Clinical Efficacy of Radiofrequency Cervical Zygapophyseal Neurotomy in Patients with Chronic Cervicogenic Headache
The purpose of the present study was to assess the clinical efficacy of radiofrequency (RF) cervical zygapophyseal joint neurotomy in patients with cervicogenic headache. A total of thirty consecutive patients suffering from chronic cervicogenic headaches for longer than 6 months and showing a pain relief by greater than 50% from diagnostic/prognostic blocks were included in the study. These patients were treated with RF neurotomy of the cervical zygapophyseal joints and were subsequently assessed at 1 week, 1 month, 6 months, and at 12 months following the treatment. The results of this study showed that RF neurotomy of the cervical zygapophyseal joints significantly reduced the headache severity in 22 patients (73.3%) at 12 months after the treatment. In conclusion, RF cervical zygapophyseal joint neurotomy has shown to provide substantial pain relief in patients with chronic cervicogenic headache
when carefully selected
Advances in short bowel syndrome: an updated review
Short bowel syndrome (SBS) continues to be an important clinical problem due to its high mortality and morbidity as well as its devastating socioeconomic effects. The past 3 years have witnessed many advances in the investigation of this condition, with the aim of elucidating the cellular and molecular mechanisms of intestinal adaptation. Such information may provide opportunities to exploit various factors that act as growth agents for the remaining bowel mucosa and may suggest new therapeutic strategies to maintain gut integrity, eliminate dependence on total parenteral nutrition, and avoid the need for intestinal transplantation. This review summarizes current research on SBS over the last few years.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/47168/1/383_2005_Article_1500.pd

Semantic Reasoning with Contextual Ontologies on Sensor Cloud Environment
This research first focused on processing enormous number of sensor events from a variety of city-wide sensor networks. As a solution, the well-known big data handling scheme, Hadoop cluster framework, drew, unquestionably, our attention. The acquired sensor events are to be used to immediately detect a certain abnormal situation within the framework. Accordingly, we integrated our existing context-aware collaboration framework with Hadoop cluster framework by interfacing data collection and context-aware reasoning parts of the existing framework with the Hadoop cluster framework. This approach enabled us to effectively process massive sensor events and semantically analyze the big data within the cluster environment. The proposed smart city sensor cloud framework provides ontology-enabled semantic reasoning scheme with the XOntology in combination with the Context-Aware Inference (CAI) model. By applying the ontology technology, the proposed framework enhances the availability and interoperability of the contextual information across many cooperating parties according to semantic reasoning results. Further, this framework is flexible enough to integrate any heterogeneous platforms including many existing IT solutions as well as mobile platforms. In addition, this approach presents the direction of progressive migration of many existing sensor network solutions into big data handling sensor cloud framework
Synthesis of Stereoselective Multifused Cyclic Compounds via Palladium-Catalyzed C3-Allylative Dearomatization
In
this study, Pd-catalyzed enantioselective C3-allylative dearomatization
is performed, which proceeds via dearomative [3 + 2] cycloaddition
involving quinolinium zwitterions and vinyl cyclopropanes. This protocol
is significant for the synthesis of complex, multifused cyclic compounds
characterized by meticulously controlled multistereogenic centers
using π-allyl palladium species. The method developed herein
presents an approach to overcoming the challenge of achieving stereoselective
C3-functionalization. The SEGPHOS ligand plays an integral role in
this process by improving both the conversion rates and stereoselectivity.
Our investigation also underscores the versatility of this methodology
by demonstrating its potential for the construction of stereocontrolled
fused N-cyclic systems. The results of this study
lay the foundation for the further exploration and refinement of asymmetric
dearomatization aimed at the strategic construction of stereoselective N-heterocyclic compounds

Axon-First Neuritogenesis on Vertical Nanowires
In this work, we report that high-density, vertically grown silicon nanowires (vg-SiNWs) direct a new in vitro developmental pathway of primary hippocampal neurons. Neurons on vg-SiNWs formed a single, extremely elongated major neurite earlier than minor neurites, which led to accelerated polarization. Additionally, the development of lamellipodia, which generally occurs on 2D culture coverslips, was absent on vg-SiNWs. The results indicate that surface topography is an important factor that influences neuronal development and also provide implications for the role of topography in neuronal development in vivo.1115sciescopu
