    The Comparison of De Novo Grade 3 Follicular Lymphoma and Transformed Grade 3 Follicular Lymphoma: Own Data

    Background. Grade 3 follicular lymphoma (FL) is a heterogenetic group of tumors. The selections of patients with similar characteristics of the tumor process is important for classification 3 grade forms of FL and risk stratification, as well as for the development of new therapeutic approaches. Different morphological, immunohistochemical and cytogenetical characteristics of the tumor result in different clinical forms of the disease. Aim. To describe the clinical, morphological, immunohistochemical and cytogenetical characteristics of grade 3 FL and evaluate their prognostic value for R-CHOP-21 chemotherapy. Materials & Methods. We performed retrospective and prospective analysis of morphological, immunohistochemical and genetical characteristics of 93 primary patients with grade 3 FL (21–78 years, median 53 years, women to men — 1:1.4) admitted to National Medical Hematology Research Center from years 2001 to 2016. Morphological and immunohistochemical assessment of the affected lymph nodes and bone marrow biopsy material was performed. Data obtained from the standard cytogenetic and FISH assessment were compared to identify the BCL2 rearrangement. Results. We proposed an algorithm for differential diagnosis of the 2 types of grade 3 FL: de novo FL (n = 22) and transformed FL (n = 21). De novo grade 3 FL had the immunophenotype of CD10– in 19 (86 %) cases, MUM1++ (monomorphically) in 19 (90 %), and BCL-2 in 5 (22 %). It was characterized by the absence of the BCL2 rearrangement (n = 22, 100 %) and bone marrow involvement (n = 14, 67 %) and/or bone marrow involvement (n = 7, 100 %). Third grade FL transformed from grades 1 or 2 had was CD10+ (n = 19, 90 %), MUM1+ (heterogeneously, n = 16, 76 %) or MUM1– (n = 4, 19 %), BCL-2+ (n = 20, 95 %) and had BCL2 rearrangement (n = 19, 90 %). Small cell bone marrow involvement was observed in 71 % of cases, whereas large cell involvement was seen predominantly in de novo FL (p = 0.06). The analysis showed that 5-year relapse-free survival in patients with grade 3 de novo FL after R-CHOP-21 therapy was 87 % compared to 16 % with transformed FL (p = 0.06) for the median 41 months of follow up. Conclusion. We described the morphological, immunohistochemical and cytogenetical characteristics of grade 3 de novo FL and grade 3 FL, transformed from grades 1 or 2. The described variants show different sensitivity to immunochemotherapy

    Nonlinear Sigma Model for Disordered Media: Replica Trick for Non-Perturbative Results and Interactions

    In these lectures, given at the NATO ASI at Windsor (2001), applications of the replicas nonlinear sigma model to disordered systems are reviewed. A particular attention is given to two sets of issues. First, obtaining non-perturbative results in the replica limit is discussed, using as examples (i) an oscillatory behaviour of the two-level correlation function and (ii) long-tail asymptotes of different mesoscopic distributions.     Graphene Bilayer Structures with Superfluid Magnetoexcitons

    We study superfluid behavior of a gas of spatially indirect magnetoexcitons with reference to a system of two graphene layers embedded in a multilayer dielectric structure. The system is considered as an alternative of a double quantum well in a GaAs haterostructure. We determine a range of parameters (interlayer distance, dielectric constant, magnetic field and gate voltage) where magnetoexciton superfluidity can be achieved. Temperature of superfluid transition is computed. A reduction of critical parameters caused by impurities is evaluated and critical impurity concentration is determined

    Measurement of B(/\c->pKpi)

    The /\c->pKpi yield has been measured in a sample of two-jet continuum events containing a both an anticharm tag (Dbar) as well as an antiproton (e+e- -> Dbar pbar X), with the antiproton in the hemisphere opposite the Dbar. Under the hypothesis that such selection criteria tag e+e- -> Dbar pbar (/\c) X events, the /\c->pkpi branching fraction can be determined by measuring the pkpi yield in the same hemisphere as the antiprotons in our Dbar pbar X sample. Combining our results from three independent types of anticharm tags, we obtain B(/\c->pKpi)=(5.0+/-0.5+/-1.2)

    Elastic and thermodynamic properties of alpha-Bi2O3 at high pressures: Study of mechanical and dynamical stability

    [EN] The elastic and thermodynamic properties of the monoclinic polymorph of bismuth oxide (alpha-Bi2O3); aka mineral bismite, have been theoretically investigated both at room pressure and under hydrostatic compression by means of first principles calculations based on density functional theory. In this work, the elastic stiffness coefficients, elastic moduli, Poisson's ratio, B/G ratio, elastic anisotropy indexes (A(B), A(G), A(1), A(2), A(3), Au) and directional dependence of Young modulus and linear compressibility have been obtained. Vickers hardness, and sound wave velocities have been calculated. Our simulations show that bismite has a high elastic anisotropy. alpha-Bi2O3 is a ductile material whose elastic anisotropy increases under compression and presents a stronger ability to resist volume compression than shear deformation at all pressures. Besides, it has a very small minimum thermal conductivity, which is well suited for thermoelectric applications. Finally, the mechanical and dynamical stability of bismite at high pressure has been studied and it has been found that alpha-Bi2O3 becomes mechanically unstable at pressures beyond 19.3 GPa and dynamically unstable above 11.5 GPa.     Transitional Probability-Based Model for HPV Clearance in HIV-1-Positive Adolescent Females

