Dermatoses of the Breast During Lactation
Dermatoses of the Breast during Lactation is a PowerPoint-based learning module that focuses on skin diseases of the breast and nipple that occur during lactation. It covers the diagnosis, workup, and management of a wide range of breast dermatoses with overlapping clinical presentations. Topics covered in this OER include differential diagnoses for breast masses, infections, nipple discharge, and nipple lesions. The goal of the module is to provide students with the ability to differentiate both physiologic and pathologic causes of breast dermatoses and gain awareness of the skin conditions that present in breastfeeding individuals. This module includes images and descriptions of clinical findings in different skin tones to prepare students to identify skin lesions in a diverse patient population
Using AI/ML to predict blending performance and process sensitivity for Continuous Direct Compression (CDC)
Utilising three artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML) tools, this study explores the prediction of fill level in inclined linear blenders at steady state by mapping a wide range of bulk powder characteristics to processing parameters. Predicting fill levels enables the calculation of blade passes (strain), known from existing literature to enhance content uniformity. We present and train three AI/ML models, each demonstrating unique predictive capabilities for fill level. These models collectively identify the following rank order of feature importance: RPM, Mixing Blade Region (MB) size, Wall Friction Angle (WFA), and Feed Rate (FR). Random Forest Regression, a machine learning algorithm that constructs a multitude of decision trees at training time and outputs the mode of the classes (classification) or mean prediction (regression) of the individual trees, develops a series of individually useful decision trees. but also allows the extraction of logic and breakpoints within the data. A novel tool which utilises smart optimisation and symbolic regression to model complex systems into simple, closed-form equations, is used to build an accurate reduced-order model. Finally, an Artificial Neural Network (ANN), though less interrogable emerges as the most accurate fill level predictor, with an r2 value of 0.97. Following training on single-component mixtures, the models are tested with a four-component powdered paracetamol formulation, mimicking an existing commercial drug product. The ANN predicts the fill level of this formulation at three RPMs (250, 350 and 450) with a mean absolute error of 1.4%. Ultimately, the modelling tools showcase a framework to better understand the interaction between process and formulation. The result of this allows for a first-time-right approach for formulation development whilst gaining process understanding from fewer experiments. Resulting in the ability to approach risk during product development whilst gaining a greater holistic understanding of the processing environment of the desired formulation.</p
Student politics, teaching politics, black politics: an interview with Ansel Wong
Ansel Wong is the quiet man of British black politics, rarely in the limelight and never seeking political office. And yet his âcareerâ here â from Black Power firebrand to managing a multimillion budget as head of the Greater London Councilâs Ethnic Minority Unit in the 1980s â spells out some of the most important developments in black educational and cultural projects. In this interview, he discusses his identification with Pan-Africanism, his involvement in student politics, his role in the establishment of youth projects and supplementary schools in the late 1960s and 1970s, and his involvement in black radical politics in London in the same period, all of which took place against the background of revolutionary ferment in the Third World and the world of ideas, and were not without their own internal class and ethnic conflicts
'Vernacular Voices: Black British Poetry'
ABSTRACT
Black British poetry is the province of experimenting with voice and recording rhythms beyond the iambic pentameter. Not only in performance poetry and through the spoken word, but also on the page, black British poetry constitutes and preserves a sound archive of distinct linguistic varieties. In Slave Song (1984) and Coolie Odyssey (1988), David Dabydeen employs a form of Guyanese Creole in order to linguistically render and thus commemorate the experience of slaves and indentured labourers, respectively, with the earlier collection providing annotated translations into Standard English. James Berry, Louise Bennett, and Valerie Bloom adapt Jamaican Patois to celebrate Jamaican folk culture and at times to represent and record experiences and linguistic interactions in the postcolonial metropolis. Grace Nichols and John Agard use modified forms of Guyanese Creole, with Nichols frequently constructing gendered voices whilst Agard often celebrates linguistic playfulness. The borders between linguistic varieties are by no means absolute or static, as the emergence and marked growth of âLondon Jamaicanâ (Mark Sebba) indicates. Asian British writer Daljit Nagra takes liberties with English for different reasons. Rather than having recourse to established Creole languages, and blending them with Standard English, his heteroglot poems frequently emulate âPunglishâ, the English of migrants whose first language is Punjabi. Whilst it is the language prestige of London Jamaican that has been significantly enhanced since the 1990s, a fact not only confirmed by linguistic research but also by its transethnic uses both in the streets and on the page, Nagraâs substantial success and the mainstream attention he receives also indicate the clout of vernacular voices in poetry. They have the potential to connect with oral traditions and cultural memories, to record linguistic varieties, and to endow âstreet credâ to authors and texts. In this chapter, these double-voiced poetic languages are also read as signs of resistance against residual monologic ideologies of Englishness.

Forging connections: anthologies, arts collectives, and the politics of inclusion
The changing social and political landscape of twentieth-century Britain catalysed a remarkable rise in collaborative activity by artists and activists of black and Asian heritage. Creative communities began to gather in both local and regional contexts, with the aim of sharing resources and securing an audience. This chapter records some of these many activities, tracing the groupsâ genesis, manifest objectives, and key contributions. It argues that anthologising should be understood as a specifically motivated activity. Literary anthologies of poetry and fiction served to showcase the diversity of contemporary writing, while also suggesting its coherence. Drawing on the concept of âstrategic essentialismâ elucidated by Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak, I show that the anthology acts to ensure the visibility of a group, bannered as a unified and singly-titled selection of texts, while also insisting on the differences within: the heterogeneous multiplicity of black and Asian British experiences and creative practices
