Grain yield of maize hybrids at different plant densities

Get PDF
Field trials with 12 maize hybrids belonging to FAO maturity groups 500, 600 and 700 were established under the agro environmental conditions of Smederevo in 2010 and 2011 to analyse grain yield and moisture content at different plant densities. The hybrids were sown in two independent trials in the two years at 51,000 and 62,000 plants ha-1, respectively, in a randomised block design with three replications. More favourable maize growing conditions i.e. more moderate air temperatures during the growing season, a more even distribution of precipitation and more rainy days were recorded in 2010 than in 2011, which had much lower precipitation amounts, particularly during July and August i.e. critical development stages (flowering and fertilization) of these hybrids. Grain yield of all maize hybrids was higher in 2010, mostly as the result of greater amounts of precipitation and their more even distribution during the growing season. In both years, significantly higher grain yields were obtained by FAO 600 maize hybrids. Grain yield in 2010 was significantly higher at the higher plant density in FAO 500 hybrids, as opposed to FAO 600 hybrids, which showed no significant difference in grain yield across plant densities. Grain moisture content at harvest did not significantly differ between plant densities in either year. Somewhat higher values for grain moisture at harvest in 2010 were recorded for FAO 600 hybrids. In 2011, there were no significant differences in grain moisture content among hybrids, nor between plant densities, mostly due to the very low amount of precipitation in the second part of the growing season

Elevated temperatures and longer durations improve the efficacy of oxaliplatin- and mitomycin C-based hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy in a confirmed rat model for peritoneal metastasis of colorectal cancer origin

Introduction: In patients with limited peritoneal metastasis (PM) originating from colorectal cancer, cytoreductive surgery (CRS) followed by hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) is a potentially curative treatment option. This combined treatment modality using HIPEC with mitomycin C (MMC) for 90 minutes proved to be superior to systemic chemotherapy alone, but no benefit of adding HIPEC to CRS alone was shown using oxaliplatin-based HIPEC during 30 minutes. We investigated the impact of treatment temperature and duration as relevant HIPEC parameters for these two chemotherapeutic agents in representative preclinical models. The temperature- and duration- dependent efficacy for both oxaliplatin and MMC was evaluated in an in vitro setting and in a representative animal model. Methods: In 130 WAG/Rij rats, PM were established through i.p. injections of rat CC-531 colon carcinoma cells with a signature similar to the dominant treatment-resistant CMS4 type human colorectal PM. Tumor growth was monitored twice per week using ultrasound, and HIPEC was applied when most tumors were 4-6 mm. A semi-open four-inflow HIPEC setup was used to circulate oxaliplatin or MMC through the peritoneum for 30, 60 or 90 minutes with inflow temperatures of 38°C or 42°C to achieve temperatures in the peritoneum of 37°C or 41°C. Tumors, healthy tissue and blood were collected directly or 48 hours after treatment to assess the platinum uptake, level of apoptosis and proliferation and to determine the healthy tissue toxicity. Results: In vitro results show a temperature- and duration- dependent efficacy for both oxaliplatin and MMC in both CC-531 cells and organoids. Temperature distribution throughout the peritoneum of the rats was stable with normothermic and hyperthermic average temperatures in the peritoneum ranging from 36.95-37.63°C and 40.51-41.37°C, respectively. Treatments resulted in minimal body weight decrease (<10%) and only 7/130 rats did not reach the endpoint of 48 hours after treatment. Conclusions: Both elevated temperatures and longer treatment duration resulted in a higher platinum uptake, significantly increased apoptosis and lower proliferation in PM tumor lesions, without enhanced normal tissue toxicity. Our results demonstrated that oxaliplatin- and MMC-based HIPEC procedures are both temperature- and duration-dependent in an in vivo tumor model.</p

A qualitative analysis of a corpus of opinion summaries based on aspects

Get PDF
Aspect-based opinion summarization is the task of automatically generating a summary\ud for some aspects of a specific topic from a set of opinions. In most cases, to evaluate the quality of the automatic summaries, it is necessary to have a reference corpus of human\ud summaries to analyze how similar they are. The scarcity of corpora in that task has been a limiting factor for many research works. In this paper, we introduce OpiSums-PT, a corpus of extractive and abstractive summaries of opinions written in Brazilian Portuguese. We use this corpus to analyze how similar human summaries are and how people take into account the issues of aspect coverage and sentimento orientation to generate manual summaries. The results of these analyses show that human summaries are diversified and people generate summaries only for some aspects, keeping the overall sentiment orientation with little variation.Samsung Eletrônica da Amazônia Ltda

