Therefore, additional nematicides are required to control the nematode. The objective of this study was to screen for an effective nematicide. Fourth-stage juveniles and adults of H. diversa sampled from a lotus field were tested in in vitro solution experiments against 37 pesticides that are registered for the pest control of crops in Japan. Carbamate-based benfuracarb, organophosphate-based fenthion, nereistoxin-based cartap hydrochloride and cyanamide showed nematicidal effects against H. diversa. Benfuracarb at 1 μg/mL showed a nematostatic effect on H. diversa in an agar plate assay. Further, H. diversa treated with benfuracarb did not resume activity 7 days post nematicide treatment when transferred to distilled water. Benfuracarb was tested in micro-field experiments, in which H. diversa density and lotus tuber damage levels were monitored. Results showed that benfuracarb reduced H. diversa densities in the roots during the cultivation period in 2012 and consistently reduced damage levels during a five year study period.     Coordinated transcriptional regulation of bone homeostasis by Ebf1 and Zfp521 in both mesenchymal and hematopoietic lineages

    Bone homeostasis is maintained by the coupled actions of hematopoietic bone-resorbing osteoclasts (OCs) and mesenchymal bone-forming osteoblasts (OBs). Here we identify early B cell factor 1 (Ebf1) and the transcriptional coregulator Zfp521 as components of the machinery that regulates bone homeostasis through coordinated effects in both lineages. Deletion of Zfp521 in OBs led to impaired bone formation and increased OB-dependent osteoclastogenesis (OC-genesis), and deletion in hematopoietic cells revealed a strong cell-autonomous role for Zfp521 in OC progenitors. In adult mice, the effects of Zfp521 were largely caused by repression of Ebf1, and the bone phenotype of Zfp521+/− mice was rescued in Zfp521+/−:Ebf1+/− mice. Zfp521 interacted with Ebf1 and repressed its transcriptional activity. Accordingly, deletion of Zfp521 led to increased Ebf1 activity in OBs and OCs. In vivo, Ebf1 overexpression in OBs resulted in suppressed bone formation, similar to the phenotype seen after OB-targeted deletion of Zfp521. Conversely, Ebf1 deletion led to cell-autonomous defects in both OB-dependent and cell-intrinsic OC-genesis, a phenotype opposite to that of the Zfp521 knockout. Thus, we have identified the interplay between Zfp521 and Ebf1 as a novel rheostat for bone homeostasis

    OGLE-2005-BLG-071Lb, the Most Massive M-Dwarf Planetary Companion?

    We combine all available information to constrain the nature of OGLE-2005-BLG-071Lb, the second planet discovered by microlensing and the first in a high-magnification event. These include photometric and astrometric measurements from Hubble Space Telescope, as well as constraints from higher order effects extracted from the ground-based light curve, such as microlens parallax, planetary orbital motion and finite-source effects. Our primary analysis leads to the conclusion that the host of Jovian planet OGLE-2005-BLG-071Lb is an M dwarf in the foreground disk with mass M= 0.46 +/- 0.04 Msun, distance D_l = 3.3 +/- 0.4 kpc, and thick-disk kinematics v_LSR ~ 103 km/s. From the best-fit model, the planet has mass M_p = 3.8 +/- 0.4 M_Jup, lies at a projected separation r_perp = 3.6 +/- 0.2 AU from its host and so has an equilibrium temperature of T ~ 55 K, i.e., similar to Neptune. A degenerate model less favored by \Delta\chi^2 = 2.1 (or 2.2, depending on the sign of the impact parameter) gives similar planetary mass M_p = 3.4 +/- 0.4 M_Jup with a smaller projected separation, r_\perp = 2.1 +/- 0.1 AU, and higher equilibrium temperature T ~ 71 K. These results from the primary analysis suggest that OGLE-2005-BLG-071Lb is likely to be the most massive planet yet discovered that is hosted by an M dwarf. However, the formation of such high-mass planetary companions in the outer regions of M-dwarf planetary systems is predicted to be unlikely within the core-accretion scenario. There are a number of caveats to this primary analysis, which assumes (based on real but limited evidence) that the unlensed light coincident with the source is actually due to the lens, that is, the planetary host.     On the cosmic ray bound for models of extragalactic neutrino production

