    Industry and high-tech industries flourish in the current era. In addition to enhancing quality of life, they have caused plentiful harm to human beings and the environment. Some man-made pollution has destroyed the ecological balance. Environmental protection has thus become everybody’s social responsibility. Many enterprises are beginning to actively concern themselves with sustainable business models and environmental protection issues. After continuous technological development in recent years, many new products have emerged to make human life more convenient. The smartphone is among the most popular of these products. The main aims of this study are to (1) analyze green smartphone requirements of consumers and designers; and (2) construct an assessment framework and checklist for smartphone green design. This study adopts voting analytic hierarchy process (VAHP) and quality function deployment (QFD) and constructs green design criteria through expert interviews

    Usability Evaluation of Mobile Commerce Website on Internet – An empirical study

    Mobile network creates an environment that is convenient with fast communication and no localization restriction in which it is a perfect network environment for mobile commerce websites in developing business information applications and services. Two Shopping Malls also launched many mobile commerce website services to capture the gradually growing market. Depending on how convenient and fast these services that the website provides consumers, the quality of these services will determine the consumers’ decision to leave or stay on the website, and the usability of the website will be their deciding factor. This study reviewed how a website with better usability that offers consumers high efficiency and effectiveness with the ease of learning and memorizing have a strong influence over the buying behavior of consumers. This study used experimental questionnaire method to evaluate the usability in different Shopping Mall websites. Before the experiment, this study analyzed what would the expected processes and problems would be for these websites. After the experiment, this study compared the data retrieved from the questionnaires with the experiments of actual problems. The results showed that the psychology in the questionnaire and the physiology in the real-life situation of subjects corresponded with each other. In the usability guidelines, there are significant differences between Two Shopping Malls in the area of effectiveness and learning abilities. After the cross examination of the speculated expectation of the processes and problems on these websites with the actual problems in real-time, the results showed top three issues that were found on second Shopping Mall’s Registration Process played huge influences on the consumer’s behavior. This study proposed various ways of website improvements for better usability after analyzing the problems resulted from poor user interface design with the services provided on this website

    Guidelines for the use and interpretation of assays for monitoring autophagy (3rd edition)

    In 2008 we published the first set of guidelines for standardizing research in autophagy. Since then, research on this topic has continued to accelerate, and many new scientists have entered the field. Our knowledge base and relevant new technologies have also been expanding. Accordingly, it is important to update these guidelines for monitoring autophagy in different organisms. Various reviews have described the range of assays that have been used for this purpose. Nevertheless, there continues to be confusion regarding acceptable methods to measure autophagy, especially in multicellular eukaryotes. For example, a key point that needs to be emphasized is that there is a difference between measurements that monitor the numbers or volume of autophagic elements (e.g., autophagosomes or autolysosomes) at any stage of the autophagic process versus those that measure fl ux through the autophagy pathway (i.e., the complete process including the amount and rate of cargo sequestered and degraded). In particular, a block in macroautophagy that results in autophagosome accumulation must be differentiated from stimuli that increase autophagic activity, defi ned as increased autophagy induction coupled with increased delivery to, and degradation within, lysosomes (inmost higher eukaryotes and some protists such as Dictyostelium ) or the vacuole (in plants and fungi). In other words, it is especially important that investigators new to the fi eld understand that the appearance of more autophagosomes does not necessarily equate with more autophagy. In fact, in many cases, autophagosomes accumulate because of a block in trafficking to lysosomes without a concomitant change in autophagosome biogenesis, whereas an increase in autolysosomes may reflect a reduction in degradative activity. It is worth emphasizing here that lysosomal digestion is a stage of autophagy and evaluating its competence is a crucial part of the evaluation of autophagic flux, or complete autophagy. Here, we present a set of guidelines for the selection and interpretation of methods for use by investigators who aim to examine macroautophagy and related processes, as well as for reviewers who need to provide realistic and reasonable critiques of papers that are focused on these processes. These guidelines are not meant to be a formulaic set of rules, because the appropriate assays depend in part on the question being asked and the system being used. In addition, we emphasize that no individual assay is guaranteed to be the most appropriate one in every situation, and we strongly recommend the use of multiple assays to monitor autophagy. Along these lines, because of the potential for pleiotropic effects due to blocking autophagy through genetic manipulation it is imperative to delete or knock down more than one autophagy-related gene. In addition, some individual Atg proteins, or groups of proteins, are involved in other cellular pathways so not all Atg proteins can be used as a specific marker for an autophagic process. In these guidelines, we consider these various methods of assessing autophagy and what information can, or cannot, be obtained from them. Finally, by discussing the merits and limits of particular autophagy assays, we hope to encourage technical innovation in the field

    [[abstract]]Without a doubt, the current commercial circumstance exists in a strong competition and is full of uncertainty. Managers focus on continuous effort for increasing profits and reducing cost in their organization. In the past two decades, the price of raw materials has fluctuated severely and steel plants found it hard to earn profits and keep the capacity normal. Whereas some steel plants reduced the overcapacity of production by revamping the blast furnace or cutting down the throughput, others tried to limit and eliminate unnecessary cost. However, these strategies have failed to keep pace with the frequent changes in the raw material prices and could not support the profit targets greatly. This study aims at addressing such concerns by proposing an extreme learning machine (ELM) to predict the major raw material price in steel plants. Typically, this paper focuses on integration of Grey Relation Analysis (GRA) with a hybrid forecasting model to forecast the cost of iron ore and coking coal that are majorly used in steel plants. Here we attempt to establish a dynamic cost system to forecast the manufacturing cost of end products and adjust the purchasing and production strategy. This forecasting model can offer an accurate and rapidly predicting result of raw material price. Managers can use this forecasting results to reconsider the purchasing of raw materials and adjust the pricing strategy to pursuit their company’s profit targets

