Efecto de la densidad de población sobre algunas características agronómicas y fisiológicas de tres genotipos de soya, Glycine max (L.) Merr., bajo condiciones tropicales.

El ensayo se realizó con las variedades Hill, de porte bajo y crecimiento determinado, 201-3-2-M, de porte medio y crecimiento semi-determinado y Pelican SM-ICA, de porte alto y crecimiento semi-determinado. Estos genotipos se compararon en 6 poblaciones diferentes: 833333, 416666, 276666, 208333, 166666 y 183333 plantas/ha. Las 3 variedades interceptaron mayor porcentaje de luz con el incremento de la población. La intercepción máxima en Pelican SM-ICA fue similar en todas las poblaciones. El índice de área foliar se incrementó con el aumento de la densidad de siembra. La variedad Pelican SM-ICA presentó el mayor índice de área foliar, el menor índice correspondió a la variedad Hill. Los mayores incrementos de producción de materia seca se encontraron en los estados de formación de vainas y llenado del grano. La habilidad de la variedad Hill para producir altos rendimientos sugiere que variedades de crecimiento similar sean un objetivo de mejoramiento para las condiciones del Valle del Cauca. Al aumentar la población se incrementó la altura de la planta, la altura de carga y el grado de volcamiento, y disminuyó el número de ramas por planta. Impact of COVID-19 on cardiovascular testing in the United States versus the rest of the world

Objectives: This study sought to quantify and compare the decline in volumes of cardiovascular procedures between the United States and non-US institutions during the early phase of the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the care of many non-COVID-19 illnesses. Reductions in diagnostic cardiovascular testing around the world have led to concerns over the implications of reduced testing for cardiovascular disease (CVD) morbidity and mortality. Methods: Data were submitted to the INCAPS-COVID (International Atomic Energy Agency Non-Invasive Cardiology Protocols Study of COVID-19), a multinational registry comprising 909 institutions in 108 countries (including 155 facilities in 40 U.S. states), assessing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on volumes of diagnostic cardiovascular procedures. Data were obtained for April 2020 and compared with volumes of baseline procedures from March 2019. We compared laboratory characteristics, practices, and procedure volumes between U.S. and non-U.S. facilities and between U.S. geographic regions and identified factors associated with volume reduction in the United States. Results: Reductions in the volumes of procedures in the United States were similar to those in non-U.S. facilities (68% vs. 63%, respectively; p = 0.237), although U.S. facilities reported greater reductions in invasive coronary angiography (69% vs. 53%, respectively; p < 0.001). Significantly more U.S. facilities reported increased use of telehealth and patient screening measures than non-U.S. facilities, such as temperature checks, symptom screenings, and COVID-19 testing. Reductions in volumes of procedures differed between U.S. regions, with larger declines observed in the Northeast (76%) and Midwest (74%) than in the South (62%) and West (44%). Prevalence of COVID-19, staff redeployments, outpatient centers, and urban centers were associated with greater reductions in volume in U.S. facilities in a multivariable analysis. Conclusions: We observed marked reductions in U.S. cardiovascular testing in the early phase of the pandemic and significant variability between U.S. regions. The association between reductions of volumes and COVID-19 prevalence in the United States highlighted the need for proactive efforts to maintain access to cardiovascular testing in areas most affected by outbreaks of COVID-19 infection

El Congreso ofreció un espacio para la presentación, difusión e intercambio de importantes investigaciones nacionales e internacionales ante la comunidad universitaria que se dio cita en el encuentro. El uso de herramientas tecnológicas para la gestión de los trabajos de investigación como la plataforma Open Conference Systems y la web de presentación del Congreso http://citis.blog.ups.edu.ec/, hicieron de CITIS 2017 un verdadero referente entre los congresos que se desarrollaron en el país. La preocupación de nuestra Universidad, de presentar espacios que ayuden a generar nuevos y mejores cambios en la dimensión humana y social de nuestro entorno, hace que se persiga en cada edición del evento la presentación de trabajos con calidad creciente en cuanto a su producción científica. Physico-chemical and sensory analysis of fresh cheese with replacement of milk fat by avocado lipids (Persea americana Mill V. Hass)

A current trend in cheese making is to substitute milk fat for its high content of saturated fatty acids (SFA), with lipids of vegetable origin and avocado for its high content of unsaturated fatty acids (AGI) mainly oleic acid and phytosterols. (campesterol, β-Sitosterol), has been valued by promoting healthy benefits to the consumer. The objective of this study was to evaluate with judges the liking or dislike of the cheeses made with fat replacement and to analyze the texture profile (TPA). The cheeses elaborated with three levels of avocado pulp were analyzed by means of a 5point hedonic test with 109 judges and the analysis of texture profile with texturometer model TA-XT2i. The T4 with the 18% added pulp was the one liked most according to the DMS test when determining the acceptance of the cheeses, although no differences were found between the T3 and the T4; the T2 was the least liked product. In the texture profile analysis, significant differences were found with respect to the control; the avocado pulp as a substitute for fat in the cheeses generated low values in the textural parameters, the cheeses retain high humidity and low fat content, obtaining a crumbly product, due to the modification of the casein matrix which is the one that gives rigidity to the cheeses.Una tendencia actual en la elaboración de quesos es sustituir la grasa láctea por su alto contenido de ácidos grasos saturados (AGS), con lípidos de origen vegetal y el aguacate por su alto contenido de ácidos grasos insaturados(AGI), principalmente, el ácido oleico y fitosteroles (campesterol, β- Sitosterol), ha sido valorado al promover beneficios saludables al consumidor. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar, con jueces, el agrado o desagrado, mediante prueba hedónica, los quesos elaborados con sustitución de grasa y analizar el perfil de textura (TPA). Se analizaron los quesos elaborados con tres niveles de pulpa, mediante prueba hedónica de 5 puntos, con 109 jueces y el análisis de perfil de textura con texturometro, modelo TA-XT2i. El T4, con el 18% de pulpa adicionada, fue el que más agradó, de acuerdo con la prueba DMS, al determinar la aceptación de los quesos, aunque no se encontró diferencias entre el T3 y el T4 y, el T2, el que menos gustó. En el análisis de perfil de textura, se encontró diferencias significativas respecto al control; la pulpa de aguacate, como sustituto de grasa en los quesos, generó bajos valores en los parámetros texturales; los quesos retienen alta humedad y bajo contenido de grasa, obteniendo un producto desmoronable, debido a la modificación de la matriz de la caseína, que es la que da rigidez a los quesos.Incluye referencias bibliográfica

The database of the PREDICTS (Projecting Responses of Ecological Diversity In Changing Terrestrial Systems) project

The PREDICTS project—Projecting Responses of Ecological Diversity In Changing Terrestrial Systems (www.predicts.org.uk)—has collated from published studies a large, reasonably representative database of comparable samples of biodiversity from multiple sites that differ in the nature or intensity of human impacts relating to land use. We have used this evidence base to develop global and regional statistical models of how local biodiversity responds to these measures. We describe and make freely available this 2016 release of the database, containing more than 3.2 million records sampled at over 26,000 locations and representing over 47,000 species. We outline how the database can help in answering a range of questions in ecology and conservation biology. To our knowledge, this is the largest and most geographically and taxonomically representative database of spatial comparisons of biodiversity that has been collated to date; it will be useful to researchers and international efforts wishing to model and understand the global status of biodiversity
