    Disruptive and Conventional Technologies for the Support of Logistics Processes: A Literature Review

    The supply chain has become a key element of increasing the productivity and competitiveness of companies. To achieve this, it is essential to implement a strategy based on the use of technologies, which depends on knowledge of the scope and impact of logistics technologies. Therefore, this article aims to identify the main technologies supporting logistics management and supply chain processes to establish their functionality, scope, and impacts. For this, conventional technologies and technologies framed by the concept of Industry 4.0 that allow the implementation of Logistics 4.0 in companies are analyzed. As a result of searching databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, and Science Direct, we provide an analysis of 18 technologies focusing on their definition, scope, and the logistics processes involved. This study concludes that technologies in logistics management allow for a reduction in total costs, improve collaboration with suppliers and customers, increase the visibility and traceability of products and information, and support decision-making for all agents in the supply chain, including the final consumer

    Nas minas da Panasqueira (Covilhã, Portugal) acumulam-se montes de resíduos (agregados) provenientes da extração de tungsténio sem qualquer aplicação. Este trabalho pretende contribuir para implementar um novo uso para estes resíduos integrando-os como revestimento refratário no processo de moldação a verde da fundição de metais não ferrosos. Os resultados mostram o potencial do uso destes resíduos da fundição de metais não ferrosos.Over the years, in the Panasqueira mines (Covilhã, Portugal) were accumulated mountains of stones (wastes) has a result of the tungsten extraction without any application. This research aims to assist in the implementation of these wastes, using it as refractory lining in foundry (green moulding process), particular in foundry of non-ferrous metals. Experimental methodology consisted in mineralogical characterization (XRF and XRD), as well as the evaluation of the permeability to water vapour, fundamental aspect to be considered in the materials which constitute the moulds with refractory properties for metal casting. Two compositions have been considered and subsequently assessed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), his behaviour as notferrous cast metal container, studying both the contact area and the contiguous zone of thermal diffusion.     Unravelling the 2D self-assembly of Fmoc-dipeptides at fluid interfaces

    Dipeptides self-assemble into supramolecular structures showing plenty of applications in the nanotechnology and biomedical fields. A set of Fmoc-dipeptides with different aminoacid sequences has been synthesized and their self-assembly at fluid interfaces has been assessed. The relevant molecular parameters for achieving an efficient 2D self-assembly process have been established. The selfassembled nanostructures of Fmoc-dipeptides displayed significant chirality and retained the chemical functionality of the aminoacids. The impact of the sequence on the final supramolecular structure has been evaluated in detail using in situ characterization techniques at air/water interfaces.     Seven-year mortality in heart failure patients with undiagnosed diabetes : an observational study

    Background: Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and heart failure have adverse clinical outcomes, but the characteristics and prognosis of those with undiagnosed diabetes in this setting has not been established. Methods: In total, 400 patients admitted consecutively with acute heart failure were grouped in three glycaemic categories: no diabetes, clinical diabetes (previously reported or with hypoglycaemic treatment) and undiagnosed diabetes. The latter was defined by the presence of at least two measurements of fasting plasma glycaemia ≥ 7 mmol/L before or after the acute episode.Group differences were tested by proportional hazards models in all-cause and cardiovascular mortality during a 7-year follow-up. Results: There were 188 (47%) patients without diabetes, 149 (37%) with clinical diabetes and 63 (16%) with undiagnosed diabetes. Patients with undiagnosed diabetes had a lower prevalence of hypertension, dyslipidaemia, peripheral vascular disease and previous myocardial infarction than those with clinical diabetes and similar to that of those without diabetes. The adjusted hazards ratios for 7-year total and cardiovascular mortality compared with the group of subjects without diabetes were 1.69 (95% CI: 1.17-2.46) and 2.45 (95% CI: 1.58-3.81) for those with undiagnosed diabetes, and 1.48 (95% CI: 1.10-1.99) and 2.01 (95% CI: 1.40-2.89) for those with clinical diabetes. Conclusions: Undiagnosed diabetes is common in patients requiring hospitalization for acute heart failure. Patients with undiagnosed diabetes, despite having a lower cardiovascular risk profile than those with clinical diabetes, show a similar increased mortality

    Efecto agudo de ejercicio isométrico sobre parámetros autonómicos en adultos sedentarios obesos y con sobrepeso

    Introduction: Obesity is understood as a chronic inflammation associated with complications in the autonomic nervous system dysfunction related to cardiovascular diseases. And isometric exercise, represented by manual grip strength, favors the reduction of cardiovascular risk and autonomic imbalance. Objective: to describe the acute response of an isometric exercise (IE) compared to the effect of an aerobic exercise (AE), analyzing the autonomic parameters of heart rate variability (LF/HF), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), systolic blood pressure (SBP) and heart rate (HR) in obese and overweight people. Methodology: 20 participants were randomly distributed into 2 groups; those who performed an aerobic exercise session on a cycle ergometer for 15 min at 50 watts (n=10) and those who performed an IE session at 30% of maximal strength (n=10). Both were evaluated pre and post intervention, the variables were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U statistical test with a significance level of p<0.05. Results: IE produced statistically significant changes in SBP (p= 0.001), LH/HF (p=0.02) and HR (p=0.018), while DBP improved, but not significantly. Conclusions: an EI session generates a greater decrease than EA in HRV, HR and SBP variables.Introducción: La obesidad es entendida como una inflamación crónica asociada a complicaciones en la disfunción del sistema nervioso autónomo relacionada con enfermedades cardiovasculares. Y el ejercicio isométrico, representado por la fuerza de prensión manual, favorece la reducción del riesgo cardiovascular y al desequilibrio autonómico. Objetivo: describir la respuesta aguda de un ejercicio isométrico (EI) comparándolo con el efecto de un ejercicio aeróbico (EA), analizando los parámetros autonómicos de variabilidad de la frecuencia cardiaca (LF/HF), presión arterial diastólica (PAD), sistólica (PAS) y la frecuencia cardiaca (FC) en personas obesos y en sobrepeso. Metodología: 20 participantes fueron distribuidos al azar en 2 grupos; los que realizaron una sesión de ejercicio aeróbico en cicloergómetro durante 15 min a 50 watts (n=10) y los que realizaron una sesión de EI al 30% de la fuerza máxima. Ambos fueron evaluados pre y post intervención, se analizaron las variables mediante la prueba estadística U de Mann-Whitney con un nivel de significancia p<0,05. Resultados: El EI produjo cambios estadísticamente significativos en PAS (p= 0,001), LH/HF (p = 0,02) y FC (p=0,01), mientras que la PAD mejoró, pero no de forma significativa. Conclusiones: una sesión de EI, genera una mayor disminución que el EA en las variables de VFC, FC y PAS

