    From non-Brownian Functionals to a Fractional Schr\"odinger Equation

    We derive backward and forward fractional Schr\"odinger type of equations for the distribution of functionals of the path of a particle undergoing anomalous diffusion. Fractional substantial derivatives introduced by Friedrich and co-workers [PRL {\bf 96}, 230601 (2006)] provide the correct fractional framework for the problem at hand. In the limit of normal diffusion we recover the Feynman-Kac treatment of Brownian functionals. For applications, we calculate the distribution of occupation times in half space and show how statistics of anomalous functionals is related to weak ergodicity breaking.Comment: 5 page

    On distributions of functionals of anomalous diffusion paths

    Functionals of Brownian motion have diverse applications in physics, mathematics, and other fields. The probability density function (PDF) of Brownian functionals satisfies the Feynman-Kac formula, which is a Schrodinger equation in imaginary time. In recent years there is a growing interest in particular functionals of non-Brownian motion, or anomalous diffusion, but no equation existed for their PDF. Here, we derive a fractional generalization of the Feynman-Kac equation for functionals of anomalous paths based on sub-diffusive continuous-time random walk. We also derive a backward equation and a generalization to Levy flights. Solutions are presented for a wide number of applications including the occupation time in half space and in an interval, the first passage time, the maximal displacement, and the hitting probability. We briefly discuss other fractional Schrodinger equations that recently appeared in the literature.Comment: 25 pages, 4 figure

    Small punch technique used to evaluate the radiation damage in SS316L thin foils due to proton bombardment

    The mechanical properties characterization of thin foils to be used as target in high intensity accelerator requires non standards techniques. Previous studies, focused on foils after annealed, cold rolled and heat treatment after rolled, in addition to foils at different thickness, have been carried out to estimate the sensitivity of the small punch test (SPT) technique in foils. In this research we studied the degradation of the mechanical properties of foils due to irradiation damage by high intensity proton beams. For this new study, two samples of SS316L foils have 25 μm thickness were exposed to proton bombardment at 3.6 MeV, and approximately 300 μA of current for a period of 3 hours and 40 hours, separately. The SPT technique revealed that the un-irradiated specimens exhibited the largest load and deformation before failure, rather than the irradiated foils. The electron microscopy observations (SEM) revealed high cross slips and pseudo-cleavage density combined with multiple deformation twinning after irradiation to high energy. The mechanical behavior can be explained by the microstructure. The crack propagation path is in a zigzag fracture mode when multiple deformation twinning occurs close to the stretched zone of the foil and failure. Changes of the SPT measurements were found and the degradation from ductile to brittle crack mode is attributed to radiation damage effects

    Cu(I) Controls Conformational States in Human Atox1 Metallochaperone: An EPR and Multiscale Simulation Study

    Atox1 is a human copper metallochaperone that is responsible for transferring copper ions from the main human copper transporter, hCtr1, to ATP7A/B in the Golgi apparatus. Atox1 interacts with the Ctr1 C-terminal domain as a dimer, although it transfers the copper ions to ATP7A/B in a monomeric form. The copper binding site in the Atox1 dimer involves Cys12 and Cys15, while Lys60 was also suggested to play a role in the copper binding. We recently showed that Atox1 can adopt various conformational states, depending on the interacting protein. In the current study, we apply EPR experiments together with hybrid quantum mechanics-molecular mechanics molecular dynamics simulations using a recently developed semiempirical density functional theory approach, to better understand the effect of Atox1's conformational states on copper coordination. We propose that the flexibility of Atox1 occurs owing to protonation of one or more of the cysteine residues, and that Cys15 is an important residue for Atox1 dimerization, while Cys12 is a critical residue for Cu(I) binding. We also show that Lys60 electrostatically stabilizes the Cu(I)-Atox1 dimer

