Segmentation of Loops from Coronal EUV Images
We present a procedure which extracts bright loop features from solar EUV
images. In terms of image intensities, these features are elongated ridge-like
intensity maxima. To discriminate the maxima, we need information about the
spatial derivatives of the image intensity. Commonly, the derivative estimates
are strongly affected by image noise. We therefore use a regularized estimation
of the derivative which is then used to interpolate a discrete vector field of
ridge points ``ridgels'' which are positioned on the ridge center and have the
intrinsic orientation of the local ridge direction. A scheme is proposed to
connect ridgels to smooth, spline-represented curves which fit the observed
loops. Finally, a half-automated user interface allows one to merge or split,
eliminate or select loop fits obtained form the above procedure. In this paper
we apply our tool to one of the first EUV images observed by the SECCHI
instrument onboard the recently launched STEREO spacecraft. We compare the
extracted loops with projected field lines computed from
almost-simultaneously-taken magnetograms measured by the SOHO/MDI Doppler
imager. The field lines were calculated using a linear force-free field model.
This comparison allows one to verify faint and spurious loop connections
produced by our segmentation tool and it also helps to prove the quality of the
magnetic-field model where well-identified loop structures comply with
field-line projections. We also discuss further potential applications of our

Turbulent Dynamos and Magnetic Helicity
It is shown that the turbulent dynamo -effect converts magnetic
helicity from the turbulent field to the mean field when the turbulence is
electromagnetic while the magnetic helicity of the mean-field is transported
across space when the turbulence is electrostatic or due to the electron
diamagnetic effect. In all cases, however, the dynamo effect strictly conserves
the total helicity except for resistive effects and a small battery effect.
Implications for astrophysical situations, especially for the solar dynamo, are

Another step closer to measuring the ghosts in the nursery: preliminary validation of the Trauma Reflective Functioning Scale
The aim of this study was to examine preliminary evidence of the validity of the Trauma Reflective Functioning Scale and to investigate reflective functioning (RF) and attachment in pregnant women with histories of trauma, with a particular focus on the capacity to mentalize regarding trauma and its implications for adaptation to pregnancy and couple functioning. The Adult Attachment Interview was used to assess attachment, unresolved trauma and mentalization (measured as RF) regarding relationships with attachment figures (RF-G) and trauma (RF-T) in 100 pregnant women with histories of abuse and neglect. The majority (63%) of women had insecure attachment states of mind and approximately half were unresolved regarding trauma. Furthermore, the majority of women manifested deficits specific to RF-T. Their RF-T was significantly lower than their RF-G; the findings indicate that women with histories of childhood abuse and neglect do not manifest a generic inhibition of reflectiveness, but a collapse of mentalization specific to trauma. Low RF-T, indicative of difficulty in considering traumatic experiences in mental state terms, was associated with difficulty in investment in the pregnancy and lack of positive feelings about the baby and motherhood. In addition, low RF-T was also associated with difficulties in intimate relationships. Results of a regression analysis with RF indicated that RF-T was the best predictor of investment in pregnancy and couple functioning. In sum, the study provides preliminary evidence that RF-T can be reliably measured and is a valid construct that has potential usefulness for research and clinical practice. It highlights the importance of mentalization specifically about trauma and suggests that it is not the experience of trauma per se, but the absence of mentalization regarding trauma that is associated with difficulties in close relationships and in making the transition to parenthood
Astrophysical magnetic fields and nonlinear dynamo theory
The current understanding of astrophysical magnetic fields is reviewed,
focusing on their generation and maintenance by turbulence. In the
astrophysical context this generation is usually explained by a self-excited
dynamo, which involves flows that can amplify a weak 'seed' magnetic field
exponentially fast. Particular emphasis is placed on the nonlinear saturation
of the dynamo. Analytic and numerical results are discussed both for small
scale dynamos, which are completely isotropic, and for large scale dynamos,
where some form of parity breaking is crucial. Central to the discussion of
large scale dynamos is the so-called alpha effect which explains the generation
of a mean field if the turbulence lacks mirror symmetry, i.e. if the flow has
kinetic helicity. Large scale dynamos produce small scale helical fields as a
waste product that quench the large scale dynamo and hence the alpha effect.
With this in mind, the microscopic theory of the alpha effect is revisited in
full detail and recent results for the loss of helical magnetic fields are

Large-Eddy Simulations of Magnetohydrodynamic Turbulence in Heliophysics and Astrophysics
We live in an age in which high-performance computing is transforming the way we do science. Previously intractable problems are now becoming accessible by means of increasingly realistic numerical simulations. One of the most enduring and most challenging of these problems is turbulence. Yet, despite these advances, the extreme parameter regimes encountered in space physics and astrophysics (as in atmospheric and oceanic physics) still preclude direct numerical simulation. Numerical models must take a Large Eddy Simulation (LES) approach, explicitly computing only a fraction of the active dynamical scales. The success of such an approach hinges on how well the model can represent the subgrid-scales (SGS) that are not explicitly resolved. In addition to the parameter regime, heliophysical and astrophysical applications must also face an equally daunting challenge: magnetism. The presence of magnetic fields in a turbulent, electrically conducting fluid flow can dramatically alter the coupling between large and small scales, with potentially profound implications for LES/SGS modeling. In this review article, we summarize the state of the art in LES modeling of turbulent magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) ows. After discussing the nature of MHD turbulence and the small-scale processes that give rise to energy dissipation, plasma heating, and magnetic reconnection, we consider how these processes may best be captured within an LES/SGS framework. We then consider several special applications in heliophysics and astrophysics, assessing triumphs, challenges,and future directions

Penelitian tugas akhir ini mengkaji tentang Profil Wisatawan di
Museum Radya Pustaka Surakarta. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk
mengetahui dari daerah mana saja wisatawan yang berkunjung ke Museum
Radya Pustaka, bagaimana ciri-ciri wisatawan yang berkunjung ke Museum
Radya Pustaka serta harapan-harapan yang diinginkan wisatawan terhadap
Museum Radya Pustaka.
Penelitian dilakukan dengan metode kualitatif. Pengumpulan data
dilakukan melalui wawancara dengan narasumber wisatawan yang berkujung
di Museum Radya Pustaka Surakarta tempat penulis melakukan penelitian,
serta studi pustaka dan studi dokumen guna menambah sumber data.
Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) Sebagian besar wisatawan
yang datang berasal dari Semarang sebesar 32%. (2) Mayoritas wisatawan
yang berkunjung ke Museum Radya Pustaka berusia antara 17-25 tahun dan
kebanyakan dari mereka adalah pelajar atau mahasiswa dengan prosentase
52%. (3) Sebagian besar wisatawan yang datang ke Museum Radya Pustaka
adalah bertujuan untuk melakukan penelitian yaitu sebesar 34%. (4) Harapan
wisatawan yang berkunjung terhadap kelangsungan Museum Radya Pustaka
sebagian besar adalah agar ditingkatkan lagi pengelolaan dan keamanan
museum, agar kejadian hilangnya benda-benda koleksi museum tidak terulang
lagi dikemudian hari.
Kesimpulan dari hasil penelitian ini bahwa wisatawan yang berkujung
ke Museum Radya Pustaka Surakarta mayoritas berasal dari Semarang,
mayoritas berusia 17-25 tahun dan kebanyakan dari mereka adalah berprofesi
sebagai pelajar dan mahasiswa. Kebanyakan wisatawan yang datang bertujuan
untuk melakukan penelitian, serta harapan wisatawan terhadap Museum
Radya Pustaka adalah supaya lebih ditingkatkan lagi pengelolaan dan
keamanan museum
