    A mathematical model of interleukin-6 dynamics during exercise

    Physical exercise is known to reduce the chronic inflammatory status that leads to Type 2 Diabetes. Its beneficial effects seem to be exerted trough a primary production of the cytokine Interleukin-6 (IL-6) which triggers a cascade of anti-inflammatory cytokines. Consequently, IL-6 has a central role in the description of the metabolic effects of exercise. The aim of this study was to develop a model of IL-6 dynamics during exercise. A model constituted by two non-linear differential equations is proposed. Since IL-6 production seems to be dependent not only on exercise duration but also on exercise intensity, input to the model is represented by heart rate, which is known to correlate well with exercise intensity. Model implementation in a Matlab-based parametric identification procedure allowed optimization of adjustable characteristic coefficients of IL-6 dynamics during exercise. From the reported results, it can be concluded that this model is a suitable tool to reproduce IL-6 time course during the execution of a physical exercise. This model was the first step of a project aimed at describing the complete immune system response to exercise and at giving a comprehensive sight of the effects that exercise has on the metabolic system

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat hubungan antara iklim organisasi denganperilaku inovasi karyawan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif denganmetode korelasional, melibatkan 36 orang karyawan yang bekerja di harian Tribun Medandan teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan nonrandom sampling yaitu conviniencesampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa iklim organisasi memiliki tiga kuadran yangberhubungan dengan perilaku inovasi yaitu kuadran human relation model, rational goalmodel dan open system model, sedangkan satu kuadran lainnya yaitu internal process modeltidak menunjukkan adanya pengaruh dengan perilaku inovasi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitianini dapat disimpulkan bahwa untuk meningkatkan perilaku inovasi karyawan di suatuperusahaan, maka pihak manajemen patut pula untuk memperhitungan iklim organisasi yangberkembang di Perusahaannya

    Actualmente el ingreso universitario constituye un tema importante en la gestión universitaria. Ya sea desde las áreas de ingreso de: las unidades académicas, la unidad central de la Universidad o la Secretaría de Políticas Universitarias dependiente del Ministerio de Educación, realizándose acciones conjuntas con el nivel de Educación Superior en cuanto a financiamiento de proyectos de articulación. Reconociendo que el diagnóstico de las debilidades de las instituciones educativas es el aislamiento en que desarrollan su tarea, debemos dotar a las gestiones de herramientas que transformen dicha debilidad en una fortaleza, posibilitando: encuentros, préstamos cognitivos y soluciones solidarias, generando acciones que favorezcan las enseñanzas en ese sentido. Además, la gestión universitaria tiene como propósito dotar al alumnado de herramientas para su eficaz desenvolvimiento en el campo profesional y científico, siendo condición necesaria que el aspirante reúna determinados requisitos mínimos de conocimientos y aptitudes que le permitan desenvolverse exitosamente. Este trabajo pretende identificar grupos de aspirantes con características comunes en cuanto a su desempeño en los exámenes de admisión, utilizando una técnica multivariante de análisis exploratorio, el análisis cluster, a fin de obtener una clasificación que resulte relevante para la adopción de políticas conducentes al mejoramiento de la calidad educativa

    Measurement of the cross-section and charge asymmetry of WW bosons produced in proton-proton collisions at s=8\sqrt{s}=8 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    This paper presents measurements of the W+μ+νW^+ \rightarrow \mu^+\nu and WμνW^- \rightarrow \mu^-\nu cross-sections and the associated charge asymmetry as a function of the absolute pseudorapidity of the decay muon. The data were collected in proton--proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC and correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 20.2~\mbox{fb^{-1}}. The precision of the cross-section measurements varies between 0.8% to 1.5% as a function of the pseudorapidity, excluding the 1.9% uncertainty on the integrated luminosity. The charge asymmetry is measured with an uncertainty between 0.002 and 0.003. The results are compared with predictions based on next-to-next-to-leading-order calculations with various parton distribution functions and have the sensitivity to discriminate between them.Comment: 38 pages in total, author list starting page 22, 5 figures, 4 tables, submitted to EPJC.     Long-range correlation and multifractality in Bach's Inventions pitches

    We show that it can be considered some of Bach pitches series as a stochastic process with scaling behavior. Using multifractal deterend fluctuation analysis (MF-DFA) method, frequency series of Bach pitches have been analyzed. In this view we find same second moment exponents (after double profiling) in ranges (1.7-1.8) in his works. Comparing MF-DFA results of original series to those for shuffled and surrogate series we can distinguish multifractality due to long-range correlations and a broad probability density function. Finally we determine the scaling exponents and singularity spectrum. We conclude fat tail has more effect in its multifractality nature than long-range correlations.Comment: 18 page, 6 figures, to appear in JSTA

    Search for squarks and gluinos with the ATLAS detector in final states with jets and missing transverse momentum using √s=8 TeV proton-proton collision data

