    Evaluación pre-post de una actividad formativa sobre alimentación y actividad física dirigida a estudiantes universitarios del campus de Melilla

    Chronic non-communicable diseases are produced by an unhealthy lifestyle, like a poor diet and not perform physical activity. The knowledge about the diet and the physical exercise of the university students of the sanitary and educative field is essential for the promotion of the health and the prevention of illnesses. The objective of the study was to know how an extracurricular training activity influences the students in the knowledge about the nutrition and the physical activity. Through a pre-post design the answers given to an ad hoc questionnaire are analyzed. The results show the increase in knowledge after the educational intervention, with nursing students achieving the best scores. The extracurricular training activities are an effective instrument to acquire and reinforce, in a positive and highly motivational way, the knowledge of university students thus allowing their work in the field of health education.Las enfermedades crónicas no transmisibles son producidas por un estilo de vida no saludable, como una mala alimentación y no realizar actividad física. El conocimiento sobre alimentación y ejercicio físico de los estudiantes universitarios del ámbito sanitario y educativo es imprescindible para la promoción de la salud y la prevención de enfermedades. El objetivo del estudio ha sido conocer cómo influye en los estudiantes una actividad formativa extracurricular en el conocimiento sobre alimentación y actividad física. Mediante un diseño pre-post se analizan las respuestas dadas a un cuestionario ad hoc. Los resultados evidencian el incremento del conocimiento tras la intervención educativa, siendo los alumnos de Enfermería los que alcanzan mejores puntuaciones. Las actividades formativas extracurriculares son un medio eficaz para adquirir y reforzar, de manera positiva y altamente motivacional, los conocimientos de los universitarios permitiendo así su labor en el ámbito de la educación para la salud

    Liderazgo Ético en la Innovación Educativa de una IES del Estado de México

    The research explores the impact of ethical leadership on educational innovation in a Higher Education Institution (HEI) in the State of Mexico. The adopted methodology is mixed, combining qualitative and quantitative approaches to obtain a holistic understanding of how ethical leadership influences the implementation of innovative practices. A bibliographic analysis was carried out to support the theoretical framework and surveys were applied to students, teachers, and institutional leaders to assess perceptions and practices related to ethical leadership and educational innovation. The main objective was to identify how ethical leadership impacts the adoption and success of educational innovation. The results obtained revealed that ethical leadership plays a crucial role in the acceptance and success of educational innovation. Participants noted that ethical leaders fostered a culture of openness and respect, which encouraged teachers and students to explore new practices without fear of negative consequences. In addition, it was found that HEIs with ethical leaders were more likely to implement innovative pedagogical technologies and methodologies that were aligned with the values ​​of the institution.La investigación explora el impacto del liderazgo ético en la innovación educativa en una Institución de Educación Superior (IES), en el Estado de México. La metodología adoptada es mixta combinó enfoques cualitativos y cuantitativos para obtener una comprensión holística de cómo el liderazgo ético influye en la implementación de prácticas innovadoras. Se realizó un análisis bibliográfico para fundamentar el marco teórico y se aplicaron encuestas a estudiantes, profesores y líderes institucionales para evaluar percepciones y prácticas relacionadas con el liderazgo ético y la innovación educativa. El objetivo principal fue identificar cómo el liderazgo ético impacta en la adopción y el éxito de la innovación educativa. Los resultados obtenidos revelaron que el liderazgo ético desempeña un papel crucial en la aceptación y el éxito de la innovación educativa. Los participantes destacaron que los líderes éticos fomentaron una cultura de apertura y respeto, lo que incentivó a los docentes y estudiantes a explorar nuevas prácticas sin temor a consecuencias negativas. Además, se encontró que las IES con líderes éticos eran más propensas a implementar tecnologías y metodologías pedagógicas innovadoras que se alinearon con los valores de la institución

    Hypothalamic tanycytes—masters and servants of metabolic, neuroendocrine, and neurogenic functions

