    Responding to a Code Blue

    For this project, there was an identified lack of proficiency and confidence in running a code blue at local long-term care facility. A questionnaire was distributed to registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and nursing assistants in the facility to determine primary concerns related to initiating and running a code blue. In addition, code blue policies and procedures as well as current practices of the facility were reviewed. Combining data collected from the questionnaires, results from the policy/procedure review and review of evidence-based research, it was determined there is an importance and benefit to running a mock code to improve proficiency and confidence. The mock code took place during the regular workday and included registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and nursing assistants from both the day and evening shift. The group will compare participant data collected prior to and following the mock code blue experience to determine effectiveness of this experience on participant knowledge, confidence and proficiency in performing a code blue

    Smart linkification of content within applications

    When a user initiates text selection within an application, the operating system can examine text content displayed within the application to predict text selection bounds along with a possible destination application for the selected text. Until the user initiates selection, there may be no indication that a piece of text content might be actionable. Further, the functionality may not work as intended in cases where application developers implement a custom operation for the input mode utilized for passing the text content and associated action from one application to another. With user permission, this disclosure applies regular expression parsing and neural network processing to the text portion of the on-screen content to detect text entities that might be actionable by the OS or other applications on the device. After merging the actionable text entities identified via either of the two techniques, the corresponding text is presented, e.g., by underlining the corresponding text and linking it to invoke the corresponding action

    The Milky Way Nuclear Star Cluster

    In the center of the Milky Way, as well as in many other galaxies, a compact star cluster around a very massive black hole is observed. One of the possible explanations for the formation of such Nuclear Star Clusters is based on the 'merging' of globular clusters in the inner galactic potential well.     An extremely top-heavy initial mass function in the galactic center stellar disks

    Composite armors, having two or more different materials, contain a ceramic layer in the front face and a metallic or polymer matrix composite as support on the back side backing. The function of the ceramic layer is to erode and break up the projectile and to increase the contact surface of the metallic plate by forming a hard cone. The role of the metallic backing layer is to absorb the kinetic energy of the projectile and support the fragmented ceramic. The most impportant advantage of these materials over monolithic metallic armors is to reduce the thickness by using the ceramic layer in front of the metallic layer. This provides reducing the weight of armor. In this study, experiments have been conducted to describe ballistic performance of polymer matrix composites having different geometrical shapes. To do these experiments, aramid and polyethilen composite specimens were first fabricated as laminates in different geometrical shapes.     Evaluation of a novel immunoassay to detect p-Tau Thr127 in the CSF to distinguish Alzheimer disease from other dementias

    OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether p-tau T217 assay in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) can distinguish Alzheimer's disease from other dementias and healthy controls. METHODS: We developed and validated a novel Simoa immunoassay to detect p-tau T217 in CSF. There was a total of 190 participants from three cohorts with AD (n = 77) and other neurodegenerative diseases (n = 69) as well as healthy subjects (n = 44). RESULTS: The p-tau T217 assay (cut-off 242 pg/ml) identified AD subjects with accuracy of 90%, with 78% positive predictive value (PPV), 97% negative predictive value (NPV), 93% sensitivity, 88% specificity compared favorably with p-tau T181 ELISA (52 pg/ml) showing 78% accuracy, 58% PPV, 98% NPV, 71% specificity, 97% sensitivity. The assay distinguished AD patients from age-matched healthy subjects (cut-off 163 pg/ml, sensitivity 98%, specificity 93%) similarly to p-tau T181 ELISA (cut-off 60 pg/ml, 96% sensitivity and 86% specificity). In AD patients, we found a strong correlation between p-tau T217-tau and p-tau T181, t-tau and AÎČ40 but not with AÎČ42. CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrates that p-tau T217 displayed better diagnostic accuracy than p-tau T181. The data suggests that the new p-tau T217 assay has a potential as an AD diagnostic test in the clinical evaluation. CLASSIFICATION OF EVIDENCE: This study provides Class III evidence that a CSF immunoassay for p-tau T217 distinguishes AD from other dementias and healthy controls

    Shift in epitope dominance of IgM and IgG responses to Plasmodium falciparum MSP1 block 4

