    99mTc-DMSA Scintigraphy Revealed A Unilateral Multicystic Anomaly In A Horseshoe Kidney

    The multicystic dysplastic pattern in a half of a horseshoe kidney is a very uncommon presentation. We present a 6-month-old male infant with a history of antenatally unilateral cystic abnormality in the right kidney which was reevaluated after birth by ultrasonography (US) and 99m Tc-DMSA scintigraphy. The US showed a horseshoe kidney with the multicystic dysplastic area on the right side, which proved to be non-functional on 99m Tc-DMSA scintigraphy

    Proactive admission control and dynamic resource management in SDN-based virtualized networks

    Network virtualization is a promising approach in which common physical resources are shared between service providers. Due to the substrate network limitations such as maximum available memory of each node of the substrate network as well as different service priorities and requirements, resource management in this setup is essential. On the other hand, SDN is bringing a considerable flexibility in resource management by introducing a centralized controller which can monitor all the substrate network states. In this paper, we propose a proactive admission control and dynamic resource management in SDNbased virtualized network in which the number of accepted highpriority virtual network (VN) requests is maximized, subject to both substrate limitations and memory requirement of each VN request. In the proposed formulation, based on the prediction of the substrate network utilization, we reserve resources for upcoming high-priority VN requests. Via simulation, we show that the algorithm can increase the acceptance ratio of the highpriority VN requests up to % 100 where the substrate network is congested, i.e., arrival rates of both high-priority and low-priority VN requests are high

    Primary skeletal muscle lymphoma with unusual soft tissue metastases in the stomach and pancreas detected by 18F-FDG PET/CT

    A 69 y/o woman with a history of primary diffuse large B cell lymphoma in the right thigh muscle was referred for recurrence evaluation with 18F-FDG PET/CT. After routine courses of chemoradiation, MRI was done in order to evaluate treatment response with inconclusive findings. 18FDG PET/CT revealed abnormal uptake in the primary site of the disease as well as secondary involvement of stomach, pancreas, pelvic lymph nodes, and both tibiae. Our case showed the importance of 18F-FDG PET/CT in the detection of unusual soft tissue extension of lymphoma

    99mTC-MDP bone scanning in a subungual glomus tumour

    A 37-year-old female patient with four months history of paroxysmal pain in the left index finger was referred to our department for 99mTC-MDP scintigraphy. Radiographic studies of the patient showed a lytic tumour in the distal phalanx of the left second finger compatible with a glomus tumour. The scan showed mild decreased activity in the blood pool phase and minimal increased activity on the delayed images. The patient underwent surgery and a glomus tumour was removed. To the extent of our knowledge, this is the first case of bone scan in a glomus tumour of the finger reported in the literature

    Brain metastases of PTC are rare and occur in 0.1-5% of the patients, especially in the poorly differentiated types that usually fail to concentrate iodine. We present a rare case of PTC with probable brain metastasis in a 58-year-old woman with a history of poorly differentiated PTC that showed elevated Tg levels and no metastasis was detected in the whole-body iodine scan, despite the positive 99m Tc-octreotide scintigraphy. This imaging modality could be helpful as a diagnostic guide for radionuclide therapy with labeled somatostatin analogs in cases of thyroid carcinoma with elevated Tg levels and negative whole-body iodine scan

    Multiple photopenic vertebrae in the bone scintigraphy of a young man with Gorham disease: CT and MRI correlation

    We report a rare pattern of extensive bone abnormalities on the Tc-99m MDP bone scintigraphy in a patient with Gorham disease. This rare condition is the result of vascular and lymphatic channel proliferation in bony structures which induce bone resorption. Our case is a 28-year-old man with a history of biopsy-proven soft tissue hemangioma in the left thigh, encountered with a recent diagnosis of multiple vertebral hemangiomata in the axial skeleton and progressive bony destructions in the pelvis on CT and MRI images, referred for bone scintigraphy.     Inadvertent Transfusion of Two Incompatible Blood Units: A Case Report

