Death is all phenomenon in which a cessation of life and, particularly, human life takes place. This study looks for arguments about death and the consequent process of mourning; some concepts referring to death are employed, aspects related to what is understood by biological and social death; as well as a revision through time of the handling of funeral rites, that somehow favors the acceptance of this for the people who confront this event. The stages passed through during the difficult process of mourning are studied. With the intention to understand death we found that in mourning, a set of mental representations and accompanied conducts provides elements that make the elaboration of this process effective.

The aim was to determine the characteristics of the therapeutic relationship established between nursing personnel and the parents of hospitalized newborns in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit, Central Hospital of San Cristóbal, Táchira, Venezuela. The study was descriptive, with cross-sectional design and a sample of 30 parents, to whom were given a 19 item questionnaire. The analysis and interpretation of the results were made based on descriptive statistic. In the communication dimension, the parents answered that the nursing personnel did not introduce themselves or say their names, nor did they call them by their names; or explain the treatment that their newborn received, what tests were made and the care that should be done once they were taken home. They reported that nursing personnel did not take time to talk to them. Nevertheless, they emphasized a high percentage of positive answers such as that nursing personnel greeted them in a friendly way when they arrived to visit their newborns, clarified doubts and fulfilled all the nursing cares that the newborn needed. In the emotional support dimension, it was determined that parents were cheered up by the nursing personnel and gave them faith and hope of the recovery for their children, were respectful of their social conditions, their beliefs and cultural customs and offered support when they were worried.

The aim of the present investigation was to determine cardiovascular risk factors, through the Framingham model, in the Infirmary Personnel in the surgical area of the Instituto Autónomo Hospital Universitario de Los Andes Merida-Venezuela. A descriptive, field, and cross section study was made, with a population of 43 nurses. The analysis and interpretation of the results were made by descriptive statistics. Test results and the laboratory analysis proved that since age was a non modifiable factor, most of them were in the young adulthood and mature adulthood periods with low cardiovascular risk. As regards modifiable factors, it was determined that more than half had Total Cholesterol at normal levels. In relation to HDL Cholesterol, according to laboratory tests the results showed a high percentage of low values such as <40 mg/dl, which translates as a possible increase of cardiovascular disease risk. As for smoking, more than half of the Infirmary Personnel declared not to have smoking habits. As for Arterial Pressure levels, it was determined that more than half of the professionals were within the normal parameters. When calculating the cardiovascular risk at 10 years, according to the Framingham Model, most of the nurses were located as “Very Low” and “Low” risk of suffering cardiovascular disease in 10 years. Nevertheless, 18.61% had a “Moderate” “High” and “Very High” risk of suffering cardiovascular diseases in the future, which requires proposing promotion and prevention activities aimed at improving the working and health conditions of the Infirmary Personnel and at diminishing cardiovascular risks that can affect their individual, family and community health.

The genomes of two key bumblebee species with primitive eusocial organization

Background: The shift from solitary to social behavior is one of the major evolutionary transitions. Primitively eusocial bumblebees are uniquely placed to illuminate the evolution of highly eusocial insect societies. Bumblebees are also invaluable natural and agricultural pollinators, and there is widespread concern over recent population declines in some species. High-quality genomic data will inform key aspects of bumblebee biology, including susceptibility to implicated population viability threats. Results: We report the high quality draft genome sequences of Bombus terrestris and Bombus impatiens, two ecologically dominant bumblebees and widely utilized study species. Comparing these new genomes to those of the highly eusocial honeybee Apis mellifera and other Hymenoptera, we identify deeply conserved similarities, as well as novelties key to the biology of these organisms. Some honeybee genome features thought to underpin advanced eusociality are also present in bumblebees, indicating an earlier evolution in the bee lineage. Xenobiotic detoxification and immune genes are similarly depauperate in bumblebees and honeybees, and multiple categories of genes linked to social organization, including development and behavior, show high conservation. Key differences identified include a bias in bumblebee chemoreception towards gustation from olfaction, and striking differences in microRNAs, potentially responsible for gene regulation underlying social and other traits. Conclusions: These two bumblebee genomes provide a foundation for post-genomic research on these key pollinators and insect societies. Overall, gene repertoires suggest that the route to advanced eusociality in bees was mediated by many small changes in many genes and processes, and not by notable expansion or depauperation

Identifying Selected Regions from Heterozygosity and Divergence Using a Light-Coverage Genomic Dataset from Two Human Populations

