    CDMBE: A Case Description Model Based on Evidence

    By combining the advantages of argument map and Bayesian network, a case description model based on evidence (CDMBE), which is suitable to continental law system, is proposed to describe the criminal cases. The logic of the model adopts the credibility logical reason and gets evidence-based reasoning quantitatively based on evidences. In order to consist with practical inference rules, five types of relationship and a set of rules are defined to calculate the credibility of assumptions based on the credibility and supportability of the related evidences. Experiments show that the model can get users’ ideas into a figure and the results calculated from CDMBE are in line with those from Bayesian model

    Valley vortex states and degeneracy lifting via photonic higher-band excitation

    We demonstrate valley-dependent vortex generation in a photonic graphene. Without breaking the inversion symmetry, excitation of two equivalent valleys leads to formation of an optical vortex upon Bragg-reflection to the third valley, with its chirality determined by the valley degree of freedom. Vortex-antivortex pairs with valley-dependent topological charge flipping are also observed and corroborated by numerical simulations. Furthermore, we develop a three-band effective Hamiltonian model to describe the dynamics of the coupled valleys, and find that the commonly used two-band model is not sufficient to explain the observed vortex degeneracy lifting. Such valley-polarized vortex states arise from high-band excitation without inversion symmetry breaking or synthetic-field-induced gap opening. Our results from a photonic setting may provide insight for the study of valley contrasting and Berry-phase mediated topological phenomena in other systems

    Magnetic properties of Er-doped ZnO films prepared by reactive magnetron sputtering

    All Zn1−x Er x O (x=0.04, 0.05, and 0.17) films deposited on glass substrates by radio-frequency reactive magnetron sputtering exhibit the mixture of ferromagnetic and paramagnetic phases at room temperature. The estimated magnetic moment per Er ion decreases with the increase of Er concentration. The temperature dependence of the magnetization indicates that there is no intermetallic ErZn buried in the films. The ferromagnetism is attributed to the Er ions substitution for Zn2+ in ZnO lattices, and it can be interpreted by the bound-magnetic-polaron model

    Multiple Frequency Bands Analysis of Large Scale Intrinsic Brain Networks and Its Application in Schizotypal Personality Disorder

    The human brain is a complex system composed by several large scale intrinsic networks with distinct functions. The low frequency oscillation (LFO) signal of blood oxygen level dependent (BOLD), measured through resting-state fMRI, reflects the spontaneous neural activity of these networks. We propose to characterize these networks by applying the multiple frequency bands analysis (MFBA) to the LFO time courses (TCs) resulted from the group independent component analysis (ICA). Specifically, seven networks, including the default model network (DMN), dorsal attention network (DAN), control executive network (CEN), salience network, sensorimotor network, visual network and limbic network, are identified. After the power spectral density (PSD) analysis, the amplitude of low frequency fluctuation (ALFF) and the fractional amplitude of low frequency fluctuation (fALFF) is determined in three bands: <0.1 Hz; slow-5; and slow-4. Moreover, the MFBA method is applied to reveal the frequency-dependent alternations of fALFF for seven networks in schizotypal personality disorder (SPD). It is found that seven networks can be divided into three categories: the advanced cognitive networks, primary sensorimotor networks and limbic networks, and their fALFF successively decreases in both slow-4 and slow-5 bands. Comparing to normal control group, the fALFF of DMN, DAN and CEN in SPD tends to be higher in slow-5 band, but lower in slow-4. Higher fALFF of sensorimotor and visual networks in slow-5, higher fALFF of limbic network in both bands have been observed for SPD group. The results of ALFF are consistent with those of fALFF. The proposed MFBA method may help distinguish networks or oscillators in the human brain, reveal subtle alternations of networks through locating their dominant frequency band, and present potential to interpret the neuropathology disruptions

    High-temperature modification of steel slag using composite modifier containing silicon calcium slag, fly ash, and reservoir sediment

    Steel slag (SS) is a kind of industrial solid waste, and its accumulation brings certain harm to the ecological environment. In order to promote the building material utilization of SS, high-temperature modification (HTM) of SS is performed using a composite modifier (CMSFR) containing silicon calcium slag (SCS), fly ash (FA), and reservoir sediment (RS). Then, the authors investigated the effect of CMSFR on the cementitious properties and volume soundness of SS mixture after HTM (SMHTM). After that, the mineral composition and microstructure of SMHTM were investigated through X-ray fluorescence analysis (XRF), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS), and particle size analysis. It was found that the free CaO (f-CaO) content obviously decreased, and the cementitious properties improved in SMHTM. When the CMSFR content was 20% (SCS: FA: RS = 9:7:4), and the modification temperature (MT) was 1,250°C, the mass fraction of f-CaO in SMHTM dropped from 4.81% to 1.90%, down by 60.5%; the 28-day activity index of SMHTM increased to 85.4%, 14.3% higher than that of raw SS, which meets the technical requirement of Steel slag powder used for cement and concrete (GB/T 20491-2017): the activity index of grade I SS powder must be greater than or equal to 80%. As the mass fraction of CMSFR grew from 10% to 30%, new mineral phases formed in SMHTM, including diopside (CMS2), ceylonite (MgFe2O4), gehlenite (C2AS), tricalcium aluminate (C3A), and magnetite (Fe3O4). The HTM with CMSFR promotes the decomposition of RO phase (a continuous solid solution composed of divalent metal oxides like FeO, MgO, MnO, and CaO) in raw SS, turning the FeO in that phase into Fe3O4. The above results indicate that the SMHTM mixed with CMSFR can be applied harmless in cement and concrete, making low-energy fine grinding of SS a possibility

