Symbolism was initiated by Nima Yushij, a contemporary poet. Symbolism sought to express the social and political problems of its age. Many poets were affected by his movement and Safarzadeh was not an exception. Her poems are a reflection of her age, and as the socio-political circumstances were not right to express one’s ideas openly, she resorted to symbolism. Accordingly, the present research aims at analyzing the function of symbolism in Safarzadeh’s poetic style. The findings indicate that symbols are closely interwoven with her own religious, social, and political experiences. Colors, nature, and national and religious myths connote many other ideas and themes and thereby the audience faces a multilayer of meanings

INFRARED STUDY OF HYDROGEN CONCENTRATION IN BRAZILIAN QUARTZ

Infrared transmission spectroscopy is used to determine the amount of hydrogen in several kinds of Brazilian alpha-quartz. The experiments on the crystallographically oriented samples were used for the first time to verify the applicability of Paterson's formula (M. S. Paterson, Bull. Mineral. 105, 20, 1982) using the appropriate orientational factors for polarized and unpolarized radiations. The use of crystallographically oriented samples also allowed us to determine the average preferential direction of the OH dipoles which make an angle of 71-degrees with respect to the optic axis. The hydrogen concentration in the lst-quality layer of Brazilian quartz was found to be blow 70 ppm. (C) 1994 Academic Press, Inc.112240240
