Thermal 3-D model of a rural area building is proposed. The model includes constructive, finite element, analytical and computational models which are created using SolidWorks software (constructive model) and COMSOL Multiphysics software (finite element, analytical and computational models). An additional object was created for modeling heat transfer process in the whole volume of building. Studies have shown model efficiency and possibility of its application for optimizing building isolation.

Local climate change (rise of mean temperatures and amount of precipitation, prolongation of frost-free season) triggers further distribution, and increase in numbers of animals – carriers and vectors of West Nile fever virus in the territory of the Saratov region. Based on the results of ecological-epizootiological monitoring (2006–2012) traced out have been the species composition, abundance dynamics, and character of distribution of birds habitant in aquatic and anthropogenic complexes, mosquitoes and Ixodidae ticks. Investigated are possible causes of West Nile fever nosoarea expansion, related to ecology of migrating birds wintering in Africa. Persistent circulation of the virus in intra-zonal inundated biocoenosis facilitates formation of secondary natural foci of West Nile fever and factors into epidemic complications as regards this particularly dangerous vector-borne infection. On the basis of analytical data concerning hydrographic network density, fauna structure, population numbers of birds and mosquitoes – potential carriers and vectors of WNF, epizootiological and epidemiological surveillance, designed has been expectation-driven forecasting map chart which illustrates possibility of sustainable WNF foci formation in various territories of the Saratov region

Studies of West Nile Virus Circulation in the Territory of the Saratov Region in 2010

Presented are the results of ecological and epizootiological surveillance of the territory of the Saratov region, which was carried out in autumn of 2010. The surveillance was aimed at detection of West Nile (WN) virus circulation and premises for WN Fever natural focus formation. It is demonstrated that in 2010 WN virus circulation took place in damp biotopes of the Saratov region territory, and that common species of small mammals were involved in it. Presented are the results of analysis of the WN virus role in the infectious pathology in the territory of the Saratov region

Discourse and religion in educational practice

    Get PDF
Despite the existence of long-held binaries between secular and sacred, private and public spaces, school and religious literacies in many contemporary societies, the significance of religion and its relationship to education and society more broadly has become increasingly topical. Yet, it is only recently that the investigation of the nexus of discourse and religion in educational practice has started to receive some scholarly attention. In this chapter, religion is understood as a cultural practice, historically situated and embedded in specific local and global contexts. This view of religion stresses the social alongside the subjective or experiential dimensions. It explores how through active participation and apprenticeship in culturally appropriate practices and behaviors often mediated intergenerationally and the mobilisation of linguistic and other semiotic resources but also affective, social and material resources, membership in religious communities is constructed and affirmed. The chapter reviews research strands that have explored different aspects of discourse and religion in educational practice as a growing interdisciplinary field. Research strands have examined the place and purpose of religion in general and evangelical Christianity in particular in English Language Teaching (ELT) programmes and the interplay of religion and teaching and learning in a wide range of religious and increasingly secular educational contexts. They provide useful insights for scholars of discourse studies to issues of identity, socialisation, pedagogy and language policy

Identifying the Determinants of Regional Raw Milk Prices in Russia Using Machine Learning

In this study, official data from Russia’s regions for the period from 2015 to 2019 were analysed on the basis of 12 predictor variables in order to explain the regional raw milk price. Model training and hyperparameter optimisation were performed with a spatiotemporal cross-validation technique using the machine learning (ML) algorithm. The findings of the study showed that the RF algorithm had a good predictive performance Variable importance revealed that drinking milk production, income, livestock numbers and population density are the four most important determinants to explain the variation in regional raw milk prices in Russia

Can the Fourth Industrial Revolution - Industry 4.0 - Hold the Future for Africa´s Industrialisation? Case Study of Kenya

Abstract The world has seen three industrial revolutions and now it embraces the fourth. The fourth industrial revolution, (globalisation 4.0) or as this study uses industry 4.0, follows onto the third industrial revolution by connecting digital, material and living spheres. The narrative of Africa rising, and the related expansion of mobile phone motivated the thesis interest. As past development policies showed to be ineffective for Africa´s industrialisation, the thesis explores how so-called industry 4.0 characterised with technologies of speed, scope and systems can accelerate industrialisation in emerging economies such as Kenya and repeat the East Asian miracle. Review of past and recent models of industrialisation provided a theoretical proposition to build a theoretical framework. The study uses qualitative exploratory research methods to the instrumental case study of Kenya. Data collection combined findings from semi-structured interviews and results from previous studies. The case was analysed using themes from findings in relation to the theoretical framework. The analysis shows that industry 4.0 characterised by ICT innovation stimulates Africa´s share in the global economy. Findings reveal that industry 4.0 innovations drive services, business and consumption by providing access to financial services. The use of digital platforms increases market share and potential for Africa to develop a comparative advantage. Digital platforms provide the opportunity to reduce the informal sector and formalise it via mobile payments

Determinants of Regional Raw Milk Prices in Russia

Drivers of regional milk price differences across Russian regions are difficult to determine due to limited data availability and restrictions on data collection. In this study, official data from Russian regions for the period from 2013 to 2018 was analysed based on 18 predictor variables in order to explain the regional raw milk price. Due to various data-based restrictions, the use of conventional panel regression models was limited and the analysis was therefore performed based on a Random Forest (RF) machine learning algorithm. Model training and hyperparameter optimization was performed on the training data set with time folds cross-validation. The findings of the study showed that the RF algorithm has a good predictive performance in the test data set even with the default RF values. Finally, the RF variable importance showed that income, gross regional product, livestock density, and milk yield are the four most important variables for explaining the variation in regional milk prices