    BACKGROUND: HIV-1-positive patients clear the human papillomavirus (HPV) infection less frequently than HIV-1-negative. Datasets for estimating HPV clearance probability often have irregular measurements of HPV status and risk factors. A new transitional probability-based model for estimation of probability of HPV clearance was developed to fully incorporate information on HIV-1-related clinical data, such as CD4 counts, HIV-1 viral load (VL), highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART), and risk factors (measured quarterly), and HPV infection status (measured at 6-month intervals). METHODOLOGY AND FINDINGS: Data from 266 HIV-1-positive and 134 at-risk HIV-1-negative adolescent females from the Reaching for Excellence in Adolescent Care and Health (REACH) cohort were used in this study. First, the associations were evaluated using the Cox proportional hazard model, and the variables that demonstrated significant effects on HPV clearance were included in transitional probability models. The new model established the efficacy of CD4 cell counts as a main clearance predictor for all type-specific HPV phylogenetic groups. The 3-month probability of HPV clearance in HIV-1-infected patients significantly increased with increasing CD4 counts for HPV16/16-like (p<0.001), HPV18/18-like (p<0.001), HPV56/56-like (p = 0.05), and low-risk HPV (p<0.001) phylogenetic groups, with the lowest probability found for HPV16/16-like infections (21.60±1.81% at CD4 level 200 cells/mm(3), p<0.05; and 28.03±1.47% at CD4 level 500 cells/mm(3)). HIV-1 VL was a significant predictor for clearance of low-risk HPV infections (p<0.05). HAART (with protease inhibitor) was significant predictor of probability of HPV16 clearance (p<0.05). HPV16/16-like and HPV18/18-like groups showed heterogeneity (p<0.05) in terms of how CD4 counts, HIV VL, and HAART affected probability of clearance of each HPV infection. CONCLUSIONS: This new model predicts the 3-month probability of HPV infection clearance based on CD4 cell counts and other HIV-1-related clinical measurements

    Observation of associated near-side and away-side long-range correlations in √sNN=5.02  TeV proton-lead collisions with the ATLAS detector

    Two-particle correlations in relative azimuthal angle (Δϕ) and pseudorapidity (Δη) are measured in √sNN=5.02  TeV p+Pb collisions using the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The measurements are performed using approximately 1  μb-1 of data as a function of transverse momentum (pT) and the transverse energy (ΣETPb) summed over 3.1<η<4.9 in the direction of the Pb beam. The correlation function, constructed from charged particles, exhibits a long-range (2<|Δη|<5) “near-side” (Δϕ∼0) correlation that grows rapidly with increasing ΣETPb. A long-range “away-side” (Δϕ∼π) correlation, obtained by subtracting the expected contributions from recoiling dijets and other sources estimated using events with small ΣETPb, is found to match the near-side correlation in magnitude, shape (in Δη and Δϕ) and ΣETPb dependence. The resultant Δϕ correlation is approximately symmetric about π/2, and is consistent with a dominant cos⁡2Δϕ modulation for all ΣETPb ranges and particle pT

    This paper presents a measurement of the cross-section for high transverse momentum W and Z bosons produced in pp collisions and decaying to all-hadronic final states. The data used in the analysis were recorded by the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider at a centre-of-mass energy of √s = 7 TeV;{\rm Te}{\rm V}andcorrespondtoanintegratedluminosityof and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.6\;{\rm f}{{{\rm b}}^{-1}}.ThemeasurementisperformedbyreconstructingtheboostedWorZbosonsinsinglejets.ThereconstructedjetmassisusedtoidentifytheWandZbosons,andajetsubstructuremethodbasedonenergyclusterinformationinthejetcentreofmassframeisusedtosuppressthelargemultijetbackground.ThecrosssectionforeventswithahadronicallydecayingWorZboson,withtransversemomentum. The measurement is performed by reconstructing the boosted W or Z bosons in single jets. The reconstructed jet mass is used to identify the W and Z bosons, and a jet substructure method based on energy cluster information in the jet centre-of-mass frame is used to suppress the large multi-jet background. The cross-section for events with a hadronically decaying W or Z boson, with transverse momentum {{p}_{{\rm T}}}\gt 320\;{\rm Ge}{\rm V}andpseudorapidity and pseudorapidity |\eta |\lt 1.9,ismeasuredtobe, is measured to be {{\sigma }_{W+Z}}=8.5\pm 1.7$ pb and is compared to next-to-leading-order calculations. The selected events are further used to study jet grooming techniques

    Search for pair-produced long-lived neutral particles decaying to jets in the ATLAS hadronic calorimeter in ppcollisions at √s=8TeV

    The ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN is used to search for the decay of a scalar boson to a pair of long-lived particles, neutral under the Standard Model gauge group, in 20.3fb−1of data collected in proton–proton collisions at √s=8TeV. This search is sensitive to long-lived particles that decay to Standard Model particles producing jets at the outer edge of the ATLAS electromagnetic calorimeter or inside the hadronic calorimeter. No significant excess of events is observed. Limits are reported on the product of the scalar boson production cross section times branching ratio into long-lived neutral particles as a function of the proper lifetime of the particles. Limits are reported for boson masses from 100 GeVto 900 GeV, and a long-lived neutral particle mass from 10 GeVto 150 GeV

    Search for the neutral Higgs bosons of the minimal supersymmetric standard model in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    A search for neutral Higgs bosons of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) is reported. The analysis is based on a sample of proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The data were recorded in 2011 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb-1 to 4.8 fb-1. Higgs boson decays into oppositely-charged muon or τ lepton pairs are considered for final states requiring either the presence or absence of b-jets. No statistically significant excess over the expected background is observed and exclusion limits at the 95% confidence level are derived. The exclusion limits are for the production cross-section of a generic neutral Higgs boson, φ, as a function of the Higgs boson mass and for h/A/H production in the MSSM as a function of the parameters mA and tan β in the mhmax scenario for mA in the range of 90GeV to 500 GeV.
