Search for direct production of charginos and neutralinos in events with three leptons and missing transverse momentum in √s = 7 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector
A search for the direct production of charginos and neutralinos in final states with three electrons or muons and missing transverse momentum is presented. The analysis is based on 4.7 fb−1 of proton–proton collision data delivered by the Large Hadron Collider and recorded with the ATLAS detector. Observations are consistent with Standard Model expectations in three signal regions that are either depleted or enriched in Z-boson decays. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set in R-parity conserving phenomenological minimal supersymmetric models and in simplified models, significantly extending previous results
Jet size dependence of single jet suppression in lead-lead collisions at sqrt(s(NN)) = 2.76 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC
Measurements of inclusive jet suppression in heavy ion collisions at the LHC
provide direct sensitivity to the physics of jet quenching. In a sample of
lead-lead collisions at sqrt(s) = 2.76 TeV corresponding to an integrated
luminosity of approximately 7 inverse microbarns, ATLAS has measured jets with
a calorimeter over the pseudorapidity interval |eta| < 2.1 and over the
transverse momentum range 38 < pT < 210 GeV. Jets were reconstructed using the
anti-kt algorithm with values for the distance parameter that determines the
nominal jet radius of R = 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5. The centrality dependence of
the jet yield is characterized by the jet "central-to-peripheral ratio," Rcp.
Jet production is found to be suppressed by approximately a factor of two in
the 10% most central collisions relative to peripheral collisions. Rcp varies
smoothly with centrality as characterized by the number of participating
nucleons. The observed suppression is only weakly dependent on jet radius and
transverse momentum. These results provide the first direct measurement of
inclusive jet suppression in heavy ion collisions and complement previous
measurements of dijet transverse energy imbalance at the LHC.Comment: 15 pages plus author list (30 pages total), 8 figures, 2 tables,

Community-led comparative genomic and phenotypic analysis of the aquaculture pathogen Pseudomonas baetica a390T sequenced by Ion semiconductor and Nanopore technologies
Pseudomonas baetica strain a390T is the type strain of this recently described species and here we present its high-contiguity draft genome. To celebrate the 16th International Conference on Pseudomonas, the genome of P. baetica strain a390T was sequenced using a unique combination of Ion Torrent semiconductor and Oxford Nanopore methods as part of a collaborative community-led project. The use of high-quality Ion Torrent sequences with long Nanopore reads gave rapid, high-contiguity and -quality, 16-contig genome sequence. Whole genome phylogenetic analysis places P. baetica within the P. koreensis Glade of the P. fluorescens group. Comparison of the main genomic features of P. baetica with a variety of other Pseudomonas spp. suggests that it is a highly adaptable organism, typical of the genus. This strain was originally isolated from the liver of a diseased wedge sole fish, and genotypic and phenotypic analyses show that it is tolerant to osmotic stress and to oxytetracycline.Microbial Biotechnolog
Measurement of ZZ production in leptonic final states at {\surd}s of 1.96 TeV at CDF
In this paper we present a precise measurement of the total ZZ production
cross section in pp collisions at {\surd}s= 1.96 TeV, using data collected with
the CDF II detector corresponding to an integrated luminosity of approximately
6 fb-1. The result is obtained by combining separate measurements in the
four-charged (lll'l'), and two-charged-lepton and two-neutral-lepton (llvv)
decay modes of the Z. The combined measured cross section for pp {\to} ZZ is
1.64^(+0.44)_(-0.38) pb. This is the most precise measurement of the ZZ
production cross section in 1.96 TeV pp collisions to date.Comment: submitted to Phys. Rev. Let
Demonstration and localization of growth hormone receptor in human skin and skin fibroblasts
Clinical evidence suggests that skin is responsive to GH status in vivo. We sought to demonstrate the presence of GH receptors in human skin and in cultured skin fibroblasts using the techniques of immunohistochemistry and northern blotting
Experimental and computational studies of structure and bonding in parent and reduced forms of the azo dye Orange II
The structure and bonding of the azo dye Orange II (Acid Orange 7) in parent and reduced forms have been studied using NMR, infrared, Raman, UV−visible, and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy, allied with density functional theory (DFT) calculations on three hydrazone models (no sulfonate, anionic sulfonate, and protonated sulfonate) and one azo model (protonated sulfonate). The calculated structures of the three hydrazone models are similar to each other and that of the model without a sulfonate group (Solvent Yellow 14) closely matches its reported crystal structure. The 1H and 13C NMR resonances of Orange II, assigned directly from 1D and 2D experimental data, indicate that it is present as ≥95% hydrazone in aqueous solution, and as a ca. 70:30 hydrazone:azo mixture in dimethyl sulfoxide at 300 K. Overall, the experimental data from Orange II are matched well by calculations on the hydrazone model with a protonated sulfonate group; the IR, Raman, and UV−visible spectra of Orange II are assigned to specific vibrational modes and electronic transitions calculated for this model. The EPR spectrum obtained on one-electron reduction of Orange II by the 2-hydroxy-2-propyl radical (•CMe2OH) at pH 4 is attributed to the hydrazyl radical produced on protonation of the radical anion. Calculations on reduced forms of the model dyes support this assignment, with electron spin density on the two nitrogen atoms and the naphthyl ring; in addition, they provide estimates of the structures, vibrational spectra, and electronic transitions of the radicals
Immunoreactive growth hormone receptor/binding protein is present on fibroblasts and in serum of Laron-type dwarfs
Laron-type dwarfism is an autosomal recessive disorder characterised by extreme growth retardation and growth hormone (GH) resistance and has been shown in some cases to be associated with mutations in the GH receptor gene. Limited data suggest that in this condition specific liver GH binding is absent. In the majority of reported cases specific GH binding is also absent in serum. However it is not known whether the GH receptor and/or the serum GH binding protein are expressed in this condition
