The scientific knowledge and scientific developments through the Greek children's and youth press (1836 - 1894)

The scope of this research is the listing and study of the publications addressed to the young people of that time (1836-1894) and are referred - directly or indirectly- to the sciences and the scientific and technological achievements and discoveries that appeared with intensity(mainly)in Europe; and substantially changed the characteristics of society from about the middle of the 19thcentury. Furthermore, in the research are included publications with the wider context that promote and facilitate the development of science, the dissemination of knowledge and the strengthening of the process of transition of Greek society from the traditional organization to that of a modern "Western type" state, i.e. publications on education, education, the press, and those aimed at cultivating national consciousness, since their young readers are citizens of a newly minted nation state.The aim of the research is to contribute to the study of the process of dissemination of scientific and technological knowledge to the Greek-speaking youth-audience, as expressed by the term "communication of science". Through the publications of the children's and youth press, an attempt is made to detect the influence and the extent of this on the image that the citizens of the newly established Greek state have had of science and its contribution to the social scene. Alongside with the above, in this research is presented the effort of spreading the scientific knowledge in comparison with other aspects of modernity that are particularly evident in 19th century Greece.Αντικείμενο της εργασίας είναι η καταγραφή και μελέτη των δημοσιευμάτων που απευθύνονται στους νέους της εποχής (1836-1894), και αφορούν άμεσα ή έμμεσα στις επιστήμες και στα επιστημονικά και τεχνολογικά επιτεύγματα και ανακαλύψεις που εμφανίζονται με ένταση στην Ευρώπη (κυρίως) και αλλάζουν ουσιαστικά τα χαρακτηριστικά της κοινωνίας από τα μέσα περίπου του 19ου αιώνα. Καταγράφονται επίσης και δημοσιεύματα σχετικά με το ευρύτερο πλαίσιο που προβάλει και διευκολύνει την ανάπτυξη των επιστημών, τη διάδοση των γνώσεων και την ενίσχυση της διαδικασίας μετάβασης της ελληνικής κοινωνίας από την παραδοσιακή οργάνωση σε αυτή ενός σύγχρονου «δυτικού τύπου» κράτους. Δημοσιεύματα δηλαδή σχετικά με την παιδεία, την εκπαίδευση, τον τύπο, και αυτά που στοχεύουν στην καλλιέργεια της εθνικής συνείδησης, μιας και οι μικροί αναγνώστες τους είναι πολίτες ενός νεόκοπου εθνικού κράτους. Σκοπός είναι η συμβολή στη μελέτη της διαδικασίας διάχυσης των επιστημονικών και τεχνολογικών γνώσεων στο ελληνόφωνο νεανικό κοινό, όπως εκφράζεται με τον όρο «επικοινωνία της επιστήμης». Μέσα από τα δημοσιεύματα του παιδικού και νεανικού τύπου, γίνεται προσπάθεια ανίχνευσης της επιρροής και του βαθμού αυτής στην εικόνα που έχουν οι πολίτες του νεοσύστατου ελληνικού κράτους για την επιστήμη και τη συμβολή της στο κοινωνικό γίγνεσθαι. Παράλληλα παρουσιάζεται αυτή η προσπάθεια διάχυσης των επιστημονικών και τεχνολογικών γνώσεων, σε σύγκριση με άλλες πτυχές της νεωτερικότητας που είναι ιδιαίτερα εμφανείς στην Ελλάδα του 19ου αιώνα
