Optical modeling of four Fresnel-based high-CPV units

The final version is available from Elsevier via the DOI in this recordHigh Concentrator Photovoltaic (HCPV) units are typically based on the use of Fresnel lenses, refractive secondary optical elements (SOE), and triple-junction (TJ) solar cells. In this work, a detailed optical modeling is applied to analyze the performance of four Fresnel-based HCPV units equipped with different refractive SOEs while considering the subcells current density generation. Wavelength-dependent material properties are utilized while simulating the optical performance. The spectral response of a typical TJ solar cell is also included. This modeling allows to establish the subcell current limitation and the spectral matching ratio, SMR, values in each case. The following SOEs have been used for simulating the HCPV units: (i) Dielectric-cross compound-parabolic-concentrator (DCCPC), (ii) (SIngle-Lens-Optical element) SILO-Pyramid, (iii) Refractive truncated pyramid (RTP) and, (iv) Trumpet. Results show that the HCPV units with SOEs RTP and Trumpet, exhibit bottom subcell current limitation and lowest optical polychromatic efficiency, this is partly due to the irradiance absorption in the bottom cell spectral region and longer optical path length of the concentrated rays within the SOE material. In the case of the HCPV unit with the DCCPC SOE, top and bottom subcells limit the current generation alternatively depending on the misalignment angle of the HCPV unit respect to the simulated sunrays. None of the SMR parameters are equal to 1 under normal alignment of the HCPV units. Design and characterization of refractive secondary optical elements for a point-focus Fresnel lens-based high CPV system

Available from AIP Publishing via the DOI in this record.Point-focus Fresnel lens-based High Concentrator Photovoltaic (HCPV) systems are usually equipped with refractive secondary optical elements (SOE) in order to improve their performance. Two basic SOE designs are optically modeled and simulated in this work: Domed-Kaleidoscope (D-K) with breaking-symmetry top and SILO (SIngle-Lens-Optical element). Wavelength-dependent optical material properties like refractive index and absorption coefficient, as well as the spectral response of a typical triple-junction (TJ) solar cell, are included in the ray tracing simulations. Moreover, using a CPV Solar Simulator "Helios 3198", both HCPV units are experimentally characterized. The acceptance angle characteristics of both HCPV units, obtained through optical simulations and through indoor characterization, are compared. The acceptance angle characteristic is better for the HCPV unit with the D-K SOE both in simulations and in experimental measurements, showing concordance between simulation and experiment. Rheumatoid arthritis response to treatment across IgG1 allotype - anti-TNF incompatibility: a case-only study.
INTRODUCTION: We have hypothesized that incompatibility between the G1m genotype of the patient and the G1m1 and G1m17 allotypes carried by infliximab (INX) and adalimumab (ADM) could decrease the efficacy of these anti-tumor necrosis factor (anti-TNF) antibodies in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
METHODS: The G1m genotypes were analyzed in three collections of patients with RA totaling 1037 subjects. The first, used for discovery, comprised 215 Spanish patients. The second and third were successively used for replication. They included 429 British and Greek patients and 393 Spanish and British patients, respectively. Two outcomes were considered: change in the Disease Activity Score in 28 joint (ÎDAS28) and the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) response criteria.
RESULTS: An association between less response to INX and incompatibility of the G1m1,17 allotype was found in the discovery collection at 6 months of treatment (P = 0.03). This association was confirmed in the replications (P = 0.02 and 0.08, respectively) leading to a global association (P = 0.001) that involved a mean difference in ÎDAS28 of 0.4 units between compatible and incompatible patients (2.3 ± 1.5 in compatible patients vs. 1.9 ± 1.5 in incompatible patients) and an increase in responders and decrease in non-responders according to the EULAR criteria (P = 0.03). A similar association was suggested for patients treated with ADM in the discovery collection, but it was not supported by replication.
CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that G1m1,17 allotypes are associated with response to INX and could aid improved therapeutic targeting in RA
Composition, potential emissions and agricultural value of pig slurry from Spanish commercial farms
[EN] Pig slurry is a valuable fertilizer for crop
production but at the same time its management may
pose environmental risks. Slurry samples were collected
from 77 commercial farms of four animal categories
(gestating and lactating sows, nursery piglets and
growing pigs) and analyzed for macronutrients,
micronutrients, heavy metals and volatile fatty acids.
Emissions of ammonia (NH3) and biochemical methane
potential (BMP) were quantified. Slurry electrical
conductivity, pH, dry matter content and ash content
were also determined. Data analysis included an
analysis of correlations among variables, the development
of predictionmodels for gaseousemissions and the
analysis of nutritional content of slurries for crop
production. Descriptive information is provided in this
work and shows a wide range of variability in all studied
variables. Animal category affected some physicochemical
parameters, probably as a consequence of
different slurry management and use of cleaning water.
Slurries from gestating sows and growing pigs tended to
be more concentrated in nutrients, whereas the slurry
from lactating sows and nursery piglets tended to be
more diluted. Relevant relationships were found among
slurry characteristics expressed in fresh basis and gas
emissions. Predictivemodels using on-farmmeasurable
parameterswere obtained forNH3 (R2 = 0.51) andCH4
(R2 = 0.76), which suggests that BMP may be estimated
in commercial farms from easily determined
slurry characteristics. Finally, slurry nutrient composition
was highly variable. Therefore, complete analyses
of slurries should be performed for an effective and