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p><it>Plasmodium falciparum </it>merozoite surface protein-1 (MSP1) has been extensively studied as a blood-stage malaria vaccine candidate, with most work focused on the conserved 19 kDa and semi-conserved 42 kDa C-terminal regions (blocks 16-17) and the hypervariable N-terminal repeat region (block 2). However, recent genotyping studies suggest that additional regions of MSP1 may be under selective pressure, including a locus of intragenic recombination designated as block 4 within the 3' region of the gene.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>The current study examined the antibody response to the two parental and two recombinant forms of block 4 and to blocks 16-17 (3D7) in study populations from Colombia, Papua New Guinea and Cameroon that differ in malaria transmission intensity and ethnic composition.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>IgM and IgG antibodies were detected against parental and recombinant MSP1 block 4 peptides in all three populations. Overall, 32-44% of the individuals produced IgM to one or more of the peptides, with most individuals having IgM antibodies reactive with both parental and recombinant forms. In contrast, IgG seropositivity to block 4 varied among populations (range 15-65%), with the majority of antibodies showing specificity for one or a pair of block 4 peptides. The IgG response to block 4 was significantly lower than that to blocks 16-17, indicating block 4 is subdominant. Antibodies to block 4 and blocks 16-17 displayed distinct IgG subclass biases, with block 4 responses biased toward IgG3 and blocks 16-17 toward IgG1. These patterns of responsiveness were consistently observed in the three study populations.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Production of antibodies specific for each parental and recombinant MSP1 block 4 allele in different populations exposed to <it>P. falciparum </it>is consistent with balancing selection of the MSP1 block 4 region by the immune response of individuals in areas of both low and high malaria transmission. MSP1 block 4 determinants may be important in isolate-specific immunity to <it>P. falciparum</it>.</p

    Standalone vertex ïŹnding in the ATLAS muon spectrometer

    A dedicated reconstruction algorithm to find decay vertices in the ATLAS muon spectrometer is presented. The algorithm searches the region just upstream of or inside the muon spectrometer volume for multi-particle vertices that originate from the decay of particles with long decay paths. The performance of the algorithm is evaluated using both a sample of simulated Higgs boson events, in which the Higgs boson decays to long-lived neutral particles that in turn decay to bbar b final states, and pp collision data at √s = 7 TeV collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC during 2011

    Measurements of Higgs boson production and couplings in diboson final states with the ATLAS detector at the LHC

    Measurements are presented of production properties and couplings of the recently discovered Higgs boson using the decays into boson pairs, H →γ Îł, H → Z Z∗ →4l and H →W W∗ →lÎœlÎœ. The results are based on the complete pp collision data sample recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider at centre-of-mass energies of √s = 7 TeV and √s = 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 25 fb−1. Evidence for Higgs boson production through vector-boson fusion is reported. Results of combined ïŹts probing Higgs boson couplings to fermions and bosons, as well as anomalous contributions to loop-induced production and decay modes, are presented. All measurements are consistent with expectations for the Standard Model Higgs boson

    Measurement of the top quark-pair production cross section with ATLAS in pp collisions at \sqrt{s}=7\TeV

    A measurement of the production cross-section for top quark pairs(\ttbar) in pppp collisions at \sqrt{s}=7 \TeV is presented using data recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events are selected in two different topologies: single lepton (electron ee or muon Ό\mu) with large missing transverse energy and at least four jets, and dilepton (eeee, ΌΌ\mu\mu or eΌe\mu) with large missing transverse energy and at least two jets. In a data sample of 2.9 pb-1, 37 candidate events are observed in the single-lepton topology and 9 events in the dilepton topology. The corresponding expected backgrounds from non-\ttbar Standard Model processes are estimated using data-driven methods and determined to be 12.2±3.912.2 \pm 3.9 events and 2.5±0.62.5 \pm 0.6 events, respectively. The kinematic properties of the selected events are consistent with SM \ttbar production. The inclusive top quark pair production cross-section is measured to be \sigmattbar=145 \pm 31 ^{+42}_{-27} pb where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.
