    DYNAMIC CONSTRUCTION CONTROL METHOD FOR A DEEP FOUNDATION PIT WITH SAND-PEBBLE GEOLOGY

    Taking the water-rich sand and pebble geology deep foundation pit of Jinfu Station of Chengdu Metro Line 6 as the research object, combined with the ladder excavation method of slotting, utilizing finite difference software FLAC 3D as well as on-site monitoring result, the deformation law of the diaphragm wall during the dynamic excavation of the foundation pit is analysed, and the influence of the relative stiffness between the vertical and horizontal walls of the foundation pit on the lateral deformation of the retaining structure is discussed. The results show that while using the ladder excavation method of slotting, the maximum lateral displacement of the underground diaphragm walls decreases gradually with the excavation depth of the foundation pit, which occurs at the intersection of the middle point of the oblique excavation line and the step distance section of the transverse excavation. Additionally, the lateral displacement increases closer to the excavation section. The lateral displacement of the envelope enclosure mainly depends on the relative constraint stiffness of the vertical and horizontal underground diaphragm wall of the foundation pit. The use of the ladder layered excavation method of slotting can effectively reduce the lateral displacement of the underground diaphragm wall. The simulated result and on-site monitoring result are nearly the same. These results can provide a corresponding theory and engineering basis for the selection of excavation methods for the same type of sand and pebble stratum foundation pit

    Deformation rule of bored pile & steel support for deep foundation pit in sandy pebble geology

    Regarding the whole excavation process of the support system of the Southwest Jiaotong University Station of Chengdu Metro Line 6 (the deep foundation pit bored pile + steel support and support system) as the engineering background, this paper studies the deformation rule of the deep foundation pit bored pile + steel support of the sandy pebble foundation. The deformation rule of this support system, the settlement rule of the ground surface outside the pit, and the rule of the uplift of the loose at the bottom of the pit are studied. A key analysis of the positive corner of the foundation pit is conducted, and the rationality of the optimization of the support scheme is evaluated. This paper provides effective guidance for the subsequent deep foundation pit construction and provides a reference for deep foundation pit construction

    Silver-modified polyniobotungstate for the visible light-induced simultaneous cleavage of C–C and C–N bonds

    Silver-modified polyniobotungstate based on Nb/W mixed-addendum polyoxometalate with formula Ag9[P2W15Nb3O62]·21H2O (Ag-Nb/W) was synthesized and then characterized by various analytical and spectral techniques. Ag-Nb/W was proven to be an efficient photocatalyst for the oxidative ring opening of 2-phenylimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine via the simultaneous cleavage of C–C and C–N bonds. Under visible light (430–440 nm) and with oxygen as an oxidant at room temperature, Ag-Nb/W can catalyze the rapid transformation of various 2-phenylimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine derivatives to produce the corresponding oxidative ring-opening product N-(pyridin-2-yl) amides in good isolated yields ranging from 65% to 78%. As a heterogeneous photocatalyst, Ag-Nb/W showed excellent sustainability and recyclability in the recycling experiments. Infrared (IR) spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis indicated that Ag-Nb/W could retain its integrity after catalysis.     Estrogen receptor–α in medial amygdala neurons regulates body weight

    Estrogen receptor–α (ERα) activity in the brain prevents obesity in both males and females. However, the ERα-expressing neural populations that regulate body weight remain to be fully elucidated. Here we showed that single-minded–1 (SIM1) neurons in the medial amygdala (MeA) express abundant levels of ERα. Specific deletion of the gene encoding ERα (Esr1) from SIM1 neurons, which are mostly within the MeA, caused hypoactivity and obesity in both male and female mice fed with regular chow, increased susceptibility to diet-induced obesity (DIO) in males but not in females, and blunted the body weight–lowering effects of a glucagon-like peptide-1–estrogen (GLP-1–estrogen) conjugate. Furthermore, selective adeno-associated virus-mediated deletion of Esr1 in the MeA of adult male mice produced a rapid body weight gain that was associated with remarkable reductions in physical activity but did not alter food intake. Conversely, overexpression of ERα in the MeA markedly reduced the severity of DIO in male mice. Finally, an ERα agonist depolarized MeA SIM1 neurons and increased their firing rate, and designer receptors exclusively activated by designer drug–mediated (DREADD-mediated) activation of these neurons increased physical activity in mice. Collectively, our results support a model where ERα signals activate MeA neurons to stimulate physical activity, which in turn prevents body weight gain

