Turner syndrome and associated problems in turkish children: A multicenter study
Objective: Turner syndrome (TS) is a chromosomal disorder caused by complete or partial X chromosome monosomy that manifests various clinical features depending on the karyotype and on the genetic background of affected girls. This study aimed to systematically investigate the key clinical features of TS in relationship to karyotype in a large pediatric Turkish patient population. Methods: Our retrospective study included 842 karyotype-proven TS patients aged 0-18 years who were evaluated in 35 different centers in Turkey in the years 2013-2014. Results: The most common karyotype was 45,X (50.7%), followed by 45,X/46,XX (10.8%), 46,X,i(Xq) (10.1%) and 45,X/46,X,i(Xq) (9.5%). Mean age at diagnosis was 10.2±4.4 years. The most common presenting complaints were short stature and delayed puberty. Among patients diagnosed before age one year, the ratio of karyotype 45,X was significantly higher than that of other karyotype groups. Cardiac defects (bicuspid aortic valve, coarctation of the aorta and aortic stenosi) were the most common congenital anomalies, occurring in 25% of the TS cases. This was followed by urinary system anomalies (horseshoe kidney, double collector duct system and renal rotation) detected in 16.3%. Hashimoto’s thyroiditis was found in 11.1% of patients, gastrointestinal abnormalities in 8.9%, ear nose and throat problems in 22.6%, dermatologic problems in 21.8% and osteoporosis in 15.3%. Learning difficulties and/or psychosocial problems were encountered in 39.1%. Insulin resistance and impaired fasting glucose were detected in 3.4% and 2.2%, respectively. Dyslipidemia prevalence was 11.4%. Conclusion: This comprehensive study systematically evaluated the largest group of karyotype-proven TS girls to date. The karyotype distribution, congenital anomaly and comorbidity profile closely parallel that from other countries and support the need for close medical surveillance of these complex patients throughout their lifespan. © Journal of Clinical Research in Pediatric Endocrinology
Data Descriptor : A European Multi Lake Survey dataset of environmental variables, phytoplankton pigments and cyanotoxins
Under ongoing climate change and increasing anthropogenic activity, which continuously challenge ecosystem resilience, an in-depth understanding of ecological processes is urgently needed. Lakes, as providers of numerous ecosystem services, face multiple stressors that threaten their functioning. Harmful cyanobacterial blooms are a persistent problem resulting from nutrient pollution and climate-change induced stressors, like poor transparency, increased water temperature and enhanced stratification. Consistency in data collection and analysis methods is necessary to achieve fully comparable datasets and for statistical validity, avoiding issues linked to disparate data sources. The European Multi Lake Survey (EMLS) in summer 2015 was an initiative among scientists from 27 countries to collect and analyse lake physical, chemical and biological variables in a fully standardized manner. This database includes in-situ lake variables along with nutrient, pigment and cyanotoxin data of 369 lakes in Europe, which were centrally analysed in dedicated laboratories. Publishing the EMLS methods and dataset might inspire similar initiatives to study across large geographic areas that will contribute to better understanding lake responses in a changing environment.Peer reviewe
Consumer ethnicity three decades after: a TCR agenda
Research into consumer ethnicity is a vital discipline that has substantially evolved in the past three decades. This conceptual article critically reviews its immense literature and examines the extent to which it has provided extensive contributions not only for the understanding of ethnicity in the marketplace but also for personal/collective well-being. We identify two gaps accounting for scant transformative contributions. First, today social transformations and conceptual sophistications require a revised vocabulary to provide adequate interpretive lenses. Second, extant work has mostly addressed the subjective level of ethnic identity projects but left untended the meso/macro forces affecting ethnicity (de)construction and personal/collective well-being. Our contribution stems from filling both gaps and providing a theory of ethnicity (de)construction that includes migrants as well as non-migrants
Data from an International Multi-Centre Study of Statistics and Mathematics Anxieties and Related Variables in University Students (the SMARVUS Dataset)