    We obtain the maximum diffuse neutrino intensity predicted by hadronic photoproduction models of the type which have been applied to the jets of active galactic nuclei or gamma ray bursts. For this, we compare the proton and gamma ray fluxes associated with hadronic photoproduction in extragalactic neutrino sources with the present experimental upper limit on cosmic ray protons and the extragalactic gamma ray background, employing a transport calculation of energetic protons traversing cosmic photon backgrounds. We take into account the effects of the photon spectral shape in the sources on the photoproduction process, cosmological source evolution, the optical depth for cosmic ray ejection, and discuss the possible effects of magnetic fields in the vicinity of the sources. For photohadronic neutrino sources which are optically thin to the emission of neutrons we find that the cosmic ray flux imposes a stronger bound than the extragalactic gamma ray background in the energy range between 10^5 GeV and 10^11 GeV, as previously noted by Waxman & Bahcall (1999). We also determine the maximum contribution from the jets of active galactic nuclei, using constraints set to their neutron opacity by gamma-ray observations. This present upper limit is consistent with the jets of active galactic nuclei producing the extragalactic gamma ray background hadronically, but we point out future observations in the GeV-to-TeV regime could lower this limit. We also briefly discuss the contribution of gamma ray bursts to ultra-high energy cosmic rays as it can be inferred from possible observations or limits on their correlated neutrino fluxes.Comment: 16 pages, includes 7 figures, using REVtex3.1, accepted for publication in Phys.Rev.D after minor revision

    1990年7月16日午後4時26分(現地時間)にフィリピン・ルソン島の中央部に発生したフィリピン地震(M= 7.8) は,内陸部に発生した最大級の地震であり,延長約120km,水平平均ずれ量約5.0mに及ぶ左横ずれ断層が出現した。震度地は,首都マニラの北北東約110kmのDigdig断層上で,震度の深さは約25kmとされている。本地震において,多数の建物が被災し約2000名の死者と3500名の負傷者が発生し,全壊建物約22000棟,被災者約160万人に及び被害が発生した。この地震による被害は,地震断層に沿った広範囲の地域に発生したが,被害が比較的集中的に発生した地域は,震央近傍の地域より,むしろ上記地震断層の北西方向の末端部の西側に位置している地域に多数の被害建物が認められた。また,Lingayen湾に面した沿岸地域の沖積軟弱地盤地帯においては,顕著な液状化現象が発生し,多数の構造物に被害が認められた。しかし,残念ながら本地震の被災地域における強震観測記録は得られていない。本研究の目的は,アンケートによる震度推定法を用いて本地震の震源域を中心とする広い範囲の地域における震度(MM震度)を可能な限り高密度に推定し,強震記録に代わる情報のひとつとして各地の地震動の強さとその分布状況を推定することである。また,被害地域といえども,ごく狭い地域でさえ被害程度に大きな差を生じることは過去の地震において確認され,今回の地震においてもまた同様の傾向がみられた。そこで,可能な限り高密度の震度分布を推定し,被害分布などともにいわゆるサイミックマイクロゾーニングマップを作成することを最終的な目的としている。本報告は,これまでに分析ができた各地の震度分布の結果を示したのである。その結果,調査地域内の主要都市の推定震度では, La Union 州のAgoo町が最も大きく平均震度(MM震度)で10.7となり,次いでAringay町で9.8,Baguio市で8.8となるO 以下,Dagupan市で8.7,Cabanatuan市で7.8,San Carlos市で7.7,首都Manilaの北側に隣接するQuezon市で6.5と推定された。また,各州や主要都市における震度分布も明かとなっている。本調査により,1990年フィリピン地震の震源域における震度分布がほぼ明かとなり,震度分布は被害分布とよく対応し,地震動の強さを推測する上で重要な情報を提供するものと考えられる