Measurement of the cross-section and charge asymmetry of WW bosons produced in proton-proton collisions at s=8\sqrt{s}=8 TeV with the ATLAS detector

This paper presents measurements of the W+μ+νW^+ \rightarrow \mu^+\nu and WμνW^- \rightarrow \mu^-\nu cross-sections and the associated charge asymmetry as a function of the absolute pseudorapidity of the decay muon. The data were collected in proton--proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC and correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 20.2~\mbox{fb^{-1}}. The precision of the cross-section measurements varies between 0.8% to 1.5% as a function of the pseudorapidity, excluding the 1.9% uncertainty on the integrated luminosity. The charge asymmetry is measured with an uncertainty between 0.002 and 0.003. The results are compared with predictions based on next-to-next-to-leading-order calculations with various parton distribution functions and have the sensitivity to discriminate between them.Comment: 38 pages in total, author list starting page 22, 5 figures, 4 tables, submitted to EPJC. Search for chargino-neutralino production with mass splittings near the electroweak scale in three-lepton final states in √s=13 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector

A search for supersymmetry through the pair production of electroweakinos with mass splittings near the electroweak scale and decaying via on-shell W and Z bosons is presented for a three-lepton final state. The analyzed proton-proton collision data taken at a center-of-mass energy of √s=13  TeV were collected between 2015 and 2018 by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139  fb−1. A search, emulating the recursive jigsaw reconstruction technique with easily reproducible laboratory-frame variables, is performed. The two excesses observed in the 2015–2016 data recursive jigsaw analysis in the low-mass three-lepton phase space are reproduced. Results with the full data set are in agreement with the Standard Model expectations. They are interpreted to set exclusion limits at the 95% confidence level on simplified models of chargino-neutralino pair production for masses up to 345 GeV

Search for direct stau production in events with two hadronic tau-leptons in root s=13 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector

A search for the direct production of the supersymmetric partners ofτ-leptons (staus) in final stateswith two hadronically decayingτ-leptons is presented. The analysis uses a dataset of pp collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of139fb−1, recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LargeHadron Collider at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. No significant deviation from the expected StandardModel background is observed. Limits are derived in scenarios of direct production of stau pairs with eachstau decaying into the stable lightest neutralino and oneτ-lepton in simplified models where the two staumass eigenstates are degenerate. Stau masses from 120 GeV to 390 GeV are excluded at 95% confidencelevel for a massless lightest neutralino

Search for new phenomena in final states with an energetic jet and large missing transverse momentum in pp collisions at √ s = 8 TeV with the ATLAS detector

Get PDF
Results of a search for new phenomena in final states with an energetic jet and large missing transverse momentum are reported. The search uses 20.3 fb−1 of √ s = 8 TeV data collected in 2012 with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Events are required to have at least one jet with pT > 120 GeV and no leptons. Nine signal regions are considered with increasing missing transverse momentum requirements between Emiss T > 150 GeV and Emiss T > 700 GeV. Good agreement is observed between the number of events in data and Standard Model expectations. The results are translated into exclusion limits on models with either large extra spatial dimensions, pair production of weakly interacting dark matter candidates, or production of very light gravitinos in a gauge-mediated supersymmetric model. In addition, limits on the production of an invisibly decaying Higgs-like boson leading to similar topologies in the final state are presente

The authors describe a novel three-dimensional, 252-lead electrocardiography (ECG) and computed tomography (CT)-based non-invasive cardiac imaging and mapping modality. This technique images potentials, electrograms and activation sequences (isochrones) on the epicardial surface of the heart. This tool has been investigated in the normal cardiac electrophysiology and various tachyarrhythmic, conduction and anomalous depo-repolarisation disorders. The clinical application of this system includes a wide range of electrical disorders like atrial arrhythmias (premature atrial beat, atrial tachycardia, atrial fibrillation), ventricular arrhythmias (premature ventricular beat, ventricular tachycardia) and ventricular pre-excitation (Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome). In addition, the system has been used in exploring abnormalities of the His-Purkinje conduction like the bundle branch block and intraventricular conduction disturbance and thereby useful in electrically treating the associated heart failure (cardiac resynchronisation). It has a potential role in furthering our understanding of abnormalities of ventricular action potential (depolarisation [Brugada syndrome and repolarisation], long QT and early repolarisation syndromes) and in evaluating the impact of drugs on His-Purkinje conduction and cardiac action potential
