Our study on granitic and gneissic rock outcrops on Pedra dos Pontões in Espírito Santo state contributes to the knowledge of the vascular flora of inselbergs in southeastern Brazil. We registered 211 species distributed among 51 families and 130 genera. Orchidaceae, Bromeliaceae and Polypodiaceae were the most representative families. Concerning vegetative habit, herbs were predominant and about the preference for substrates, holorupicolous species and epiphytes were most speciose. The richest rocky habitat type was woody thicket, with 122 exclusive species. In total, 27 of the species registered in our study are cited on official lists of endangered plant species from Espírito Santo state and Brazil. In addition, two new records of angiosperms for Espírito Santo flora and two new species were recorded for the area. Our data demonstrates the importance of the area for conservation of unique biodiversity that serves as a sanctuary for a rich rupicolous flora composed of endemic and endangered species, some of which are new to science. © 2017 Check List and Authors.13

Online Job Search: A Study on Optimizing Online Platforms to Facilitate Effective Job Search

Technological advancement along with the expanding number of users and internet-based businesses have created a worldwide market for both job recruiters and job seekers. This has drastically changed areas of job searching and job recruiting. Traditional methods of recruiting and job hunting have been obsoleting since the introduction of digitalized platforms to perform these tasks, leading to better results when matching the intents of job recruiters to job seekers. There are numerous online job search platforms but everyone one of them contains some major issues. We have examined the related studies and identified that these issues exist in the areas of screening job applications, optimizing job search queries, and demographic inequity in candidate selection. Although these topics have been researched independently, there is a lack of implementational solutions available to address all these issues together. As a result of our study on this deficiency, we have come up with a practical solution implemented as a web application addressing these issues and providing job seekers and job recruiters with an online platform with enhanced accuracy and user experience

Nariai, Bertotti-Robinson and anti-Nariai solutions in higher dimensions

We find all the higher dimensional solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell theory that are the topological product of two manifolds of constant curvature. These solutions include the higher dimensional Nariai, Bertotti-Robinson and anti-Nariai solutions, and the anti-de Sitter Bertotti-Robinson solutions with toroidal and hyperbolic topology (Plebanski-Hacyan solutions). We give explicit results for any dimension D>3. These solutions are generated from the appropriate extremal limits of the higher dimensional near-extreme black holes in a de Sitter, and anti-de Sitter backgrounds. Thus, we also find the mass and the charge parameters of the higher dimensional extreme black holes as a function of the radius of the degenerate horizon.Comment: 10 pages, 11 figures, RevTeX4. The extremal limits of the C-metric: Nariai, Bertotti-Robinson and anti-Nariai C-metrics

In two previous papers we have analyzed the C-metric in a background with a cosmological constant, namely the de Sitter (dS) C-metric, and the anti-de Sitter (AdS) C-metric, following the work of Kinnersley and Walker for the flat C-metric. These exact solutions describe a pair of accelerated black holes in the flat or cosmological constant background, with the acceleration A being provided by a strut in-between that pushes away the two black holes. In this paper we analyze the extremal limits of the C-metric in a background with generic cosmological constant. We follow a procedure first introduced by Ginsparg and Perry in which the Nariai solution, a spacetime which is the direct topological product of the 2-dimensional dS and a 2-sphere, is generated from the four-dimensional dS-Schwarzschild solution by taking an appropriate limit, where the black hole event horizon approaches the cosmological horizon. Similarly, one can generate the Bertotti-Robinson metric from the Reissner-Nordstrom metric by taking the limit of the Cauchy horizon going into the event horizon of the black hole, as well as the anti-Nariai by taking an appropriate solution and limit. Using these methods we generate the C-metric counterparts of the Nariai, Bertotti-Robinson and anti-Nariai solutions, among others. One expects that the solutions found in this paper are unstable and decay into a slightly non-extreme black hole pair accelerated by a strut or by strings. Moreover, the Euclidean version of these solutions mediate the quantum process of black hole pair creation, that accompanies the decay of the dS and AdS spaces

Objective: To evaluate the pre-, intra- and postoperative data of ruptured thoracoabdominal aneurysms operated at Hospital de Clínicas da Universidade Estadual de Campinas. Methods: A retrospective study of five patients submitted to repair of ruptured thoracoabdominal aneurysm at Hospital de Clínicas da Universidade Estadual de Campinas from September 2000 to April 2004. All patients presented a ruptured type IV thoracoabdominal aneurysm, and four of them were hemodynamically stable. Three patients were operated by the simple supraceliac aortic clamping and saline solution infusion at 4°C in the renal arteries; one patient died during the surgery before the aneurysm was opened; and one patient was operated by perfusion of oxygenated blood in the visceral arteries. Results: Of the five patients operated, two died (40%). One of them presented hemodynamic instability and died during the surgery; the other patient died on the 26 th postoperative day due to multiple organ failure. All three surviving patients progressed well, with no sequelae. Among patients who were taken to the operating room hemodynamically stable, the mortality rate was 25%. Conclusions: Patients with ruptured type IV thoracoabdominal aneurysm, hemodynamically stable, achieved satisfactory surgical results, similar to infrarenal ruptured aneurysms. Hematological and biochemical parameters, including plasma electrolytes and thyroid hormones, were determined in 73 clinically healthy Churra-da-Terra-Quente ewes, a typical breed from the northeast of Portugal. The hemogram values were: erythrocytes 9.8±1.51012/L; haemoglobin 118.1±19.1g/L; haematocrit 40.8±5.9%; leukocytes 5.7±1.8109/L; and platelets 544.3±177.2109/L. The thrombin time was 17.3±1.7 seconds. The values of biochemical parameters were: total protein 76.4±6.1g/L; glucose 2.87±0.60mmol/L; total cholesterol 1.65±0.33mmol/L; aspartate aminotransferase 155.9±49.2U/L; alanine aminotransferase 23.2±9.6U/L; γ-glutamyl transferase 48.0±18.7U/L; total alkaline phosphatase 121.6±76.1U/L; glutamate dehydrogenase 6.4±3.7U/L; urea 7.32±2.22mmol/L; creatinine 123.0±54.1μmol/L; total calcium 2.53±0.25mmol/L; phosphorus 2.10±0.46mmol/L; magnesium 1.01±0.09mmol/L; sodium 152.04±3.65mmol/L; potassium 4.7±0.4mmol/L; ionized calcium 1.32±0.07mmol/L; total thyroxine 111.75±42.29nmol/L; total triiodothyronine 1.01±0.28nmol/L; free T4 11.93±1.78pmol/L; free T3 4.22±1.33pmol/L; and thyroid-stimulating hormone 0.18±0.19μIU/mL. Although differences among the Churra-da-Terra-Quente breed and other breeds may occur, the hematological and biochemical parameters, plasma electrolytes, and thyroid hormones, for this indigenous breed, were generally situated within the reference intervals previously reported for sheep