    Estrogens stimulate serotonin neurons to inhibit binge-like eating in mice

    Binge eating afflicts approximately 5% of US adults, though effective treatments are limited. Here, we showed that estrogen replacement substantially suppresses binge-like eating behavior in ovariectomized female mice. Estrogen-dependent inhibition of binge-like eating was blocked in female mice specifically lacking estrogen receptor-α (ERα) in serotonin (5-HT) neurons in the dorsal raphe nuclei (DRN). Administration of a recently developed glucagon-like peptide-1–estrogen (GLP-1–estrogen) conjugate designed to deliver estrogen to GLP1 receptor–enhanced regions effectively targeted bioactive estrogens to the DRN and substantially suppressed binge-like eating in ovariectomized female mice. Administration of GLP-1 alone reduced binge-like eating, but not to the same extent as the GLP-1–estrogen conjugate. Administration of ERα-selective agonist propylpyrazole triol (PPT) to murine DRN 5-HT neurons activated these neurons in an ERα-dependent manner. PPT also inhibited a small conductance Ca2+-activated K+ (SK) current; blockade of the SK current prevented PPT-induced activation of DRN 5-HT neurons. Furthermore, local inhibition of the SK current in the DRN markedly suppressed binge-like eating in female mice. Together, our data indicate that estrogens act upon ERα to inhibit the SK current in DRN 5-HT neurons, thereby activating these neurons to suppress binge-like eating behavior and suggest ERα and/or SK current in DRN 5-HT neurons as potential targets for anti-binge therapies

    Large expert-curated database for benchmarking document similarity detection in biomedical literature search

    Document recommendation systems for locating relevant literature have mostly relied on methods developed a decade ago. This is largely due to the lack of a large offline gold-standard benchmark of relevant documents that cover a variety of research fields such that newly developed literature search techniques can be compared, improved and translated into practice. To overcome this bottleneck, we have established the RElevant LIterature SearcH consortium consisting of more than 1500 scientists from 84 countries, who have collectively annotated the relevance of over 180 000 PubMed-listed articles with regard to their respective seed (input) article/s. The majority of annotations were contributed by highly experienced, original authors of the seed articles. The collected data cover 76% of all unique PubMed Medical Subject Headings descriptors. No systematic biases were observed across different experience levels, research fields or time spent on annotations. More importantly, annotations of the same document pairs contributed by different scientists were highly concordant. We further show that the three representative baseline methods used to generate recommended articles for evaluation (Okapi Best Matching 25, Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency and PubMed Related Articles) had similar overall performances. Additionally, we found that these methods each tend to produce distinct collections of recommended articles, suggesting that a hybrid method may be required to completely capture all relevant articles. The established database server located at https://relishdb.ict.griffith.edu.au is freely available for the downloading of annotation data and the blind testing of new methods. We expect that this benchmark will be useful for stimulating the development of new powerful techniques for title and title/abstract-based search engines for relevant articles in biomedical research.Peer reviewe

    Methylprednisolone as Adjunct to Endovascular Thrombectomy for Large-Vessel Occlusion Stroke

