DergiPark: 645217trakyasobedThis study, which was made under the title of string instruments performance evaluation scale: translating into Turkish, was designed to be used in all string instruments for the purpose of measuring and evaluating stage performances such as exams, concerts and com-petitions. Importance of measurement and evaluation of performance outcomes in educa-tion; to evaluate the outputs of students who are trained by trainers from different schools/training methods and to prevent loss of points in grading. The rationale and expla-nations of the items of the scale are also valuable because they include voice/interpretation covering different schools. In this study, developed by Zdzinski and Barnes; it was based on the work that was created by adapting the performance evaluation criteria of Clarinet Performance Rating Scale, developed by Abeles (1973) and Tuba-Euphonium Performance Rating Scale developed by Bergee (1987). Interpretation/musical effect, articulation/tone, intonation, rhythm/tempo and vibrato, which consist of the main headings and total of twenty-eight subtitles and string instruments formed the performance measurement and evaluation criteria. In the study, it was aimed to adapt the 'Development and Verification of a String Performance Rating Scale' to Turkish by Zdzinski and Barnes (2002). Although it is known that there are technical and musical necessities for proper/competent performance in string instrument education, it is seen that the performance evaluations should be per-formed in a very detailed and meticulous manner. However, since the stringed instruments given in the art institutions such as the State Conservatories, Faculties of Fine Arts, Facul-ties of Art and Design, Faculties of Education included different schools/educational ap-proaches, the objective perspective of performance evaluation criteria could not be accredit-ed and left the evaluation of the performance representative of the education process open to comment. Although it is foreseen that the sub-items can be changed in accordance with the internal dynamics of each institution and without impairment the overall structure of the form, except for the main titles in the performance evaluation scale, the institutions that provide education in different disciplines (Turkish Folk Music, Turkish Art Music, Au-thentic/Ethnic Music) it is thought that may create. Çalışmada Zdzins-ki ve Barnes’in (2002) tarafından geliştirilen ‘Development and Validation of a String Per-formance Rating Scale’ ölçeğinin Türkçeye uyarlama çalışmasının yapılması amaçlanmıştır.

This study evaluated the colour parameters of composite and ceramic shade guides determined using a colorimeter and digital imaging method with illuminants at different colour temperatures. Two different resin composite shade guides, namely Charisma (Heraeus Kulzer) and Premise (Kerr Corporation), and two different ceramic shade guides, Vita Lumin Vacuum (VITA Zahnfabrik) and Noritake (Noritake Co.), were evaluated at three different colour temperatures (2,700K, 2,700-6,500K, and 6500K) of illuminants. Ten shade tabs were selected (A1, A2, A3, A3,5, A4, B1, B2, B3, C2 and C3) from each shade guide. CIE Lab values were obtained using digital imaging and a colorimeter (ShadeEye NCC Dental Chroma Meter, Shofu Inc.). The data were analysed using two-way ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation. While mean L* values of both composite and ceramic shade guides were not affected from the colour temperature, L* values obtained with the colorimeter showed significantly lower values than those of the digital imaging (p  0.05). For both composite and ceramic shade guides, L* and b* values obtained from colorimeter and digital imaging method presented a high level of correlation. High-level correlations were also acquired for a* values in all shade guides except for the Charisma composite shade guide. Digital imaging method could be an alternative for the colorimeters unless the proper object-camera distance, digital camera settings and suitable illumination conditions could be supplied. However, variations in shade guides, especially for composites, may affect the correlatio

Deep learning techniques bring together key advantages in biomedical image segmentation. They speed up the process, increase the reproducibility, and reduce the workload in segmentation and classification. Deep learning techniques can be used for analysing cell concentration, cell viability, as well as the size and form of each cell. In this study, we develop a deep learning model for automated segmentation of fluorescence cell images, and apply it to fluorescence images recorded with a home-built epi-fluorescence microscope. A deep neural network model based on U-Net architecture was built using a publicly available dataset of cell nuclei images [1]. A model accuracy of 97.3% was reached at the end of model training. Fluorescence cell images acquired with our home-built microscope were then segmented using the developed model. 141 of 151 cells in 5 images were successfully segmented, revealing a segmentation success rate of 93.4%. This deep learning model can be extended to the analysis of different cell types and cell viability

Discovery of a small molecule that selectively destabilizes Cryptochrome 1 and enhances life span in p53 knockout mice

Cryptochromes are negative transcriptional regulators of the circadian clock in mammals. It is not clear how reducing the level of endogenous CRY1 in mammals will affect circadian rhythm and the relation of such a decrease with apoptosis. Here, we discovered a molecule (M47) that destabilizes Cryptochrome 1 (CRY1) both in vitro and in vivo. The M47 selectively enhanced the degradation rate of CRY1 by increasing its ubiquitination and resulted in increasing the circadian period length of U2OS Bmal1-dLuc cells. In addition, subcellular fractionation studies from mice liver indicated that M47 increased degradation of the CRY1 in the nucleus. Furthermore, M47-mediated CRY1 reduction enhanced oxaliplatin-induced apoptosis in Ras-transformed p53 null fibroblast cells. Systemic repetitive administration of M47 increased the median lifespan of p53−/− mice by ~25%. Collectively our data suggest that M47 is a promising molecule to treat forms of cancer depending on the p53 mutation

    Operational Research in Education

Operational Research (OR) techniques have been applied, from the early stages of the discipline, to a wide variety of issues in education. At the government level, these include questions of what resources should be allocated to education as a whole and how these should be divided amongst the individual sectors of education and the institutions within the sectors. Another pertinent issue concerns the efficient operation of institutions, how to measure it, and whether resource allocation can be used to incentivise efficiency savings. Local governments, as well as being concerned with issues of resource allocation, may also need to make decisions regarding, for example, the creation and location of new institutions or closure of existing ones, as well as the day-to-day logistics of getting pupils to schools. Issues of concern for managers within schools and colleges include allocating the budgets, scheduling lessons and the assignment of students to courses. This survey provides an overview of the diverse problems faced by government, managers and consumers of education, and the OR techniques which have typically been applied in an effort to improve operations and provide solutions