    Background: An incompatible blood transfusion may lead to hemolytic transfusion reactions and severe complications such as intravascular hemolysis, multiorgan failure, and even death. Prevention, early diagnosis, and treatments have the main roles to decrease transfusion complications. Cases Report: We present a case of a 43-year-old woman with a history of mandibular malignancy and facial reconstruction surgery who needed to blood transfusion due to a hemorrhage around her tracheostomy, and inadvertently 2 units of incompatible blood were transfused. The errors conduce to this issue and consideration to prevent and manage incompatible blood transfusions are discussed. Conclusion: This case showed that an effective technique for recognizing and avoiding transfusion mistakes is staff awareness of the potential errors at the bedside and in the laboratory. Furthermore, patients’ immunological status, early detection, and recognition of blood transfusion manifestation are critical factors for early diagnosis and treatment

    Prostatic bed calcification with MDP uptake: Easy to miss on planar images

    A 65 years old man with high-risk prostate adenocarcinoma underwent bone scintigraphy with 99mTc-methylene diphosphate (99mTc-MDP). The scan revealed a focus of radiotracer uptake in the left pubic region, which was suspicious for metastatic involvement. Additional imaging with single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT/CT) confined the uptake to be extra-osseous and contributed to the calcified zone in the prostate bed. Prostatic bed calcification with 99mTc-MDP uptake mimics metastasis and can be easily missed on planar images

    The Association Between Helicobacter pylori Infection With Different Types of Colon Cancer and Children’s Diseases: An Overview of Meta-analyses

    Objectives: Helicobacter pylori is a gram-negative curved bacillus that assumes a significant role in colon cancer and children´s diseases. This study aimed to examine the association between H. pylori infection with colon cancer and children´s diseases in order to achieve a comprehensive understanding of these associations and for future works. Methods: Three main databases (i.e., Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials [CENTRAL], Scopus, and MEDLINE) were systematically searched by two reviewers from their inception date to 2022 in order to determine the association between the H. pylori infection with the colon cancer and children’s diseases. Results: The findings of two meta-analyses were similar regarding the positive association between the risks of colorectal neoplasm (pooled OR=0.18; 95% CI of 0.99–1.40; P>0.05) and colon neoplasia (pooled OR=0.41; 95% confidence interval 1.24–1.60; P=0.000). H. pylori was associated with an increased risk of colorectal adenoma, adenocarcinoma, and advanced adenoma. Also H. pylori infection was correlated with a high risk of iron deficiency anemia (IDA), otitis media with effusion (OME), Henoch-Schonlein purpura, and growth disorders in children. Conclusions: In sum, the H. pylori infection may have been associated with an increased risk of colorectal cancer and children’s diseases

    Repositioning of the global epicentre of non-optimal cholesterol

    High blood cholesterol is typically considered a feature of wealthy western countries(1,2). However, dietary and behavioural determinants of blood cholesterol are changing rapidly throughout the world(3) and countries are using lipid-lowering medications at varying rates. These changes can have distinct effects on the levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and non-HDL cholesterol, which have different effects on human health(4,5). However, the trends of HDL and non-HDL cholesterol levels over time have not been previously reported in a global analysis. Here we pooled 1,127 population-based studies that measured blood lipids in 102.6 million individuals aged 18 years and older to estimate trends from 1980 to 2018 in mean total, non-HDL and HDL cholesterol levels for 200 countries. Globally, there was little change in total or non-HDL cholesterol from 1980 to 2018. This was a net effect of increases in low- and middle-income countries, especially in east and southeast Asia, and decreases in high-income western countries, especially those in northwestern Europe, and in central and eastern Europe. As a result, countries with the highest level of non-HDL cholesterol-which is a marker of cardiovascular riskchanged from those in western Europe such as Belgium, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and Malta in 1980 to those in Asia and the Pacific, such as Tokelau, Malaysia, The Philippines and Thailand. In 2017, high non-HDL cholesterol was responsible for an estimated 3.9 million (95% credible interval 3.7 million-4.2 million) worldwide deaths, half of which occurred in east, southeast and south Asia. The global repositioning of lipid-related risk, with non-optimal cholesterol shifting from a distinct feature of high-income countries in northwestern Europe, north America and Australasia to one that affects countries in east and southeast Asia and Oceania should motivate the use of population-based policies and personal interventions to improve nutrition and enhance access to treatment throughout the world.Peer reviewe
