    A note on conditional risk measures of Orlicz spaces and Orlicz-type modules

    We consider conditional and dynamic risk measures of Orlicz spaces and study their robust representation. For this purpose, given a probability space (Ω,E,P)(\Omega,\mathcal{E},\mathbb{P}), a sub-σ\sigma-algebra F\mathcal{F} of E\mathcal{E}, and a Young function φ\varphi, we study the relation between the classical Orlicz space Lφ(E)L^\varphi(\mathcal{E}) and the modular Orlicz-type module LFφ(E)L^\varphi_\mathcal{F}(\mathcal{E}); based on conditional set theory, we describe the conditional order continuous dual of a Orlicz-type module; and by using scalarization and modular extensions of conditional risk measures together with elements of conditional set theory, we finally characterize the robust representation of conditional risk measures of Orlicz spaces

    This paper deals with the so-called Stanley conjecture, which asks whether they are non-isomorphic trees with the same symmetric function generalization of the chromatic polynomial. By establishing a correspondence between caterpillars trees and integer compositions, we prove that caterpillars in a large class (we call trees in this class proper) have the same symmetric chromatic function generalization of the chromatic polynomial if and only if they are isomorphic

    A simplified hydrokinetic model for a steady‐state microwave discharge sustained by traveling waves at atmospheric pressure conditions

    The properties of a microwave‐induced argon plasma produced by traveling surface wave at atmospheric pressure are investigated theoretically. A hydrokinetic model is elaborated to obtain the nonequilibrium one‐dimensional profiles of electron temperature Te (average electron energy), electron density ne, and the first excited state population density n4s, along the axis of a steady‐state discharge. A three‐level atomic structure is assumed for the argon atom. A particle balance is included through the continuity equations for ne and n4s. These equations are coupled with an energy balance equation for the electrons. The effects of different parameters on the properties of the argon discharge are investigated: discharge tube radius, gas flow rate, resonant radiation‐escape factor, and neutral gas temperature.Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia.     Expansiveness, Lyapunov exponents and entropy for set valued maps

    In this paper we introduce a notion of expansiveness for a set valued map defined on a topological space different from that given by Richard Williams at \cite{Wi, Wi2} and prove that the topological entropy of an expansive set valued map defined on a Peano space of positive dimension is greater than zero. We define Lyapunov exponent for set valued maps and prove that positiveness of its Lyapunov exponent implies positiveness for the topological entropy. Finally we introduce the definition of (Lyapunov) stable points for set valued maps and prove a dichotomy for the set of stable points for set valued maps defined on Peano spaces: either it is empty or the whole space.Comment: 24 pages, 1 figur

    On the Zitterbewegung Transient Regime in a Coarse-Grained Space-Time

    In the present contribution, by studying a fractional version of Dirac's equation for the electron, we show that the phenomenon of Zitterbewegung in a coarse-grained medium exhibits a transient oscillatory behavior, rather than a purely oscillatory regime, as it occurs in the integer case, α=1\alpha=1. Our result suggests that, in such systems, the Zitterbewegung-type term related to a trembling motion of a quasiparticle is tamed by its complex interactions with other particles and the medium. This can justify the difficulties in the observation of this interesting phenomenon. The possibility that the Zitterbewegung be accompanied by a damping factor supports the viewpoint of particle substructures in Quantum Mechanics.Comment: 11 pages, 1 figure.     A framework for lexical representation

    In this paper we present a unification-based lexical platform designed for highly inflected languages (like Roman ones). A formalism is proposed for encoding a lemma-based lexical source, well suited for linguistic generalizations. From this source, we automatically generate an allomorph indexed dictionary, adequate for efficient processing. A set of software tools have been implemented around this formalism: access libraries, morphological processors, etc.Comment: 9 page

    Managerial turnover and worker turnover

    We study the influence of the manager's degree of consolidation within the firm over the firm's labor policy. We argue that non-consolidated (recently-appointed) managers are more worried about short-term results than consolidated managers are. This feature leads the former to bias the labor contracting favoring short-term contracts. This has two main consequences. First, a higher variation in the number of workers hired in each period. And second, a lower increase in unitary labor costs. To contrast these results, we use a database of 1.054 Spanish companies during the period (1994-98), and analyze their managerial turnover as well as their corresponding variation in the number of workers and in unitary labor costs. The theoretical results are confirmed, especially for highly-productive R and D-intensive firms

    Impact of the Operations Manager's dual role on inventory policy

    In modern corporations, the Operations Manager’s role in defining of firm’s strategy is becoming more important. In this paper we describe how firms can use this tendency for Operations Managers to make strategic decisions as a mechanism to prevent inventory mismanagement. These managers have incentives to speculate with inventory cost reductions, thereby avoiding sharp reductions in a single period, because it would hinder further reductions in the future. Remarkably, firms may prevent such behavior by stimulating the Operations Managers’ strategic orientation, without losing sight of inventory-efficient management
