EVLA Observations Constrain the Environment and Progenitor System of Type Ia Supernova 2011fe
We report unique EVLA observations of SN 2011fe representing the most
sensitive radio study of a Type Ia supernova to date. Our data place direct
constraints on the density of the surrounding medium at radii ~10^15-10^16 cm,
implying an upper limit on the mass loss rate from the progenitor system of
Mdot <~ 6 x 10^-10 Msol/yr (assuming a wind speed of 100 km/s), or expansion
into a uniform medium with density n_CSM <~ 6 cm^-3. Drawing from the observed
properties of non-conservative mass transfer among accreting white dwarfs, we
use these limits on the density of the immediate environs to exclude a phase
space of possible progenitors systems for SN 2011fe. We rule out a symbiotic
progenitor system and also a system characterized by high accretion rate onto
the white dwarf that is expected to give rise to optically-thick accretion
winds. Assuming that a small fraction, 1%, of the mass accreted is lost from
the progenitor system, we also eliminate much of the potential progenitor
parameter space for white dwarfs hosting recurrent novae or undergoing stable
nuclear burning. Therefore, we rule out the most popular single degenerate
progenitor models for SN 2011fe, leaving a limited phase space inhabited by
some double degenerate systems and exotic progenitor scenarios.Comment: Accepted to Ap
Politics in Spain: A Case of Monitory Democracy
Analysing the current political context in Spain is a major challenge to political theory. Spain is experiencing the accumulation of trends that in recent years have focused the attention of most theorists and political scientists: discrediting of the major parties, falling numbers of party members, disaffection, etc. In parallel, this trend has been accompanied by citizen mobilisations that, since 15 May 2011, are manifest in numerous channels and strategies. The aim of this paper was to analyse the complex Spanish context from the monitory democracy proposal. The results show how in recent years processes of public scrutiny have been consolidated through a range of citizen initiatives. The study offers an in-depth analysis of the main characteristics of the most notable cases and monitoring initiatives, and also reflects on their democratising potential.El anĂĄlisis del contexto polĂtico actual en EspaĂąa es un reto importante para la teorĂa polĂtica. EspaĂąa estĂĄ experimentando la acumulaciĂłn de tendencias que en aĂąos recientes han centrado la atenciĂłn de la mayor parte de teĂłricos y cientĂficos polĂticos: desacreditaciĂłn de los principales partidos, caĂda del nĂşmero de miembros de los partidos, desafecciĂłn, etc. Paralelamente, esta tendencia se ha visto acompaĂąada por movilizaciones ciudadanas que, desde el 15 de mayo de 2011, son manifiestas en numerosos canales y estrategias. BVRI Light Curves for 29 Type Ia Supernovae
BVRI light curves are presented for 27 Type Ia supernovae discovered during
the course of the Calan/Tololo Survey and for two other SNe Ia observed during
the same period. Estimates of the maximum light magnitudes in the B, V, and I

Finite Element Analysis of Free Vibration of the Delaminated Composite Plate with Variable Kinematic Multilayered Plate Elements
Composite laminates are prone to delamination. Implementation of delamination in the Carrera Unified Formulation frame work using nine noded quadrilateral MITC9 element is discussed in this article. MITC9 element is devoid of shear locking and membrane locking. Delaminated as well as healthy structure is analyzed for free mode vibration. The results from the present work are compared with the available experimental or/and research article or/and the three dimensional finite element simulations. The effect of different kinds and different percentages of area of delamination on the first three natural frequencies of the structure is discussed. The presence of open-mode delamination mode shape for large delaminations within the first three natural frequencies is discussed. Also, the switching of places between the second bending mode, with that of the first torsional mode frequency is discussed. Results obtained from different ordered theories are compared in the presence of delamination. Advantage of layerwise theories as compared to equivalent single layer theories for very large delaminations is stated. The effect of different kinds of delamination and their effect on the second bending and first torsional mode shape is discussed. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved
Discovery of Tantalum, Rhenium, Osmium, and Iridium Isotopes
Currently, thirty-eight tantalum, thirty-eight rhenium, thirty-nine osmium,
and thirty-eight iridium, isotopes have been observed and the discovery of
these isotopes is discussed here. For each isotope a brief synopsis of the
first refereed publication, including the production and identification method,

Search for CP Violation in the Decay Z -> b (b bar) g
About three million hadronic decays of the Z collected by ALEPH in the years
1991-1994 are used to search for anomalous CP violation beyond the Standard
Model in the decay Z -> b \bar{b} g. The study is performed by analyzing
angular correlations between the two quarks and the gluon in three-jet events
and by measuring the differential two-jet rate. No signal of CP violation is
found. For the combinations of anomalous CP violating couplings, and , limits of \hat{h}_b < 0.59h^{\ast}_{b} < 3.02$ are given at 95\% CL.Comment: 8 pages, 1 postscript figure, uses here.sty, epsfig.st
Single hadron response measurement and calorimeter jet energy scale uncertainty with the ATLAS detector at the LHC
The uncertainty on the calorimeter energy response to jets of particles is
derived for the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). First, the
calorimeter response to single isolated charged hadrons is measured and
compared to the Monte Carlo simulation using proton-proton collisions at
centre-of-mass energies of sqrt(s) = 900 GeV and 7 TeV collected during 2009
and 2010. Then, using the decay of K_s and Lambda particles, the calorimeter
response to specific types of particles (positively and negatively charged
pions, protons, and anti-protons) is measured and compared to the Monte Carlo
predictions. Finally, the jet energy scale uncertainty is determined by
propagating the response uncertainty for single charged and neutral particles
to jets. The response uncertainty is 2-5% for central isolated hadrons and 1-3%

Standalone vertex ďŹnding in the ATLAS muon spectrometer
A dedicated reconstruction algorithm to find decay vertices in the ATLAS muon spectrometer is presented. The algorithm searches the region just upstream of or inside the muon spectrometer volume for multi-particle vertices that originate from the decay of particles with long decay paths. The performance of the algorithm is evaluated using both a sample of simulated Higgs boson events, in which the Higgs boson decays to long-lived neutral particles that in turn decay to bbar b final states, and pp collision data at âs = 7 TeV collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC during 2011
