    Exploring the journey to services

Firms are increasingly providing services to complement their product offerings. The vast majority of studies on the service journey, also known as servitization or service transition, examine the challenges and enablers of the process of change through cases studies. Investigations that provide an in-depth longitudinal analysis of the steps involved in the service journey are much rarer. Such a detailed understanding is required in order to appreciate fully how firms can leverage the enablers while overcoming the challenges of servitization. This study investigates what does a service journey look like? It analyzes in some detail the actual service journeys undertaken by three firms in the well-being, engineering and learning sectors. The paper offers four contributions. First, in the change literature, there are two dominant theories: The punctuated equilibrium model and the continuous change model. This study demonstrates that servitization follows a continuous change rather than a punctuated equilibrium. It shows that such continuous change is neither logical nor structured but much more emergent and intuitive in nature. Second, the study provides empirical evidence to support a contingency view of the dominance and sequencing of the different process models of change across the change journey. Third, this research shows the pace of service development and when the coexistence of basic, intermediate and complex services occurs. Finally, it contributes to the literature in the service field by presenting three actual service journeys and the associated seven stages of the service strategy model that organizations should consider when managing their service journeys

Measurement of the mass difference m(D-s(+))-m(D+) at CDF II

We present a measurement of the mass difference m(D-s(+))-m(D+), where both the D-s(+) and D+ are reconstructed in the phipi(+) decay channel. This measurement uses 11.6 pb(-1) of data collected by CDF II using the new displaced-track trigger. The mass difference is found to be m(D-s(+))-m(D+)=99.41+/-0.38(stat)+/-0.21(syst) MeV/c(2)

Digital Servitization: The Next “Big Thing” in Manufacturing Industries

    No full text
Part 8: Designing and Delivering Smart Services in the Digital AgeInternational audienceManufacturing firms increasingly produce and provide services along with their traditional physical products. This process, better known as servitization, is a mature theme in the literature, flourishing in recent years. Digital disruption is propelling manufacturers to move on towards digital transformation and deliver digital services. Prior research investigated the impact of servitization measured by the traditional services. However, the role of digital technologies in manufacturing is neglected. This paper intends to shed light on the impact of digital service portfolio antecedents on firm performance. Our analysis used the Serbian dataset of 240 manufacturing firms from the European Manufacturing Survey conducted in 2018. The empirical results show that, in manufacturing firms, digital services can significantly increase the turnover ratio. Results indicate that management in manufacturing companies should utilize digital services such as Web-based services for customized product design and Web-based offers for product utilization to maximize firm’s turnover ratio and upgrade current service business model

Polimetilmetakrilāta (PMMA) čukstošo galeriju modu (ČGM) mikro sfēru rezonatori ir komerciāli pieejami ar tipiskajiem labuma (Q) faktoriem 10^3-10^4. Izmantojot attēlu apstrādes tehniku ar augstu izšķirtspēju (1.9µm/px), ir iespējams monitorēt absorbcijas spektru. Šajā darbā tika izstrādāta jauna veida attēlu apstrādes metode priekš ČGM mikro rezonatoriem, lai analizētu intensitātes sadalījumu atsevišķos (40-70µm) PMMA ČGM mikro rezonatoru reģionos mainot ārējos fizikālos apstākļus. Intensitātes izmaiņas var tikt izmantotas lai raksturotu augstāku kārtu modu mijiedarbību un integrētu sensoru sistēmā.Poly methyl methacrylate acrylic (PMMA) whispering gallery mode (WGM) micro sphere resonators are commercially available with typical optical quality factor of 10^3-10^4. Using image processing techniques, with (1.9µm/px) high resolution, the absorption spectrum could be monitored. In the present work a new type of image processing for WGM micro-resonators was developed, to analyze intensity distribution in separate regions for PMMA WGM micro-resonators (40-70 µm) by changing the external physical properties such as temperature and wavelength. The intensity changes can be used as a representation of higher order spacial mode groups and integrated into optical sensors