    There is a resurgent interest in tanycytes, a radial glial-like cell population occupying the floor and ventro-lateral walls of the third ventricle (3V). Tanycytes reside in close proximity to hypothalamic neuronal nuclei that regulate appetite and energy expenditure, with a subset sending projections into these nuclei. Moreover, tanycytes are exposed to 3V cerebrospinal fluid and have privileged access to plasma metabolites and hormones, through fenestrated capillaries. Indeed, some tanycytes act as conduits for trafficking of these molecules into the brain parenchyma. Tanycytes can also act as neural stem/progenitor cells, supplying the postnatal and adult hypothalamus with new neurons. Collectively, these findings suggest that tanycytes regulate and integrate important trophic and metabolic processes and possibly endow functional malleability to neuronal circuits of the hypothalamus. Hence, manipulation of tanycyte biology could provide a valuable tool for modulating hypothalamic functions such as energy uptake and expenditure in order to tackle prevalent eating disorders such as obesity and anorexia

    This study was funded by the Fondo de Investigaciones Sanitarias FIS Grant Number PI11/0477 ISCIII.-REDISSEC Proyecto RD12/0001/0012 AND FEDER Funding.Background: Clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) have been developed with the aim of helping health professionals, patients, and caregivers make decisions about their health care, using the best available evidence. In many cases, incorporation of these recommendations into clinical practice also implies a need for changes in routine clinical practice. Using educational games as a strategy for implementing recommendations among health professionals has been demonstrated to be effective in some studies; however, evidence is still scarce. The primary objective of this study is to assess the effectiveness of a teaching strategy for the implementation of CPGs using educational games (e-learning EDUCAGUIA) to improve knowledge and skills related to clinical decision-making by residents in family medicine. The primary objective will be evaluated at 1 and 6months after the intervention. The secondary objectives are to identify barriers and facilitators for the use of guidelines by residents of family medicine and to describe the educational strategies used by Spanish teaching units of family and community medicine to encourage implementation of CPGs. Methods/design: We propose a multicenter clinical trial with randomized allocation by clusters of family and community medicine teaching units in Spain. The sample size will be 394 residents (197 in each group), with the teaching units as the randomization unit and the residents comprising the analysis unit. For the intervention, both groups will receive an initial 1-h session on clinical practice guideline use and the usual dissemination strategy by e-mail. The intervention group (e-learning EDUCAGUIA) strategy will consist of educational games with hypothetical clinical scenarios in a virtual environment. The primary outcome will be the score obtained by the residents on evaluation questionnaires for each clinical practice guideline. Other included variables will be the sociodemographic and training variables of the residents and the teaching unit characteristics. The statistical analysis will consist of a descriptive analysis of variables and a baseline comparison of both groups. For the primary outcome analysis, an average score comparison of hypothetical scenario questionnaires between the EDUCAGUIA intervention group and the control group will be performed at 1 and 6months post-intervention, using 95% confidence intervals. A linear multilevel regression will be used to adjust the model. Discussion: The identification of effective teaching strategies will facilitate the incorporation of available knowledge into clinical practice that could eventually improve patient outcomes. The inclusion of information technologies as teaching tools permits greater learning autonomy and allows deeper instructor participation in the monitoring and supervision of residents. The long-term impact of this strategy is unknown; however, because it is aimed at professionals undergoing training and it addresses prevalent health problems, a small effect can be of great relevance.     Measurement of the cross-section and charge asymmetry of WW bosons produced in proton-proton collisions at s=8\sqrt{s}=8 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    This paper presents measurements of the W+μ+νW^+ \rightarrow \mu^+\nu and WμνW^- \rightarrow \mu^-\nu cross-sections and the associated charge asymmetry as a function of the absolute pseudorapidity of the decay muon. The data were collected in proton--proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC and correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 20.2~\mbox{fb^{-1}}. The precision of the cross-section measurements varies between 0.8% to 1.5% as a function of the pseudorapidity, excluding the 1.9% uncertainty on the integrated luminosity. The charge asymmetry is measured with an uncertainty between 0.002 and 0.003. The results are compared with predictions based on next-to-next-to-leading-order calculations with various parton distribution functions and have the sensitivity to discriminate between them.Comment: 38 pages in total, author list starting page 22, 5 figures, 4 tables, submitted to EPJC.     Measurement of the t¯tZ and t¯tW cross sections in proton-proton collisions at √s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    A measurement of the associated production of a top-quark pair (t¯t) with a vector boson (W, Z) in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV is presented, using 36.1  fb−1 of integrated luminosity collected by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events are selected in channels with two same- or opposite-sign leptons (electrons or muons), three leptons or four leptons, and each channel is further divided into multiple regions to maximize the sensitivity of the measurement. The t¯tZ and t¯tW production cross sections are simultaneously measured using a combined fit to all regions. The best-fit values of the production cross sections are σt¯tZ=0.95±0.08stat±0.10syst pb and σt¯tW=0.87±0.13stat±0.14syst pb in agreement with the Standard Model predictions. The measurement of the t¯tZ cross section is used to set constraints on effective field theory operators which modify the t¯tZ vertex