    Optimal Blood Pressure Control Target for Older Patients with Hypertension: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

    Objective: This study evaluated the optimal systolic blood pressure (SBP) target for older patients with hypertension.Method: A Bayesian network meta-analysis was conducted. The risk of bias of the included studies was assessed by using a modified version of the Cochrane risk of bias. The trial outcomes comprised the following clinical events: major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), cardiovascular mortality, all-cause mortality, myocardial infarction, heart failure and stroke.Results: A total of six trials were included. We reclassified all treatment therapies into three conditions according to the final achieved SBP after intervention (<130 mmHg, 130–139 mmHg and ≥140 mmHg). Our results demonstrated that anti-hypertensive treatment with an SBP target <130 mmHg, compared with treatment with an SBP target ≥140 mmHg, significantly decreased the incidence of MACE (OR 0.43, 95%CI 0.19–0.76), but no statistical difference was found in other comparisons. Although the results showed a trend toward more intensive anti-hypertension therapy having better effects on preventing cardiovascular mortality, all-cause mortality, myocardial infarction, heart failure, and stroke, no significant differences were found among groups.Conclusions: Our meta-analysis suggested that SBP <130 mmHg might be the optimal BP control target for patients ≥60 years of age; however, further evidence is required to support our findings

    Allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation with decitabine-containing preconditioning regimen in TP53-mutant myelodysplastic syndromes: A case study

    Myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) with TP53 mutations has a poor prognosis after transplantation, and novel therapeutic means are urgently needed. Decitabine (Dec) monotherapy has demonstrated improved overall response rates in MDS and acute myeloid leukaemia, although these responses were not durable. This study aimed to preliminary evaluate the efficacy of a Dec-containing allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) preconditioning regimen in TP53-mutant MDS. Nine patients with TP53-mutant myelodysplastic syndromes received the decitabine-containing preconditioning regimen and subsequent myeloablative allo-HCT between April 2013 and September 2021 in different centres. At a median follow-up of 42 months (range, 5 to 61 months), the overall survival (OS) was 89% (8/9), progression-free survival (PFS) was 89% (8/9), and relapse incidence was 11.1%. The incidence of severe acute (grade III-IV) graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) was 22.2% (2/9) and that of chronic moderate-to-severe GVHD was 11.1% (1/9). The 1-year GVHD-free/relapse-free survival (GRFS) was 56% (5/9). In conclusion, we found real-world clinical data that supports the use of a Dec-containing preconditioning regimen before allo-HSCT for possible improved outcomes in TP53-mutant MDS patients; there is therefore an urgent call for an in-depth exploration of the involved mechanism to confirm these preliminary findings

    Diterpenoids from the leaves of Casearia kurzii showing cytotoxic activities

    A phytochemical investigation to obtain bioactive substances as lead compounds or agents for cancer led to the obtainment of six new and two known clerodane diterpenoids from the leaves of Casearia kurzii. Their structures were elucidated using NMR techniques and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculations. The subsequent biological cytotoxicity evaluation of these isolates toward human lung cancer A549, human cervical cancer HeLa, human chronic myeloid leukemia K562, and human hepatocellular carcinoma HepG2 was carried out. The most active compound 4 with an IC50 value of 9.7 μM against HepG2 cells was selected to examine the cytotoxic mechanism, which induced the apoptosis and arrested the HepG2 cell cycle at S stage.     Large expert-curated database for benchmarking document similarity detection in biomedical literature search

    Document recommendation systems for locating relevant literature have mostly relied on methods developed a decade ago. This is largely due to the lack of a large offline gold-standard benchmark of relevant documents that cover a variety of research fields such that newly developed literature search techniques can be compared, improved and translated into practice. To overcome this bottleneck, we have established the RElevant LIterature SearcH consortium consisting of more than 1500 scientists from 84 countries, who have collectively annotated the relevance of over 180 000 PubMed-listed articles with regard to their respective seed (input) article/s. The majority of annotations were contributed by highly experienced, original authors of the seed articles. The collected data cover 76% of all unique PubMed Medical Subject Headings descriptors. No systematic biases were observed across different experience levels, research fields or time spent on annotations. More importantly, annotations of the same document pairs contributed by different scientists were highly concordant. We further show that the three representative baseline methods used to generate recommended articles for evaluation (Okapi Best Matching 25, Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency and PubMed Related Articles) had similar overall performances. Additionally, we found that these methods each tend to produce distinct collections of recommended articles, suggesting that a hybrid method may be required to completely capture all relevant articles. The established database server located at https://relishdb.ict.griffith.edu.au is freely available for the downloading of annotation data and the blind testing of new methods. We expect that this benchmark will be useful for stimulating the development of new powerful techniques for title and title/abstract-based search engines for relevant articles in biomedical research.Peer reviewe
