Clay mineralogy is very similar for all the samples and consists of kaolinite and 2: 1 phyllosilicates with small amounts of quartz and fe'ldspar. The percentage of carbonates is small, always less than 30 o/o. There should be pointed out the values found in the Eume reservoir core, with a clear antropic origino Texture and mineralogy are coherent with the geology of the basin they come from, excepting the carbonates and fine particle excess with cristaline caolinite in the Eume reservoir core. Size grain distribution is due to the dinamic characteristics of the ría, but there are important rnodifications related to the reservoir, that acts as a barrier, and the constructions in the lower part of the river that have changed the original circulation in sorne areas of the ría

Los depósitos más recientes contienen abundante filo silicato 1:1 dioctaédrico de bajo grado de orden y gibbsita, micas degradadas en cantidades variables y goethita.[Abstract] The igneous and metamorphic rocks that surround the Maceda depressian are subjected to a weathering of acidic hydrolysis type (kaol inite, gibbsite and Fe-oxihydroxides are the more repl'esenta"LJ.ve weathering products). The tertiary sediments have as principal component a 1:1 diocthaedral phyllosilicate (halloysite or kaolini te) associated wi th micas, degradated micas, goethita-:occasionally hematite and in the deepest layers, low charge vermiculites • - The newest deposits have disordered 1:1 diocthaedral phyllosilicate and gibbsite, changing proportions of degradated micas and goethit

Los resultados obtenidos permiten realizar una primera aproximación acerca de la «aptitud» de los suelos de cultivo como receptores de lodos residuales..[Abstract] The total contents of Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, Pb, Co and Mn in superficial horizons of soils that are developed on different geological materials of La Coruña region (Spain), reveal the importance of the lithologic factor with respect to the contribution of anthropic. origino The soils on ultramafic and mafic rocks show contents of Cr, Ni and Cu that are many times higher than threshold considered phytotoxic by different authors. These are followed by the schists, rich in biotite, while the lowest average values are obtained on granites and slates. The obtained results allow a first approach about the «attitude» of the cultivable soils as receptore of waste sludge

Effect of Stakeholders-Oriented Behavior on the Performance of Sustainable Business

This study focuses on stakeholder-oriented behavior, throughout organizational culture and organizational behavior, and its effects on the performance of sustainable organizations managed according to Corporative Social Responsibility (CSR) criteria. The investigation demonstrates that the sustainability efforts of a wide range of stakeholders exert various effects on business performance. This investigation tests two integrated conceptual models: (a) Stakeholder Orientation Model estimates the relationships among organizational culture components and their effects on stakeholder-oriented organizational behavior. That is, it estimates the influence of values on norms and artifacts, and their effects on stakeholder-oriented organizational behavior; (b) Performance model estimates the association between stakeholder-oriented organizational behavior and financial and market performance, reputation, and commitment. Using Structural Equation Modelling, both models were estimated from primary data collected from large- and medium-sized multi-sector Colombian companies involved in business sustainability practices. The findings reveal that values are antecedents of norms, but neither values nor norms are predictors of artifacts. Furthermore, norms and artifacts exert direct effects on stakeholder-oriented organizational behavior. In turn, stakeholder-oriented organizational behaviors are predictors of both market performance and commitment. Nevertheless, stakeholder-oriented organizational behaviors are not direct antecedents of both financial performance and reputation.S

Tsunami generation potential of a strike slip fault tip in the westernmost Mediterranean

Tsunamis are triggered by sudden seafloor displacements, and usually originate from seismic activity at faults. Nevertheless, strike-slip faults are usually disregarded as major triggers, as they are thought to be capable of generating only moderate seafloor deformation; accordingly, the tsunamigenic potential of the vertical throw at the tips of strike-slip faults is not thought to be significant. We found the active dextral NW–SE Averroes Fault in the central Alboran Sea (westernmost Mediterranean) has a historical vertical throw of up to 5.4 m at its northwestern tip corresponding to an earthquake of Mw 7.0. We modelled the tsunamigenic potential of this seafloor deformation by Tsunami-HySEA software using the Coulomb 3.3 code. Waves propagating on two main branches reach highly populated sectors of the Iberian coast with maximum arrival heights of 6 m within 21 and 35 min, which is too quick for current early-warning systems to operate successfully. These findings suggest that the tsunamigenic potential of strike-slip faults is more important than previously thought, and should be taken into account for the re-evaluation of tsunami early-warning systems.

Analyzing the tidal-related origin of subinertial flows through the Strait of Gibraltar

The effects of tidal dynamics on subinertial flows through the Strait of Gibraltar are analyzed. As found in previous studies, an empirical orthogonal function analysis of subinertial currents at the Camarinal Sill yields two dominant oscillation modes. The first mode presents a barotropic character and rather irregular fluctuations and it has been related to meteorological forcing. The second mode is baroclinic and presents a clear deterministic behavior with time that seems to be related to tidal forcing. Against the hypothesis proposed in previous studies stating that tidal mixing cycles explain the second mode, we show, by using a one-dimensional numerical model of two-layer immiscible shallow water, that the origin of this mode may basically be related to nonlinear interactions among the main semidiurnal tidal constituents through the advective terms in the momentum balance and other nonlinear terms in the volume conservation equations. That mode is also crucial to understanding the vertical shear time variations of the horizontal currents. In particular, it minimizes the differences in the maximum shear between neap and spring tides

Planck 2013 results. XXII. Constraints on inflation

We analyse the implications of the Planck data for cosmic inflation. The Planck nominal mission temperature anisotropy measurements, combined with the WMAP large-angle polarization, constrain the scalar spectral index to be ns = 0:9603 _ 0:0073, ruling out exact scale invariance at over 5_: Planck establishes an upper bound on the tensor-to-scalar ratio of r < 0:11 (95% CL). The Planck data thus shrink the space of allowed standard inflationary models, preferring potentials with V00 < 0. Exponential potential models, the simplest hybrid inflationary models, and monomial potential models of degree n _ 2 do not provide a good fit to the data. Planck does not find statistically significant running of the scalar spectral index, obtaining dns=dln k = 0:0134 _ 0:0090. We verify these conclusions through a numerical analysis, which makes no slowroll approximation, and carry out a Bayesian parameter estimation and model-selection analysis for a number of inflationary models including monomial, natural, and hilltop potentials. For each model, we present the Planck constraints on the parameters of the potential and explore several possibilities for the post-inflationary entropy generation epoch, thus obtaining nontrivial data-driven constraints. We also present a direct reconstruction of the observable range of the inflaton potential. Unless a quartic term is allowed in the potential, we find results consistent with second-order slow-roll predictions. We also investigate whether the primordial power spectrum contains any features. We find that models with a parameterized oscillatory feature improve the fit by __2 e_ _ 10; however, Bayesian evidence does not prefer these models. We constrain several single-field inflation models with generalized Lagrangians by combining power spectrum data with Planck bounds on fNL. Planck constrains with unprecedented accuracy the amplitude and possible correlation (with the adiabatic mode) of non-decaying isocurvature fluctuations. The fractional primordial contributions of cold dark matter (CDM) isocurvature modes of the types expected in the curvaton and axion scenarios have upper bounds of 0.25% and 3.9% (95% CL), respectively. In models with arbitrarily correlated CDM or neutrino isocurvature modes, an anticorrelated isocurvature component can improve the _2 e_ by approximately 4 as a result of slightly lowering the theoretical prediction for the ` <_ 40 multipoles relative to the higher multipoles. Nonetheless, the data are consistent with adiabatic initial conditions
