THE EXPLORATION OF CLINICIANS’ LIVED EXPERIENCES IN CULTURALLY ADAPTING EMPIRICALLY SUPPORTED TREATMENTS FOR AMERICAN INDIAN AND ALASKA NATIVE POPULATIONS
This study investigated the lived experiences of clinicians who have culturally adapted Empirically Supported Treatments (EST) for American Indian/Alaskan Native (AI/AN) populations. The central research question for this investigation was: What is the experience of mental health providers in culturally adapting empirically supported treatments for American Indian and Alaska Native populations? A guided semi-structured interview protocol was used to interview eight participants. Giorgi’s descriptive phenomenological psychological method was used to develop a general psychological structure representing eight essential constituents. They are: developing an understanding of cultural adaptation, focusing on building and maintaining therapeutic relationships, immersion and engagement with community, experiencing conflict between Western and Indigenous epistemology, navigating the use of empirically supported treatments, supporting traditional and culturally developed ways of healing, clinicians’ ability to embody cultural humility and increase cultural competency, and coping with external factors. Implications for practitioners, treatment developers, funders, academic programs, clients, and the counseling field are provided. Lastly, recommendations derived directly from the data, arising from limitations of the study, based on delimitations, and those relevant to the research problem are discussed
Development of Healthy Protein-Rich Crackers Using Tenebrio molitor Flour
Entomophagy is still a widespread practice in Africa and Asia, although it is declining
due to the westernization of diets. Today, the issue of its rehabilitation is underway; indeed, the
nutritional economic and ecological stakes of this consumption are strategic. It can be considered an
important way to face the scarcity of natural resources, environmental pressures due to the increasing
world population, and demand for protein. Tenebrio molitor larvae flour was recently approved by
the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) as a novel food. The aim of the present work was to
create protein-rich healthy cracker from insect flour, achieving the claim “source of protein” with a
target market focused on the healthy products for consumption on the go. Contents of T. molitor flour
from 2 to 20% (%w/w) were tested, using a previously optimized formulation and the comparison in
terms of nutritional, physical, and sensory properties with a standard formulation was performed.
T. molitor incorporation allowed an improvement in the nutritional profile of snacks, through an
increase of 15% in protein content and an enrichment in minerals (namely potassium, phosphorus,
copper, and zinc). The crackers containing a 6% of insect flour were the most appreciated by the
panelists. The incorporation of T. molitor induced a reduction in firmness and an increase in crispness,
resulting from the impact of the protein on the structure. This aspect has a positive impact with
respect of the acceptance of snacks—70% of the panelists consider the possibility to buy the crackers
with 6% enrichment. A darkening of the samples with the increase in the incorporation of T. molitor
flour was also observed, accompanied by a reduction of about 20% of the L* values. Globally, insect
protein can play an important role in redesigning food diets, making them more sustainable, with
less environmental impact and equally balancedinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Thermal Conductivity of Carbon Nanotubes and their Polymer Nanocomposites: A Review
Thermally conductive polymer composites offer new possibilities for replacing metal parts in several applications, including power electronics, electric motors and generators, heat exchangers, etc., thanks to the polymer advantages such as light weight, corrosion resistance and ease of processing. Current interest to improve the thermal conductivity of polymers is focused on the selective addition of nanofillers with high thermal conductivity. Unusually high thermal conductivity makes carbon nanotube (CNT) the best promising candidate material for thermally conductive composites. However, the thermal conductivities of polymer/CNT nanocomposites are relatively low compared with expectations from the intrinsic thermal conductivity of CNTs. The challenge primarily comes from the large interfacial thermal resistance between the CNT and the surrounding polymer matrix, which hinders the transfer of phonon dominating heat conduction in polymer and CNT. This article reviews the status of worldwide research in the thermal conductivity of CNTs and their polymer nanocomposites. The dependence of thermal conductivity of nanotubes on the atomic structure, the tube size, the morphology, the defect and the purification is reviewed. The roles of particle/polymer and particle/particle interfaces on the thermal conductivity of polymer/CNT nanocomposites are discussed in detail, as well as the relationship between the thermal conductivity and the micro- and nano-structure of the composite
Tourism in sub-global assessments of ecosystem services
Published in 2005, the United Nations Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (MA) stressed that influencing governments, businesses and communities to address the supra-national challenge of limiting biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation requires a fuller understanding of the range of values and benefits people derive from ecosystems, including tourism. The MA was informed by, and has shaped, several conceptually and methodologically distinctive sub-global assessments (SGAs) of ecosystem services. Through content analysis, this paper is the first detailed examination of how tourism features in 14 extant SGAs identified in a database held by a major supra-national environmental organization. Although the SGAs should have incorporated the widest range of specialist subject expertise, tourism scholars played only peripheral roles in producing them even for territories where tourism is a significant land use. The SGAs examined did not benefit from the extensive body of knowledge relating to sustainable tourism. Limited portrayals of tourism restrict the capacity of SGAs in their current format as management solutions. It is also contradictory to the ethos, principles and purpose of ecosystem assessments. With the ecosystem services perspective set to become more important to policy and decision making, the paper argues for greater incorporation of recent progress in sustainable tourism in ecosystem assessment