    Searches for exclusive Higgs and Z boson decays into J/ψγ,ψ(2S)γ,and Υ(nS)γ at √s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    Searches for the exclusive decays of the Higgs and Z bosons into a J/ψ,ψ(2S), or Υ(nS)(n=1,2,3) meson and a photon are performed with a pp collision data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb −1 collected at √s =13 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. No significant excess of events is observed above the expected backgrounds, and 95% confidence-level upper limits on the branching fractions of the Higgs boson decays to J/ψγ, ψ(2S)γ,and Υ(nS)γ of 3.5×10 −4, 2.0×10−3,and(4.9,5.9,5.7)×10 −4,respectively, are obtained assuming Standard Model production. The corresponding 95% confidence-level upper limits for the branching fractions of the Z boson decays are 2.3×10 −6, 4.5×10 −6 and (2.8,1.7,4.8)×10 −6, respectively

    Search for heavy particles decaying into a top-quark pair in the fully hadronic final state in pp collisions at √s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    A search for new particles decaying into a pair of top quarks is performed using proton-proton collision data recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider at a center-of-mass energy of √s=13  TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.1  fb−1. Events consistent with top-quark pair production and the fully hadronic decay mode of the top quarks are selected by requiring multiple high transverse momentum jets including those containing b-hadrons. Two analysis techniques, exploiting dedicated top-quark pair reconstruction in different kinematic regimes, are used to optimize the search sensitivity to new hypothetical particles over a wide mass range. The invariant mass distribution of the two reconstructed top-quark candidates is examined for resonant production of new particles with various spins and decay widths. No significant deviation from the Standard Model prediction is observed and limits are set on the production cross-section times branching fraction for new hypothetical Z′ bosons, dark-matter mediators, Kaluza-Klein gravitons and Kaluza-Klein gluons. By comparing with the predicted production cross sections, the Z′ boson in the topcolor-assisted-technicolor model is excluded for masses up to 3.1–3.6 TeV, the dark-matter mediators in a simplified framework are excluded in the mass ranges from 0.8 to 0.9 TeV and from 2.0 to 2.2 TeV, and the Kaluza-Klein gluon is excluded for masses up to 3.4 TeV, depending on the decay widths of the particles

    Search for heavy charged long-lived particles in the ATLAS detector in 36.1 fb− 1 of proton-proton collision data at √s =13 TeV

    A search for heavy charged long-lived particles is performed using a data sample of 36.1 fb−1 of proton-proton collisions at √s =13 TeV collected by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The search is based on observables related to ionization energy loss and time of flight, which are sensitive to the velocity of heavy charged particles traveling significantly slower than the speed of light. Multiple search strategies for a wide range of lifetimes, corresponding to path lengths of a few meters, are defined as model independently as possible, by referencing several representative physics cases that yield long-lived particles within supersymmetric models, such as gluinos/squarks (R-hadrons), charginos and staus. No significant deviations from the expected Standard Model background are observed. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are provided on the production cross sections of long-lived R-hadrons as well as directly pair produced staus and charginos. These results translate into lower limits on the masses of long-lived gluino, sbottom and stop R-hadrons, as well as staus and charginos of 2000, 1250, 1340, 430, and 1090 GeV, respectively