    Correlates of disordered eating and insulin restriction behavior and its association with psychological health in Taiwanese youths with diabetes mellitus

    Abstract Background Adolescents and young adults (AYAs) with diabetes mellitus (DM) are prone to eating disorders that may worsen metabolic control. This study investigated the clinical and behavioral correlates of disordered eating and insulin restriction (DE/IR) behavior and its association with psychological health among AYAs with DM. Methods We enrolled patients with DM aged 10–30 years receiving insulin treatment in a tertiary medical center from 2019 to 2021. After obtaining informed consent, we assessed various visit-to-visit HbA1c measures indicating glycemic control, DE/IR behavior using the modified SCOFF questionnaire, weight-control practices (e.g., self-medication, induced vomiting, and over-exercising), and anxious and depressive symptoms using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale. Correlation and hierarchical regression analyses were applied to understand the clinical and behavioral correlates of DE/IR behavior and its association with anxiety and depression. Results Among the 110 patients with type 1 and type 2 DM recruited, we found 17.6% restricting insulin use and 6.3% self-medicating for weight control (higher in type 2 DM than type 1 DM). Hierarchical regression analyses showed HbA1c standard deviation (odds ratio = 2.18, [95% confidence interval 1.07–4.42]), body image (1.83, [1.05–3.20]), and dieting (4.74, [1.70–13.23]) associated with DE/IR behavior. Moreover, DE/IR behavior was further associated with anxiety (1.17 [1.08–1.27]) and depression (1.12 [1.03–1.22]). Conclusion DE/IR behavior is not uncommon among AYAs with DM, particularly those with type 2 DM, and may be associated with anxiety and depressive symptoms. In addition, HbA1c variability is correlated with DE/IR behavior, and the clinical implications need further exploration

    Inhibitory Effects of High-Hydrostatic-Pressure Processing on Growth and Histamine Formation of Histamine-Forming Bacteria in Yellowfin Tuna Meat during Storage

    In the research, we evaluated the effects of high-pressure processing (HPP) on the growth and histamine formation of histamine-forming bacteria (HFB) in yellowfin tuna meat during storage. Tuna meat samples inoculated with the individual HFB species Morganella morganii and Photobacterium phosphoreum were subjected to HPP treatment at 250, 350, 450, and 550 MPa for 5 min, and the changes in bacterial count, total volatile basic nitrogen (TVBN) content, pH, and histamine content during storage at 4 and 15 °C were analyzed. The results indicate that the bacterial counts of the HFB species decreased significantly with increasing pressure, and HFB became undetectable in the samples treated at 450 and 550 MPa. At a storage temperature of 15 °C, the bacterial counts of both HFB species in the control group and samples subjected to HPP treatment at 250 and 350 MPa increased significantly with storage time. The bacterial counts of M. morganii in the samples stored at 4 °C decreased, whereas those of P. phosphoreum increased gradually owing to its psychrophilic nature. HPP treatment (>250 MPa) inhibited the increases in pH and TVBN content of the samples stored at 15 °C and delayed histamine formation in the samples during storage; these effects were more significant as the pressure during HPP treatment was increased

    Expression patterns of protein inhibitor of activated signal transducers and activators of transcription 3 (PIAS3) was detected in a panel of breast cancer cell lines. Total PIAS3 was determined by immunobotting in various breast cancer cell lines and one normal breast epithelial cell line.     Syndromic ciliopathy: a taiwanese single-center study

    Abstract Background Syndromic ciliopathies are a group of congenital disorders characterized by broad clinical and genetic overlap, including obesity, visual problems, skeletal anomalies, mental retardation, and renal diseases. The hallmark of the pathophysiology among these disorders is defective ciliary functions or formation. Many different genes have been implicated in the pathogenesis of these diseases, but some patients still remain unclear about their genotypes. Methods The aim of this study was to identify the genetic causes in patients with syndromic ciliopathy. Patients suspected of or meeting clinical diagnostic criteria for any type of syndromic ciliopathy were recruited at a single diagnostic medical center in Southern Taiwan. Whole exome sequencing (WES) was employed to identify their genotypes and elucidate the mutation spectrum in Taiwanese patients with syndromic ciliopathy. Clinical information was collected at the time of patient enrollment. Results A total of 14 cases were molecularly diagnosed with syndromic ciliopathy. Among these cases, 10 had Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS), comprising eight BBS2 patients and two BBS7 patients. Additionally, two cases were diagnosed with Alström syndrome, one with Oral-facial-digital syndrome type 14, and another with Joubert syndrome type 10. A total of 4 novel variants were identified. A recurrent splice site mutation, BBS2: c.534 + 1G > T, was present in all eight BBS2 patients, suggesting a founder effect. One BBS2 patient with homozygous c.534 + 1G > T mutations carried a third ciliopathic allele, TTC21B: c.264_267dupTAGA, a nonsense mutation resulting in a premature stop codon and protein truncation. Conclusions Whole exome sequencing (WES) assists in identifying molecular pathogenic variants in ciliopathic patients, as well as the genetic hotspot mutations in specific populations. It should be considered as the first-line genetic testing for heterogeneous disorders characterized by the involvement of multiple genes and diverse clinical manifestations