    Importance It is uncertain whether intravenous methylprednisolone improves outcomes for patients with acute ischemic stroke due to large-vessel occlusion (LVO) undergoing endovascular thrombectomy. Objective To assess the efficacy and adverse events of adjunctive intravenous low-dose methylprednisolone to endovascular thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke secondary to LVO. Design, Setting, and Participants This investigator-initiated, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was implemented at 82 hospitals in China, enrolling 1680 patients with stroke and proximal intracranial LVO presenting within 24 hours of time last known to be well. Recruitment took place between February 9, 2022, and June 30, 2023, with a final follow-up on September 30, 2023.InterventionsEligible patients were randomly assigned to intravenous methylprednisolone (n = 839) at 2 mg/kg/d or placebo (n = 841) for 3 days adjunctive to endovascular thrombectomy. Main Outcomes and Measures The primary efficacy outcome was disability level at 90 days as measured by the overall distribution of the modified Rankin Scale scores (range, 0 [no symptoms] to 6 [death]). The primary safety outcomes included mortality at 90 days and the incidence of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage within 48 hours. Results Among 1680 patients randomized (median age, 69 years; 727 female [43.3%]), 1673 (99.6%) completed the trial. The median 90-day modified Rankin Scale score was 3 (IQR, 1-5) in the methylprednisolone group vs 3 (IQR, 1-6) in the placebo group (adjusted generalized odds ratio for a lower level of disability, 1.10 [95% CI, 0.96-1.25]; P = .17). In the methylprednisolone group, there was a lower mortality rate (23.2% vs 28.5%; adjusted risk ratio, 0.84 [95% CI, 0.71-0.98]; P = .03) and a lower rate of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (8.6% vs 11.7%; adjusted risk ratio, 0.74 [95% CI, 0.55-0.99]; P = .04) compared with placebo. Conclusions and Relevance Among patients with acute ischemic stroke due to LVO undergoing endovascular thrombectomy, adjunctive methylprednisolone added to endovascular thrombectomy did not significantly improve the degree of overall disability.Trial RegistrationChiCTR.org.cn Identifier: ChiCTR210005172

    Analysis of the removability and stability of rock blocks by considering the rock bridge effect

    In traditional block theory, the removability and stability of rock blocks are analyzed independently; that is, the stability of a removable block is analyzed in detail, and non-removable blocks are regarded as stable. However, in practical situations, non-removable blocks may pose more danger than removable blocks. This paper presents a unified method for analyzing the removability and stability of rock blocks. In this method, the cracking of rock bridges is considered and non-removable blocks are not assumed to be stable. First, possible cracking rock bridges are identified by extending finite-sized fractures and comparing the boundary surfaces of the resulting blocks with those of the original blocks. Then, the sliding direction associated with each possible moving block is determined by solving an optimization problem. The normal force acting on each sliding surface is determined, and the resisting force on each rock bridge is calculated and integrated into the total resisting force when calculating the safety factor of a possible moving block. Procedures to determine all possible moving blocks are introduced, and the possible moving block with the minimum safety factor is regarded as the actual moving block. The corresponding minimum safety factor is defined as the actual safety factor of the block. The proposed method is verified by considering a few examples.     Comparison of Five Nitrogen Dressing Methods to Optimize Rice Growth

    The applicability of five nitrogen (N) dressing methods to rice cultivation was examined using the canopy spectrum-based nitrogen optimization algorithm (CSNOA), leaf area index (LAI), site-specific N management (SSNM), N nutrition index (NNI), and N fertilizer optimization algorithm (NFOA). After base-tiller N dressing (basal dressing and top dressing at the tillering stage) at low and normal levels, rice plants were grown by the above five N dressing methods. The effects of different N dressing methods on plant dry weight, plant N accumulation, grain yield, N use efficiency, and economic benefit were analyzed. Compared with the standard method, under the low base-tiller N dressing level, the optimum N dressing rate was decreased, and the economic benefit was increased by adapting the N dressing methods of CSNOA and SSNM, whereas the optimum N dressing rate was increased, and the economic benefit was decreased by the other three N dressing methods. Under the general base-tiller N dressing level, the optimum N rate, N-use efficiency and economic benefit were increased by all N dressing methods except the NFOA. These results indicated that the CSNOA and SSNM were two good techniques for quantifying N dressing in rice, with higher economic benefit, less N input, and better applicability under different base-tiller N dressing levels