Combined measurement of differential and total cross sections in the HâŻââŻÎłÎł and the HâŻââŻZZ*âŻââŻ4â decay channels at s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector
A combined measurement of differential and inclusive total cross sections of Higgs boson production is performed using 36.1 fbâ1 of 13 TeV protonâproton collision data produced by the LHC and recorded by the ATLAS detector in 2015 and 2016. Cross sections are obtained from measured Hâγγ and HâZZ*(â4â event yields, which are combined taking into account detector efficiencies, resolution, acceptances and branching fractions. The total Higgs boson production cross section is measured to be 57.0â5.9 +6.0 (stat.) â3.3 +4.0 (syst.) pb, in agreement with the Standard Model prediction. Differential cross-section measurements are presented for the Higgs boson transverse momentum distribution, Higgs boson rapidity, number of jets produced together with the Higgs boson, and the transverse momentum of the leading jet. The results from the two decay channels are found to be compatible, and their combination agrees with the Standard Model predictions
Measurement of the tÂŻtZ and tÂŻtW cross sections in proton-proton collisions at âs=13âTeV with the ATLAS detector
A measurement of the associated production of a top-quark pair (tÂŻt) with a vector boson (W, Z) in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV is presented, using 36.1ââfbâ1 of integrated luminosity collected by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events are selected in channels with two same- or opposite-sign leptons (electrons or muons), three leptons or four leptons, and each channel is further divided into multiple regions to maximize the sensitivity of the measurement. The tÂŻtZ and tÂŻtW production cross sections are simultaneously measured using a combined fit to all regions. The best-fit values of the production cross sections are ÏtÂŻtZ=0.95±0.08stat±0.10systâpb and ÏtÂŻtW=0.87±0.13stat±0.14systâpb in agreement with the Standard Model predictions. The measurement of the tÂŻtZ cross section is used to set constraints on effective field theory operators which modify the tÂŻtZ vertex
Measurement of the ttÂŻttÂŻ production cross section in pp collisions at âs=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector
A measurement of four-top-quark production using proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fbâ1 is presented. Events are selected if they contain a single lepton (electron or muon) or an opposite-sign lepton pair, in association with multiple jets. The events are categorised according to the number of jets and how likely these are to contain b-hadrons. A multivariate technique is then used to discriminate between signal and background events. The measured four-top-quark production cross section is found to be 26+17â15 fb, with a corresponding observed (expected) significance of 1.9 (1.0) standard deviations over the background-only hypothesis. The result is combined with the previous measurement performed by the ATLAS Collaboration in the multilepton final state. The combined four-top-quark production cross section is measured to be 24+7â6 fb, with a corresponding observed (expected) signal significance of 4.7 (2.6) standard deviations over the background-only predictions. It is consistent within 2.0 standard deviations with the Standard Model expectation of 12.0 ± 2.4 fb
Combination of searches for heavy spin-1 resonances using 139 fbâ1 of proton-proton collision data at s = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector
A combination of searches for new heavy spin-1 resonances decaying into different pairings of W, Z, or Higgs bosons, as well as directly into leptons or quarks, is presented. The data sample used corresponds to 139 fbâ1 of proton-proton collisions at
= 13 TeV collected during 2015â2018 with the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. Analyses selecting quark pairs (qq, bb,
, and tb) or third-generation leptons (ÏÎœ and ÏÏ) are included in this kind of combination for the first time. A simplified model predicting a spin-1 heavy vector-boson triplet is used. Cross-section limits are set at the 95% confidence level and are compared with predictions for the benchmark model. These limits are also expressed in terms of constraints on couplings of the heavy vector-boson triplet to quarks, leptons, and the Higgs boson. The complementarity of the various analyses increases the sensitivity to new physics, and the resulting constraints are stronger than those from any individual analysis considered. The data exclude a heavy vector-boson triplet with mass below 5.8 TeV in a weakly coupled scenario, below 4.4 TeV in a strongly coupled scenario, and up to 1.5 TeV in the case of production via vector-boson fusion
Determination of the parton distribution functions of the proton using diverse ATLAS data from pp collisions at âs = 7, 8 and 13 TeV
This paper presents an analysis at next-to-next-to-leading order in the theory of quantum chromodynamics for the determination of a new set of proton parton distribution functions using diverse measurements in pp collisions at \sqrt{s} = 7, 8 and 13 TeV, performed by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, together with deep inelastic scattering data from ep collisions at the HERA collider. The ATLAS data sets considered are differential cross-section measurements of inclusive W^{±} and Z/gamma^{*} boson production, W^{±} and Z boson production in association with jets, t\bar{t} production, inclusive jet production and direct photon production. In the analysis, particular attention is paid to the correlation of systematic uncertainties within and between the various ATLAS data sets and to the impact of model, theoretical and parameterisation uncertainties. The resulting set of parton distribution functions is called ATLASpdf21
Measurement and interpretation of same-sign W boson pair production in association with two jets in pp collisions at s = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector
This paper presents the measurement of fducial and diferential cross sections for both the inclusive and electroweak production of a same-sign W-boson pair in association with two jets (W±W±jj) using 139 fbâ1 of proton-proton collision data recorded at a centre-of-mass energy of âs = 13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. The analysis is performed by selecting two same-charge leptons, electron or muon, and at least two jets with large invariant mass and a large rapidity diference. The measured fducial cross sections for electroweak and inclusive W±W±jj production are 2.92 ± 0.22 (stat.) ± 0.19 (syst.)fb and 3.38±0.22 (stat.)±0.19 (syst.)fb, respectively, in agreement with Standard Model predictions. The measurements are used to constrain anomalous quartic gauge couplings by extracting 95% confdence level intervals on dimension-8 operators. A search for doubly charged Higgs bosons H±± that are produced in vector-boson fusion processes and decay into a same-sign W boson pair is performed. The largest deviation from the Standard Model occurs for an H±± mass near 450 GeV, with a global signifcance of 2.5 standard deviations
