Folded Supersymmetry and the LEP Paradox
We present a new class of models that stabilize the weak scale against
radiative corrections up to scales of order 5 TeV without large corrections to
precision electroweak observables. In these `folded supersymmetric' theories
the one loop quadratic divergences of the Standard Model Higgs field are
cancelled by opposite spin partners, but the gauge quantum numbers of these new
particles are in general different from those of the conventional
superpartners. This class of models is built around the correspondence that
exists in the large N limit between the correlation functions of supersymmetric
theories and those of their non-supersymmetric orbifold daughters. By
identifying the mechanism which underlies the cancellation of one loop
quadratic divergences in these theories, we are able to construct simple
extensions of the Standard Model which are radiatively stable at one loop.
Ultraviolet completions of these theories can be obtained by imposing suitable
boundary conditions on an appropriate supersymmetric higher dimensional theory
compactified down to four dimensions. We construct a specific model based on
these ideas which stabilizes the weak scale up to about 20 TeV and where the
states which cancel the top loop are scalars not charged under Standard Model
color. Its collider signatures are distinct from conventional supersymmetric
theories and include characteristic events with hard leptons and missing
energy.Comment: 18 pages, 5 figures, references correcte
Possible Flavor Mixing Structures of Lepton Mass Matrices
To search for possible textures of lepton mass matrices, we systematically
examine flavor mixing structures which can lead to large lepton mixing angles.
We find out 37 mixing patterns are consistent with experimental data, taking
into account phase factors in the mixing matrices. Only six of the patterns can
explain the observed data without any tuning of parameters, while the others
need particular choices for the phase values. It is found that these six mixing
patterns are those predicted by the models which have been proposed to account
for fermion mass hierarchies. On the other hand, the others may give new flavor
mixing structures of lepton mass matrices and therefore new possibilities of
model construction.Comment: 21 page
Leptogenesis in Neutrino Textures with Two Zeros
The leptogenesis is studied in the neutrino textures with two zeros, which
reduce the number of independent phases of the CP violation. The
phenomenological favored neutrino textures with two zeros are decomposed into
the Dirac neutrino mass matrix and the right-handed Majorana one in the see-saw
mechanism. Putting the condition to suppress the decay
enough, the texture zeros of the Dirac neutrino mass matrix are fixed in the
framework of the MSSM with right-handed neutrinos. These textures have only one
CP violatig phase. The magnitude of each entry of the Dirac mass matrix is
determined in order to explain the baryon asymmetry of the universe by solving
the Boltzman equations. The relation between the leptogenesis and the low
energy CP violation is presented in these textures.Comment: Latex file with 20 pages, 6 eps figure
International variation in distribution of ASA class in patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty and its influence on mortality: data from an international consortium of arthroplasty registries
Background and purpose â A challenge comparing outcomes from total hip arthroplasty between countries is variation in preoperative characteristics, particularly comorbidity. Therefore, we investigated between-country variation in comorbidity in patients based on ASA class distribution, and determined any variation of ASA class to mortality risk between countries.
Patients and methods â All arthroplasty registries collecting ASA class and mortality data in patients with elective primary THAs performed 2012â2016 were identified. Survival analyses of the influence of ASA class on 1-year mortality were performed by individual registries, followed by meta-analysis of aggregated data.
Results â 6 national registries and 1âUS healthcare organization registry with 418,916 THAs were included. There was substantial variation in the proportion of ASA class III/IV, ranging from 14% in the Netherlands to 39% in Finland. Overall, 1-year mortality was 0.93% (95% CI 0.87â1.01) and increased from 0.2% in ASA class I to 8.9% in class IV. The association between ASA class and mortality measured by hazard ratios (HR) was strong in all registries even after adjustment for age and sex, which reduced them by half in all registries. Combined adjusted HRs were 2.0, 6.1, and 22 for ASA class IIâIV vs. I, respectively. Associations were moderately heterogeneous across registries.
Interpretation â We observed large variation in ASA class distribution between registries, possibly explained by differences in background morbidity and/or international variation in access to surgery. The similar, strong mortality trends by ASA class between countries enhance the relevance of its use as an indicator of comorbidity in international registry studies
Probing the seesaw mechanism with neutrino data and leptogenesis
In the framework of the seesaw mechanism with three heavy right-handed
Majorana neutrinos and no Higgs triplets we carry out a systematic study of the
structure of the right-handed neutrino sector. Using the current low-energy
neutrino data as an input and assuming hierarchical Dirac-type neutrino masses
, we calculate the masses and the mixing of the heavy neutrinos.
We confront the inferred properties of these neutrinos with the constraints
coming from the requirement of a successful baryogenesis via leptogenesis. In
the generic case the masses of the right-handed neutrinos are highly
hierarchical: ; the lightest mass is GeV and the generated baryon-to-photon ratio is
much smaller than the observed value. We find the special cases which
correspond to the level crossing points, with maximal mixing between two
quasi-degenerate right-handed neutrinos. Two level crossing conditions are
obtained: (1-2 crossing) and (2-3
crossing), where and are respectively the 11-entry and the
12-subdeterminant of the light neutrino mass matrix in the basis where the
neutrino Yukawa couplings are diagonal. We show that sufficient lepton
asymmetry can be produced only in the 1-2 crossing where GeV, GeV and .Comment: 30 pages, 2 eps figures, JHEP3.cls, typos corrected, note (and

Lepton Flavor Violating Process in Bi-maximal texture of Neutrino Mixings
We investigate the lepton flavor violation in the framework of the MSSM with
right-handed neutrinos taking the large mixing angle MSW solution in the
quasi-degenerate and the inverse-hierarchical neutrino masses. We predict the
branching ratio of and processes
assuming the degenerate right-handed Majorana neutrino masses. We find that the
branching ratio in the quasi-degenerate neutrino mass spectrum is 100 times
smaller than the ones in the inverse-hierarchical and the hierarchical neutrino
spectra. We emphasize that the magnitude of is one of important
ingredients to predict BR(). The effect of the deviation
from the complete-degenerate right-handed Majorana neutrino masses are also
estimated. Furtheremore, we examine the S_{3\sL}\times S_{3\sR} model, which
gives the quasi-degenerate neutrino masses, and the Shafi-Tavartkiladze model,
which gives the inverse-hierarchical neutrino masses. Both predicted branching
ratios of are smaller than the experimantal bound.Comment: Latex file, 38 pages, 10 figures, revised versio
Search for a heavy bottom-like quark in pp collisions at âs =7 TeV
This is the Pre-Print version of the Article. The official published version of the paper can be accessed from the link below - Copyright @ 2011 Elsevier.A search for pair-produced bottom-like quarks in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV is conducted with the CMS experiment at the LHC. The decay b' to tW is considered in this search. The b' b'-bar to tW^- t-bar W^+ process can be identified by the distinctive signature of trileptons and same-sign dileptons. With a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 34 inverse picobarns, no excess above the standard model background predictions is observed and a b' quark with a mass between 255 and 361 GeV/c^2 is excluded at the 95% confidence level. This work is supported by the FMSR (Austria); FNRS and FWO (Belgium); CNPq, CAPES, FAPERJ, and FAPESP (Brazil); MES (Bulgaria); CERN; CAS, MoST, and NSFC (China); COLCIENCIAS (Colombia); MSES (Croatia); RPF (Cyprus); Academy of Sciences
