is presented. The search is based on proton-proton collisions at a center of mass energy s√ = 13 TeV collected with the CMS detector in 2016, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. The τ leptons are reconstructed in the leptonic and hadronic decay modes. No signal is observed in the mass range 200–900 GeV. At 95% confidence level, the observed (expected) upper limits on the production cross section multiplied by the branching fraction vary from 51.9 (57.4) fb to 1.6 (2.1) fb for the Ότ and from 94.1 (91.6) fb to 2.3 (2.3) fb for the eτ decay modes