    Poor sleep quality decreases concurrent training benefits in markers of metabolic syndrome and quality of life of morbidly obese patients

    Indexación: Scopus.Background: Sleep quality (SQ) plays a role in multiple activities of daily living, but little is known about its role in concurrent training [CT, high-intensity interval (HIIT) plus resistance training (RT)] adaptations for metabolic syndrome (MetS) and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) markers. The aim of the present study was to determine the effects of a 20-week CT programme on MetS and HRQoL markers according to the SQ of morbidly obese patients. Methods: Twenty-nine morbidly obese patients were allocated to one of two groups: good sleep quality (GSQ, n = 15, 38.07 ± 12.26 years) and poor sleep quality (PSQ, n = 14, 40.79 ± 11.62 years). HRQoL, body mass index, waist circumference (WC), systolic and diastolic blood pressure (SBP and DBP, respectively), and plasma outcomes were measured. Results: The GSQ group reported significant changes (pre-vs. post-intervention) in WC (114.0 ± 3.1 vs. 110.4 ± 3.4 cm, p = 0.012), SBP (137.0 ± 4.3 vs. 125.6 ± 1.8 mmHg, p = 0.006), and HRQoL general health (51.33 ± 21.08 vs. 64.33 ± 16.24, p = 0.020). By contrast, the PSQ group showed significant changes only in SQ (9.00 ± 2.42 vs. 5.36 ± 2.84, p = 0.004). Conclusions: Morbidly obese PSQ patients showed a lower response for improving MetS and HRQoL markers after a 20-week CT programme than GSQ peers. However, there was a greater effect size for decreasing WC and SBP in favour of the GSQ compared with the PSQ group, suggesting that there are limitations to CT benefits on these outcomes in the PSQ group.     Search for squarks and gluinos in events with isolated leptons, jets and missing transverse momentum at s√=8 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    The results of a search for supersymmetry in final states containing at least one isolated lepton (electron or muon), jets and large missing transverse momentum with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider are reported. The search is based on proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy s√=8 TeV collected in 2012, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20 fb−1. No significant excess above the Standard Model expectation is observed. Limits are set on supersymmetric particle masses for various supersymmetric models. Depending on the model, the search excludes gluino masses up to 1.32 TeV and squark masses up to 840 GeV. Limits are also set on the parameters of a minimal universal extra dimension model, excluding a compactification radius of 1/R c = 950 GeV for a cut-off scale times radius (ΛR c) of approximately 30

    Measurements of fiducial and differential cross sections for Higgs boson production in the diphoton decay channel at s√=8 TeV with ATLAS

    Measurements of fiducial and differential cross sections are presented for Higgs boson production in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of s√=8 TeV. The analysis is performed in the H → γγ decay channel using 20.3 fb−1 of data recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The signal is extracted using a fit to the diphoton invariant mass spectrum assuming that the width of the resonance is much smaller than the experimental resolution. The signal yields are corrected for the effects of detector inefficiency and resolution. The pp → H → γγ fiducial cross section is measured to be 43.2 ±9.4(stat.) − 2.9 + 3.2 (syst.) ±1.2(lumi)fb for a Higgs boson of mass 125.4GeV decaying to two isolated photons that have transverse momentum greater than 35% and 25% of the diphoton invariant mass and each with absolute pseudorapidity less than 2.37. Four additional fiducial cross sections and two cross-section limits are presented in phase space regions that test the theoretical modelling of different Higgs boson production mechanisms, or are sensitive to physics beyond the Standard Model. Differential cross sections are also presented, as a function of variables related to the diphoton kinematics and the jet activity produced in the Higgs boson events. The observed spectra are statistically limited but broadly in line with the theoretical expectations

    Evidence for the Higgs-boson Yukawa coupling to tau leptons with the ATLAS detector

    Results of a search for H → τ τ decays are presented, based on the full set of proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC during 2011 and 2012. The data correspond to integrated luminosities of 4.5 fb−1 and 20.3 fb−1 at centre-of-mass energies of √s = 7 TeV and √s = 8 TeV respectively. All combinations of leptonic (τ → `νν¯ with ` = e, µ) and hadronic (τ → hadrons ν) tau decays are considered. An excess of events over the expected background from other Standard Model processes is found with an observed (expected) significance of 4.5 (3.4) standard deviations. This excess provides evidence for the direct coupling of the recently discovered Higgs boson to fermions. The measured signal strength, normalised to the Standard Model expectation, of µ = 1.43 +0.43 −0.37 is consistent with the predicted Yukawa coupling strength in the Standard Model