When a selective sweep occurs in the chromosomal region around a target gene in two populations that have recently separated, it produces three dramatic genomic consequences: 1) decreased multi-locus heterozygosity in the region; 2) elevated or diminished genetic divergence (FST) of multiple polymorphic variants adjacent to the selected locus between the divergent populations, due to the alternative fixation of alleles; and 3) a consequent regional increase in the variance of FST (S2FST) for the same clustered variants, due to the increased alternative fixation of alleles in the loci surrounding the selection target. In the first part of our study, to search for potential targets of directional selection, we developed and validated a resampling-based computational approach; we then scanned an array of 31 different-sized moving windows of SNP variants (5–65 SNPs) across the human genome in a set of European and African American population samples with 183,997 SNP loci after correcting for the recombination rate variation. The analysis revealed 180 regions of recent selection with very strong evidence in either population or both. In the second part of our study, we compared the newly discovered putative regions to those sites previously postulated in the literature, using methods based on inspecting patterns of linkage disequilibrium, population divergence and other methodologies. The newly found regions were cross-validated with those found in nine other studies that have searched for selection signals. Our study was replicated especially well in those regions confirmed by three or more studies. These validated regions were independently verified, using a combination of different methods and different databases in other studies, and should include fewer false positives. The main strength of our analysis method compared to others is that it does not require dense genotyping and therefore can be used with data from population-based genome SNP scans from smaller studies of humans or other species

Observation of associated near-side and away-side long-range correlations in √sNN=5.02  TeV proton-lead collisions with the ATLAS detector

Two-particle correlations in relative azimuthal angle (Δϕ) and pseudorapidity (Δη) are measured in √sNN=5.02  TeV p+Pb collisions using the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The measurements are performed using approximately 1  μb-1 of data as a function of transverse momentum (pT) and the transverse energy (ΣETPb) summed over 3.1<η<4.9 in the direction of the Pb beam. The correlation function, constructed from charged particles, exhibits a long-range (2<|Δη|<5) “near-side” (Δϕ∼0) correlation that grows rapidly with increasing ΣETPb. A long-range “away-side” (Δϕ∼π) correlation, obtained by subtracting the expected contributions from recoiling dijets and other sources estimated using events with small ΣETPb, is found to match the near-side correlation in magnitude, shape (in Δη and Δϕ) and ΣETPb dependence. The resultant Δϕ correlation is approximately symmetric about π/2, and is consistent with a dominant cos⁡2Δϕ modulation for all ΣETPb ranges and particle pT

This paper presents a measurement of the cross-section for high transverse momentum W and Z bosons produced in pp collisions and decaying to all-hadronic final states. The data used in the analysis were recorded by the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider at a centre-of-mass energy of √s = 7 TeV;{\rm Te}{\rm V}andcorrespondtoanintegratedluminosityof and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.6\;{\rm f}{{{\rm b}}^{-1}}.ThemeasurementisperformedbyreconstructingtheboostedWorZbosonsinsinglejets.ThereconstructedjetmassisusedtoidentifytheWandZbosons,andajetsubstructuremethodbasedonenergyclusterinformationinthejetcentreofmassframeisusedtosuppressthelargemultijetbackground.ThecrosssectionforeventswithahadronicallydecayingWorZboson,withtransversemomentum. The measurement is performed by reconstructing the boosted W or Z bosons in single jets. The reconstructed jet mass is used to identify the W and Z bosons, and a jet substructure method based on energy cluster information in the jet centre-of-mass frame is used to suppress the large multi-jet background. The cross-section for events with a hadronically decaying W or Z boson, with transverse momentum {{p}_{{\rm T}}}\gt 320\;{\rm Ge}{\rm V}andpseudorapidity and pseudorapidity |\eta |\lt 1.9,ismeasuredtobe, is measured to be {{\sigma }_{W+Z}}=8.5\pm 1.7$ pb and is compared to next-to-leading-order calculations. The selected events are further used to study jet grooming techniques

Search for the neutral Higgs bosons of the minimal supersymmetric standard model in pp collisions at root s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector

A search for neutral Higgs bosons of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) is reported. The analysis is based on a sample of proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The data were recorded in 2011 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb-1 to 4.8 fb-1. Higgs boson decays into oppositely-charged muon or τ lepton pairs are considered for final states requiring either the presence or absence of b-jets. No statistically significant excess over the expected background is observed and exclusion limits at the 95% confidence level are derived. The exclusion limits are for the production cross-section of a generic neutral Higgs boson, φ, as a function of the Higgs boson mass and for h/A/H production in the MSSM as a function of the parameters mA and tan β in the mhmax scenario for mA in the range of 90GeV to 500 GeV.