This data holds valuable knowledge that, beyond supporting a wide range of medical and healthcare functions such as clinical decision support, can be used for improving profits and cutting down on wasted overhead. The evaluation and analysis of stored clinical data may lead to the discovery of trends and patterns that can significantly enhance overall understanding of disease progression and clinical management. Data mining techniques aim precisely at the extraction of useful knowledge from raw data. This work describes an implementation of a data mining project approach to predict the hospitalization period of cardiovascular accident patients. This provides an effective tool for the hospital cost containment and management efficiency. The data used for this project contains information about patients hospitalized in Cardiovascular Accident’s unit in 2016 for having suffered a stroke.     Measurement of the cross-section and charge asymmetry of WW bosons produced in proton-proton collisions at s=8\sqrt{s}=8 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    This paper presents measurements of the W+μ+νW^+ \rightarrow \mu^+\nu and WμνW^- \rightarrow \mu^-\nu cross-sections and the associated charge asymmetry as a function of the absolute pseudorapidity of the decay muon. The data were collected in proton--proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC and correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 20.2~\mbox{fb^{-1}}. The precision of the cross-section measurements varies between 0.8% to 1.5% as a function of the pseudorapidity, excluding the 1.9% uncertainty on the integrated luminosity. The charge asymmetry is measured with an uncertainty between 0.002 and 0.003. The results are compared with predictions based on next-to-next-to-leading-order calculations with various parton distribution functions and have the sensitivity to discriminate between them.Comment: 38 pages in total, author list starting page 22, 5 figures, 4 tables, submitted to EPJC.     Search for chargino-neutralino production with mass splittings near the electroweak scale in three-lepton final states in √s=13 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector

    A search for supersymmetry through the pair production of electroweakinos with mass splittings near the electroweak scale and decaying via on-shell W and Z bosons is presented for a three-lepton final state. The analyzed proton-proton collision data taken at a center-of-mass energy of √s=13  TeV were collected between 2015 and 2018 by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139  fb−1. A search, emulating the recursive jigsaw reconstruction technique with easily reproducible laboratory-frame variables, is performed. The two excesses observed in the 2015–2016 data recursive jigsaw analysis in the low-mass three-lepton phase space are reproduced. Results with the full data set are in agreement with the Standard Model expectations. They are interpreted to set exclusion limits at the 95% confidence level on simplified models of chargino-neutralino pair production for masses up to 345 GeV

    Search for direct stau production in events with two hadronic tau-leptons in root s=13 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector

    A search for the direct production of the supersymmetric partners ofτ-leptons (staus) in final stateswith two hadronically decayingτ-leptons is presented. The analysis uses a dataset of pp collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of139fb−1, recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LargeHadron Collider at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. No significant deviation from the expected StandardModel background is observed. Limits are derived in scenarios of direct production of stau pairs with eachstau decaying into the stable lightest neutralino and oneτ-lepton in simplified models where the two staumass eigenstates are degenerate. Stau masses from 120 GeV to 390 GeV are excluded at 95% confidencelevel for a massless lightest neutralino

    Search for new phenomena in final states with an energetic jet and large missing transverse momentum in pp collisions at √ s = 8 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    Results of a search for new phenomena in final states with an energetic jet and large missing transverse momentum are reported. The search uses 20.3 fb−1 of √ s = 8 TeV data collected in 2012 with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Events are required to have at least one jet with pT > 120 GeV and no leptons. Nine signal regions are considered with increasing missing transverse momentum requirements between Emiss T > 150 GeV and Emiss T > 700 GeV. Good agreement is observed between the number of events in data and Standard Model expectations. The results are translated into exclusion limits on models with either large extra spatial dimensions, pair production of weakly interacting dark matter candidates, or production of very light gravitinos in a gauge-mediated supersymmetric model.     Search for Higgs bosons produced via vector-boson fusion and decaying into bottom quark pairs in √s =13 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector

    A search for the bb ¯ decay of the Standard Model Higgs boson produced through vector-boson fusion is presented. Three mutually exclusive channels are considered: two all-hadronic channels and a photon-associated channel. Results are reported from the analysis of up to 30.6 fb −1 of pp data at s √ =13 TeV collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The measured signal strength relative to the Standard Model prediction from the combined analysis is 2.5 +1.4 −1.3 for inclusive Higgs boson production and 3.0 +1.7 −1.6 for vector-boson fusion production only