    A search for squarks and gluinos in final states containing high-p T jets, missing transverse momentum and no electrons or muons is presented. The data were recorded in 2012 by the ATLAS experiment in s√=8 TeV proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider, with a total integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb−1. Results are interpreted in a variety of simplified and specific supersymmetry-breaking models assuming that R-parity is conserved and that the lightest neutralino is the lightest supersymmetric particle. An exclusion limit at the 95% confidence level on the mass of the gluino is set at 1330 GeV for a simplified model incorporating only a gluino and the lightest neutralino. For a simplified model involving the strong production of first- and second-generation squarks, squark masses below 850 GeV (440 GeV) are excluded for a massless lightest neutralino, assuming mass degenerate (single light-flavour) squarks. In mSUGRA/CMSSM models with tan β = 30, A 0 = −2m 0 and μ > 0, squarks and gluinos of equal mass are excluded for masses below 1700 GeV. Additional limits are set for non-universal Higgs mass models with gaugino mediation and for simplified models involving the pair production of gluinos, each decaying to a top squark and a top quark, with the top squark decaying to a charm quark and a neutralino. These limits extend the region of supersymmetric parameter space excluded by previous searches with the ATLAS detector

    CP asymmetry in BϕKSB \to \phi K_S in a general two-Higgs-doublet model with fourth-generation quarks

    We discuss the time-dependent CP asymmetry of decay BϕKSB \to \phi K_S in an extension of the Standard Model with both two Higgs doublets and additional fourth-generation quarks. We show that although the Standard Model with two-Higgs-doublet and the Standard model with fourth generation quarks alone are not likely to largely change the effective sin2β\sin 2 \beta from the decay of BϕKSB \to \phi K_S , the model with both additional Higgs doublet and fourth-generation quarks can easily account for the possible large negative value of sin2β\sin 2 \beta without conflicting with other experimental constraints. In this model, additional large CP violating effects may arise from the flavor changing Yukawa interactions between neutral Higgs bosons and the heavy fourth generation down type quark, which can modify the QCD penguin contributions. With the constraints obtained from bssˉsb \to s \bar{s} s processes such as BXsγB \to X_s \gamma and ΔmBs0\Delta m_{B_s^0}, this model can lead to the effective sin2β\sin 2 \beta to be as large as 0.4- 0.4 in the CP asymmetry of BϕKSB \to \phi K_S.Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures, references added, to appear in Eur.Phys.J.

    Prototype ATLAS IBL Modules using the FE-I4A Front-End Readout Chip

    The ATLAS Collaboration will upgrade its semiconductor pixel tracking detector with a new Insertable B-layer (IBL) between the existing pixel detector and the vacuum pipe of the Large Hadron Collider. The extreme operating conditions at this location have necessitated the development of new radiation hard pixel sensor technologies and a new front-end readout chip, called the FE-I4. Planar pixel sensors and 3D pixel sensors have been investigated to equip this new pixel layer, and prototype modules using the FE-I4A have been fabricated and characterized using 120 GeV pions at the CERN SPS and 4 GeV positrons at DESY, before and after module irradiation. Beam test results are presented, including charge collection efficiency, tracking efficiency and charge sharing.Comment: 45 pages, 30 figures, submitted to JINS

    Measurement of the production of a W boson in association with a charm quark in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    The production of a W boson in association with a single charm quark is studied using 4.6 fb−1 of pp collision data at s√ = 7 TeV collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. In events in which a W boson decays to an electron or muon, the charm quark is tagged either by its semileptonic decay to a muon or by the presence of a charmed meson. The integrated and differential cross sections as a function of the pseudorapidity of the lepton from the W-boson decay are measured. Results are compared to the predictions of next-to-leading-order QCD calculations obtained from various parton distribution function parameterisations. The ratio of the strange-to-down sea-quark distributions is determined to be 0.96+0.26−0.30 at Q 2 = 1.9 GeV2, which supports the hypothesis of an SU(3)-symmetric composition of the light-quark sea. Additionally, the cross-section ratio σ(W + +c¯¯)/σ(W − + c) is compared to the predictions obtained using parton distribution function parameterisations with different assumptions about the s−s¯¯¯ quark asymmetry

    Measurement of the top quark-pair production cross section with ATLAS in pp collisions at \sqrt{s}=7\TeV

    A measurement of the production cross-section for top quark pairs(\ttbar) in pppp collisions at \sqrt{s}=7 \TeV is presented using data recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events are selected in two different topologies: single lepton (electron ee or muon μ\mu) with large missing transverse energy and at least four jets, and dilepton (eeee, μμ\mu\mu or eμe\mu) with large missing transverse energy and at least two jets. In a data sample of 2.9 pb-1, 37 candidate events are observed in the single-lepton topology and 9 events in the dilepton topology. The corresponding expected backgrounds from non-\ttbar Standard Model processes are estimated using data-driven methods and determined to be 12.2±3.912.2 \pm 3.9 events and 2.5±0.62.5 \pm 0.6 events, respectively. The kinematic properties of the selected events are consistent with SM \ttbar production. The inclusive top quark pair production cross-section is measured to be \sigmattbar=145 \pm 31 ^{+42}_{-27} pb where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.