    A multi-decade record of high quality fCO2 data in version 3 of the Surface Ocean CO2 Atlas (SOCAT)

    The Surface Ocean CO2 Atlas (SOCAT) is a synthesis of quality-controlled fCO2 (fugacity of carbon dioxide) values for the global surface oceans and coastal seas with regular updates. Version 3 of SOCAT has 14.7 million fCO2 values from 3646 data sets covering the years 1957 to 2014. This latest version has an additional 4.6 million fCO2 values relative to version 2 and extends the record from 2011 to 2014. Version 3 also significantly increases the data availability for 2005 to 2013. SOCAT has an average of approximately 1.2 million surface water fCO2 values per year for the years 2006 to 2012. Quality and documentation of the data has improved. A new feature is the data set quality control (QC) flag of E for data from alternative sensors and platforms. The accuracy of surface water fCO2 has been defined for all data set QC flags. Automated range checking has been carried out for all data sets during their upload into SOCAT. The upgrade of the interactive Data Set Viewer (previously known as the Cruise Data Viewer) allows better interrogation of the SOCAT data collection and rapid creation of high-quality figures for scientific presentations. Automated data upload has been launched for version 4 and will enable more frequent SOCAT releases in the future. High-profile scientific applications of SOCAT include quantification of the ocean sink for atmospheric carbon dioxide and its long-term variation, detection of ocean acidification, as well as evaluation of coupled-climate and ocean-only biogeochemical models. Users of SOCAT data products are urged to acknowledge the contribution of data providers, as stated in the SOCAT Fair Data Use Statement. This ESSD (Earth System Science Data) “living data” publication documents the methods and data sets used for the assembly of this new version of the SOCAT data collection and compares these with those used for earlier versions of the data collection (Pfeil et al., 2013; Sabine et al., 2013; Bakker et al., 2014).     a b s t r a c t A series of 3-(phenoxy-phenyl-methyl)-pyrrolidine analogues were discovered to be potent and balanced norepinephrine (NE) and serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) reuptake inhibitors. Several of these compounds were identified to have suitable in vitro pharmacokinetic properties for an orally dosed and CNS-targeted drug. Compound 39b, in particular, was identified as a potent NET and SERT reuptake inhibitor (NSRI) with minimal off-target activity and demonstrated robust efficacy in the spinal nerve ligation model of pain behavior

    Measurement of the cross-section and charge asymmetry of WW bosons produced in proton-proton collisions at s=8\sqrt{s}=8 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    This paper presents measurements of the W+μ+νW^+ \rightarrow \mu^+\nu and WμνW^- \rightarrow \mu^-\nu cross-sections and the associated charge asymmetry as a function of the absolute pseudorapidity of the decay muon. The data were collected in proton--proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC and correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 20.2~\mbox{fb^{-1}}. The precision of the cross-section measurements varies between 0.8% to 1.5% as a function of the pseudorapidity, excluding the 1.9% uncertainty on the integrated luminosity. The charge asymmetry is measured with an uncertainty between 0.002 and 0.003. The results are compared with predictions based on next-to-next-to-leading-order calculations with various parton distribution functions and have the sensitivity to discriminate between them.Comment: 38 pages in total, author list starting page 22, 5 figures, 4 tables, submitted to EPJC.     Search for chargino-neutralino production with mass splittings near the electroweak scale in three-lepton final states in √s=13 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector

    A search for supersymmetry through the pair production of electroweakinos with mass splittings near the electroweak scale and decaying via on-shell W and Z bosons is presented for a three-lepton final state. The analyzed proton-proton collision data taken at a center-of-mass energy of √s=13  TeV were collected between 2015 and 2018 by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139  fb−1. A search, emulating the recursive jigsaw reconstruction technique with easily reproducible laboratory-frame variables, is performed. The two excesses observed in the 2015–2016 data recursive jigsaw analysis in the low-mass three-lepton phase space are reproduced. Results with the full data set are in agreement with the Standard Model expectations. They are interpreted to set exclusion limits at the 95% confidence level on simplified models of chargino-neutralino pair production for masses up to 345 GeV
