RUNX3 Regulates Intercellular Adhesion Molecule 3 (ICAM-3) Expression during Macrophage Differentiation and Monocyte Extravasation
The adhesion molecule ICAM-3 belongs to the immunoglobulin gene superfamily and functions as a ligand for the β2 integrins LFA-1, Mac-1 and αdβ2. The expression of ICAM-3 is restricted to cells of the hematopoietic lineage. We present evidences that the ICAM-3 gene promoter exhibits a leukocyte-specific activity, as its activity is significantly higher in ICAM-3+ hematopoietic cell lines. The activity of the ICAM-3 gene promoter is dependent on the occupancy of RUNX cognate sequences both in vitro and in vivo, and whose integrity is required for RUNX responsiveness and for the cooperative actions of RUNX with transcription factors of the Ets and C/EBP families. Protein analysis revealed that ICAM-3 levels diminish upon monocyte-derived macrophage differentiation, monocyte transendothelial migration and dendritic cell maturation, changes that correlate with an increase in RUNX3. Importantly, disruption of RUNX-binding sites led to enhanced promoter activity, and small interfering RNA-mediated reduction of RUNX3 expression resulted in increased ICAM-3 mRNA levels. Altogether these results indicate that the ICAM-3 gene promoter is negatively regulated by RUNX transcription factors, which contribute to the leukocyte-restricted and the regulated expression of ICAM-3 during monocyte-to-macrophage differentiation and monocyte extravasation
Timing and severity of inhibitor development in recombinant versus plasma-derived factor VIII concentrates: a SIPPET analysis
Essentials Recombinant factor VIII (rFVIII) was contrasted with plasma-derived FVIII (pdFVIII). In previously untreated patients with hemophilia A, rFVIII led to more inhibitors than pdFVIII. Inhibitors with rFVIII developed earlier, and the peak rate was higher than with pdFVIII. Inhibitors with rFVIII were more severe (higher titre) than with pdFVIII. Summary: Background The development of neutralizing antibodies (inhibitors) against factor VIII (FVIII) is the most severe complication in the early phases of treatment of severe hemophilia A. Recently, a randomized trial, the Survey of Inhibitors in Plasma-Product Exposed Toddlers (SIPPET) demonstrated a 2-fold higher risk of inhibitor development in children treated with recombinant FVIII (rFVIII) products than with plasma-derived FVIII (pdFVIII) during the first 50 exposure days (EDs). Objective/Methods In this post-hoc SIPPET analysis we evaluated the rate of inhibitor incidence over time by every 5 EDs (from 0 to 50 EDs) in patients treated with different classes of FVIII product, made possible by a frequent testing regime. Results The highest rate of inhibitor development occurred in the first 10 EDs, with a large contrast between rFVIII and pdFVIII during the first 5 EDs: hazard ratio 3.14 (95% confidence interval [CI], 1.01\ue2\u80\u939.74) for all inhibitors and 4.19 (95% CI, 1.18\ue2\u80\u9314.8) for high-titer inhibitors. For patients treated with pdFVIII, the peak of inhibitor development occurred later (6\ue2\u80\u9310 EDs) and lasted for a shorter time. Conclusion These results emphasize the high immunologic vulnerability of patients during the earliest exposure to FVIII concentrates, with the strongest response to recombinant FVIII products

Overview of the DESI Legacy Imaging Surveys
The DESI Legacy Imaging Surveys (http://legacysurvey.org/) are a combination of three public projects (the Dark Energy Camera Legacy Survey, the Beijing–Arizona Sky Survey, and the Mayall z-band Legacy Survey) that will jointly image ≈14,000 deg2 of the extragalactic sky visible from the northern hemisphere in three optical bands (g, r, and z) using telescopes at the Kitt Peak National Observatory and the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory. The combined survey footprint is split into two contiguous areas by the Galactic plane. The optical imaging is conducted using a unique strategy of dynamically adjusting the exposure times and pointing selection during observing that results in a survey of nearly uniform depth. In addition to calibrated images, the project is delivering a catalog, constructed by using a probabilistic inference-based approach to estimate source shapes and brightnesses. The catalog includes photometry from the grz optical bands and from four mid-infrared bands (at 3.4, 4.6, 12, and 22 μm) observed by the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer satellite during its full operational lifetime. The project plans two public data releases each year. All the software used to generate the catalogs is also released with the data. This paper provides an overview of the Legacy Surveys project