This large, international dataset contains survey responses from N = 12,570 students from 100 universities in 35 countries, collected in 21 languages. We measured anxieties (statistics, mathematics, test, trait, social interaction, performance, creativity, intolerance of uncertainty, and fear of negative evaluation), self-efficacy, persistence, and the cognitive reflection test, and collected demographics, previous mathematics grades, self-reported and official statistics grades, and statistics module details. Data reuse potential is broad, including testing links between anxieties and statistics/mathematics education factors, and examining instruments’ psychometric properties across different languages and contexts. Data and metadata are stored on the Open Science Framework website (https://osf.io/mhg94/).</p>

CYTOTOXIC EFFECTS OF TRIAZOLE FUNGUCIDES
Fungicides are at high risk exposure compounds both pre and post harvest time due to their usage during storage. Fungucides have various benefits on agricultural struggle. Apart from that, studies showed that fungucides also have mutagenic, carcinogenic, chronic toxic effects on nervous system, immune system, hormonal and reproductive system. Triazole group fungicides, prochloraz, tebuconazole, triadimenole and triadimefone, are commonly used in the world. In the study, it is aimed to emphasize about their importance on human and environmental health. And, we evaluated their potential cytotoxic effect on HeLa cells by using MTT and LDH tests. Before the tests application, the parameters like cell counts, incubation times, pesticide concentrations and test circumstances were examined for test optimization. As a result, for MTT cytotoxicity test IC50 values of prochloraz, tebuconazole, triadimefone and triadimenole were recorded in order as 0.4, >1, 0.24 and 0.37 mg/ml. As well for LDH test these values were identified in order as 0.065, 0.985, 0.052 and 0.042 mg/ml. MTT test, used to identify hazards on mitochondria' activity and respiratory chain, showed that cytotoxic effect of prochloraz, triadimefone and triadimenole was dose dependently increased. While tebuconazole showed cytotoxic effect on concentration range studied, it was seen that IC50 values for LDH test which is used to identify membrane damage were lower than IC50 values compared with MTT test. The obtained results would draw attention to expand researches on toxic effects of triazole fungicides which are identified as cytotoxic for human and environment health. Also, it is believed to take necessary precautions for usage of these compounds
Genetic characterization of heat tolerant tomato (Solanum lycopersicon) genotypes by SRAP and RAPD markers
We employed RAPD and sequence-related amplified polymorphism (SRAP) markers to evaluate polymorphisms in 15 tomato (Solanum lycopersicon) genotypes that were obtained from a tomato breeding program. Four local tomato genotypes selected from the Sanliurfa province (Southeastern Anatolia Region of Turkey), 10 heat-tolerant tomato genotypes, received from the Asian Vegetable Research and Development Center, and a sample of S. pimpinellifolium were genotyped with RAPD and SRAP markers. Eleven SRAP primer combinations were used and 66 bands were scored. The number of bands scored per primer combination ranged from three to 12, with a mean of six alleles per primer combination. All fragments scored for each primer combination were polymorphic. The percentage of polymorphic products ranged from 25 to 80%. The 15 tomato genotypes were screened for RAPD markers using 50 primers in a PCR-based DNA amplification procedure; 46 primers produced clear and good amplification. Ten of these 46 primers amplified monomorphic fragments in the tomato genotypes. A dendrogram was constructed by combining data from the RAPD and SRAP analyses. Similarity ratios of genotypes ranged from 0.87 to 0.99. The dendrogram was divided into two branches; the first main branch included only genotype CL 5915, and the second main branch included all the other genotypes
Ganglioglioma: A case report [Gangliogliom: Olgu sunumu]
Gangliogliomas are mixed neuronal-glial type tumors of the central nervous system (CNS). Gangliogliomas are rare tumors that present histological features and biological behavior of low-grade malignancy. Gangliogliomas account for about 0.5% of all CNS tumors, and they generally occur in childhood. Gangliogliomas make up about 8.0% of CNS tumors in children. These tumors are mostly localized in the supratentorial region and often present with seizures. Surgery is the first choice of treatment. We present a case of a 14-year-old male who presented with headache, with vomiting added recently. A left temporal mass was detected during investigations. The mass was totally resected surgically. The pathology was reported as ganglioglioma. The patient is being followed sufficiently in our clinic