Introduction: Epicondylalgia lateral skeletal muscle is a fairly common condition, characterized by the presence of pain, decreased grip strength and progressive loss of function of the hand. Objective: To summarize the evidence in Cochrane and non-Cochrane, looking at the effects and bene ts of acupuncture for the treatment of pain in patients who may be LE. Methods: A search was con- ducted in the specialized registry of the Cochrane musculoskeletal group (1980-September 2015) and databases: Medline (1980-September 2015), Pedro (1980-September 2015), Metasearcher Epistemonikos (1980-September 2015), gray literature, conference proceedings was sought. The methodological quality of systematic reviews was evaluated including amstar and the overall quality of the evidence using grade. Results: The search identified 92 preliminary systematic reviews, of which two met the eligibility criteria. 2 systematic reviews were categorized as high methodological quality. Conclusion: Despite the rarity of prescription and their application in subjects with lateral epicondylalgia, acupuncture has been proven effective in relieving pain in the short term. The present paper discusses the reproductive period and sexual maturity of a sample of sardine Sardina pilchardus (Walbaum, 1792) (N = 831) caught off the south-west coast of Gran Canaria (Canary Islands) from January 1995 to May 1996. The size range of the fish was 4.9-23.2 cm total length, and weight ranged from 0.8 to 101.5 g. Regarding sex ratio, there was no significant difference in the number of males and females. The reproductive period extended from November to March, with most gonadal activity in January-February. Mean total lengths at 50 % and 95 % of maturity were 15.0 cm and 17.8 cm, respectively, for males, and 15.2 cm and 18.4 cm for females.
Comparison of Oil Content and Fatty Acids Profile of Western Schley, Wichita, and Native Pecan Nuts Cultured in Chihuahua, Mexico
Two different extraction processes, Soxhlet and ultrasound, were used to obtain the oil extracts of Western Schley, Wichita, and Native pecan nuts cultured in Chihuahua, Mexico. The aspects evaluated in this study were the extraction yield of the processes and fatty acids’ profile of the resulting extracts. Gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was used to identify and determine the composition percentage of fatty acids present in pecan nuts oils extracted. The results obtained show that higher oil extraction yields were obtained by Soxhlet method with hexane (69.90%) in Wichita varieties. Wichita, Western Schley, and Native pecan nuts from Chihuahua are rich in PUFA (polyunsaturated fatty acids) and MUFA (monounsaturated fatty acids) and have low levels of SFA (saturated fatty acids). The predominant fatty acid present in all pecan nuts oils was linoleic acid followed by oleic acid. Myristic acid, palmitic acid, and linolenic acid were also identified in representative quantities. The results from this study suggest that there are statistically significant differences in the chemical composition of the pecan nuts oils extracted from the varieties cultured in Chihuahua, Mexico, and those cultivated in other regions of the world

The sub-acromial impingement (SAI) is the most common musculoskeletal disorder of shoulder pathologies. In recent times, the taping has become a relatively new and quite common indication in recent years. There will be a synthesis of evidence through a systematic review (SR) of randomized trials that had compared the use of taping for the management of these patients. The aim of this review is to determine the effect of taping on pain in subjects with sub-acromial pinch. The research strategy included randomized clinical trials (RCTs) databases were used: Medline, Cinahl, PEDro, Central, LILACS. In addition, we searched electronic journals, conference proceedings, randomized trials registry and contacted experts in the field. The results were two articles that met our eligibility criteria. We conclude that there is low quality evidence suggesting that the application of taping, would be effective to improve functionality and reduce pain at rest and during movements up to 1 week after application, in subjects with sub-acromial pinch compared to physical therapy program.
